I absolutely despise the fact that people feel the need to change their names for jobs. When my dad rocked up to his first job, the manager said to him, “You’re not going to sell anything with a name like that.”
That was 40 years ago. He still goes by the name he was given by that manager with everyone except for family and close friends. I’ve never heard my mum call him by his name either. It’s only ever been “my husband” or “dad”. It’s like he’s been told to view his real name as an embarrassment, and I hate it.
Name changes when you move country is not just about negating possible racism.
There are language differences and abilities to pronounce a name.
It’s also about leaving behind the past and starting anew.
I feel it’s up to the individual and will respect what they choose.
It’s only his Real Name if he wants it to be. I changed mine because I loathed the thing my parents picked. Boyo has a legal he hates that I feel really weird using, alas paperwork requires declarations of all priors so there is no real escape.
