My alarms do this from time to time (like once or twice a year) too and I have no idea why. Maybe they’re programmed to test once in a while? Extremely loud as well, ain’t no way anyone is sleeping through these alarms.

Smoke alarm just went off and woke me up. Shit those things are loud. Ears are still ringing. Looked around, nothing. It did this a few months ago too, middle of the night. After I pressed the cancel button it did a couple of chirps. It’s not that old and the battery should be fine. Looked up the brand and there’s a bunch of 1 star reviews all complaining this alarm goes off randomly, often overnight. Have taken it off the ceiling. It’s going in the bin and I’ll be off to Bunnings this week for a new one. Not happy.

I heard smoke alarms only randomly go off at night because the cold makes everything contract and lowers the output of the battery if it’s already low. The alarm then thinks the battery is dying and goes off.
Same reason posters and suction cup soap holders in the shower only ever fall off at night time
