Would also depend on how captain dipshit responds. This could be interpreted as an act of aggression considering he and his cronies are itching for a reason to invade somewhere
Comment on How effective would sanctions on US by the international community be?
TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.ca 1 week ago
Depends on by whom and how long. The US produces a lot of things but also imports a lot of critical goods and materials as well.
If Canada, Mexico, China, and the EU & UK all banded together for sanctions or embargoes? The US economy would be pushing daisies pretty quick.
But the countries issuing those actions wouldn’t be in good shape either. Trade wars are a 2-way street.

All talk.
Been around plenty of disordered folks and he fits a very specific bill.
He’s chickenshit. Lotta threats but won’t follow through. His reputation is everything to him, but he will absolutely turn tail and run if he is challenged by a more powerful opponent. He will absolutely hold a grudge and try to get revenge in a “”“sneaky”“” way, but he’s still an absolute fucking idiot.

Ultimately I agree with you but if I’m a leader of say, Canada or somewhere in the EU I wouldn’t bank on it
For one I’ve also been around many “disordered folks” as you call them (outpatient therapist) and rhetoric can escalate. This is a common behavioral pattern called an extinction burst. You stop giving into his bullshit? That’s the most dangerous time of all. Even putting that aside there’s just the risk of him getting escalating amounts of unchecked power. Those threats might get cashed once he decides he wants to check and see if he can actually get away with it.
But that aside it’s not him as much as the entourage. There’s a group behind him and some of them are clearly looking to push him towards alienating the us from all their allies. He doesn’t work in a vacuum. He has a bunch of people saying “maybe you should do this”. He even has people saying “you have to do this, I gave you x million dollars”. Again, if I’m leading Canada this is what truly worries me. Trump may be a chickenshit but the warhawks behind him that want to sell a bunch of military gear and get contracts are frothing at the mouth for this kind of thing.

Absolutely. He’s a puppet.
But I firmly believe that a bully that faces no consequences will continue to escalate.
Cut off the US. Support the people’s protesting. Trust me when I say that there is more opposition than ever. Even in my ultra-conservative town, the flags have disappeared. It’s getting… interesting.

Anything is an act of aggression with them. The only tong you can do that they won’t call an act of aggression at this point is rolling over and giving them your country.
It’s abusive tactics 101, the only way to stop the abuse is to do the things they don’t want you to do.

Why would anyone bother with sanctions? Nothing a foreign government could do would be worse than what our own is doing.
Just wait it out and hope you manage to find a way to secure our nukes after everything disintegrates.

To encourage the revolt of the increasingly dissatisfied American public.
And for those who say “that’s not going to happen”, you do not speak for the rest of us. There is absolutely unrest. The news cycle does not reflect reality.
Pirky@lemmy.world 1 week ago
Can confirm about the unrest. My friend group is discussing these events daily. And a few of them are actually going out and protesting. I’m likely to join in this summer.
