Like, how did they not see this?
It’s about 50/50 between:
-
They don’t see anything wrong with the things he did.
-
They haven’t watched the show and have only heard that he’s disliked by “liberals”, so assume he’s great.
Comment on Antony Starr had to knock down 'The Boys' fans glorifying Homelander: 'This guy is not the hero'

I was actually really surprised during the last season, when conservatives all got their panties in a twist over the show, “going woke” all of a sudden.
It was like they didn’t realize Homelander was the bad guy up until then, despite him raping Butcher’s wife, melting his “mommy fetish” boss-lady’s face in, getting into a romantic relationship with a literal Nazi, and murdering an entire plane full of people.

I think you missed the third option: they are borderline illiterate, and are literally incapable of “reading into” anything beyond surface level “powerful man blows shit up with his eye lasers is so cool!” type takes is beyond their grasp.
There’s some truth to this but let’s not act like Homelander being the bad guy was fed to us through subtext.
He had an American flag cape. He’s obviously the good guy.
Wait, when did the murder an entire planet?
The conservative grifter accounts they mainline told them to be mad. They act mad like good little doggies. That’s about all there is to it.
The only abstract thinking they are allowed to train is making sense of trumps weird old man rambles.

That behavior sounds almost presidential.
