Going forward is sadly the only way we can time travel. I explained this to Stephen in a couple weeks.
Comment on it's just science
Shrubbery@piefed.social 1 day agoBeing able to time travel implies he could also jump forward in time (e.g. to check his posthumous reputation).

Yeah…a time traveller would be able to jump
forwardless backward in time to check that. But Stephen Hawking wasn’t a time traveller, he just wanted time travellers to visit him. And Stephen Hawking was the one seeking time travellers.

I want to jump over this time period to get a better time in future.

Well, all you need to do is travel at a significant fraction of the speed of light. That will let you fast-forward the rest of non-relativistic reality. Then it’s just a matter of slowing down again.
Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
But why does Stephen Hawking not being able to time travel mean time travel doesn’t exist?
corvi@piefed.social 1 day ago
Probably a reference to his “time travelers party”, a tongue-in-cheek way he used to suggest backwards time travel is impossible
agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
Maybe no one came to his party because they knew he was on the list
RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 18 hours ago
Or maybe the time travelers went back and faked his name onto the list as a prank.
Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
Ah right, so they would have given him the technology to do so i guess is what it’s implying
UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 23 hours ago
Why would they do that, they know he’s on the list.
