There’s a nerve that goes down from the brain to the arch of the aorta, loops around below it, then goes right back up to innervate parts of the face iirc. In fish, it’s a straight path. And it has been a thing since the first land animals emerge, including in giraffes and other long-necked creatures.

I used this to finally shake a creationist friend. There’s a video on YouTube of finding this nerve in a giraffe cadaver.
