The community shouldn’t have been born, that’s for certain.

Is this a community that should exist?

Now that’s the sort of antinatalism I can get behind

It shouldn’t, not as an ideology nor as a community. Fucking creepy people lusting after the extinction of mankind.

Antinatalism goes back as far as ancient Greek philosophy, and not all avenues of thought conclude that life must cease altogether.
To entertain thoughts you disagree with is an admirable thing and a core pillar of philosophy.
I chose not to call for the closure of the community and instead volunteered as a mod because I value philosophy and discussion and nothing more.
What the admins do is up to them.

That’s a noble way to go, although i personally don’t think that just because some philosophy is old it also has merit.

That’s true however my primary concern is that the community is open, and likely to attract users as the antinatalism and related subreddits have been banned.
If it remains open it needs a mod to ensure that extremist rhetoric isn’t allowed to fester there.

I’m not antinatalist myself, and actively disagree with the premise but it isn’t a new philosophical concept, and isn’t an inherently violent philosophy.
If we shut down every community that had concerning elements or fringe extremists we likely wouldn’t have online spaces like Lemmy in the first place.
At least this way I can set clear rules against advocating for violence and put a clear stop to the more extremist efilism content from leaking in. Or admins can close it and we can be done with the matter.
