I felt like there could have been more exploration of the anarchistic commune and everyoneâs role within it but we donât get those kinds of stories

Quick spoiler free movie review:
28 Years Later is really a family drama interspersed with terrifying fights for survival. Although there are some jump scares, Itâs not so much a horror, but a thrilling and curious dreamlike adventure into the heart of darkness (with gorey bits of bone, flesh, and blood spattered about)
The tone is medieval and fairytale like, reminiscent of the movie âMenâ, (another Alex Garland project) or even David Loweryâs âThe Green Nightâ.
There is a folksy, cottage-core vibe here, interspersed with artistic camera flourishes and heart racing terror. Some very effective freeze-frame kill shot camera work add to memorable chase scenes. (Apparently quite a bit was shot on iPhone)
Various classes of zombie inhabit this world from fat, hippo-like slow crawling worm eaters to muscular 10 foot tall alpha males. All of the infected are suitably terrifying and deliver the goods.
The main actors played their parts dutifully with Ralph Fiennes being the most notable. He played a doctor and curious hermit covered in iodine. A kind and sympathetic man with the fortitude to live on his own, but, also deranged enough to spend years building a shrine to death itself.
The soundtrack is really cool and is used effectively throughout. Written by Scottish progressive hip hop group, Young Fathers. Itâs dreadfully creepy and sounds similar to The Haxan Cloak. I found myself playing in the car later in the day.
I do have some issues with plot and storyline but wonât go into here, as not to spoil story.
I brought MissGod with me and she rates it highly.

Thank you! Iâve seen some reviews that say it verges on a comedy at points. This confuses me. Will probably big screen it but am not in a rush. Love Days, have a hard time remembering Weeks đ

There are indeed some moments of levity causing the entire theatre to laugh out loud. Not quite âShaun of the Deadâ funny but more humanistic and relatable.

Thanks for the review, will have to check it out. Iâve realised we should probably watch the first one before seeing this one for a bit of context, too

Thatâs an interesting take on it. Very nice description actually.
I know nothing Bout the film other than being a zombie film but the way you described it was way off mark of what I originally thought it was going to be.
