Here’s a quote from @Joeyowlhouse@lemmy.wtf for context:
You recently trolled about how Elon Musk’s Nazi salute “has been debunked though”
and then a selection of quotes from your reply, the one I responded to:
Debunked in the sense that, one, what the perception was did not match his intention, and two, a lot of the footage exaggerated his gesture anyways.
Something that’s worth noting (or which I don’t see a lot of people talking about) is the fact that the salute, historically, was done with your arm stretched out *in front of you*, not to the side
Musk’s salute in the picture, though technically arguable to be the salute (and it’s possible more to his intentions might come to light), was more like [the Team Rocket pose.]
You’ve claimed to know what his intention was, that the Nazi salute was done differently to the clip of Hitler himself, even though the video shows that they’re almost identical, and then that Musk’s salute was an innocent mistake.
They sound an awful lot like excuses for a guy who was caught on camera performing a salute that’s all but identical to a Nazi salute that Hitler, leader of the Nazis, performed on video.

- Comment on Why do so many UK electrical sockets have an on/off switch next to them? 3 weeks ago:
Do you have individual switches for each plug socket / outlet wired next to the door? That seems like it would take a lot of wiring, and need a lot of switches.
The room I’m currently in has six double sockets spread out around the room. They each have one switch per socket like in the post’s image. If they were wired back to the door, they would need a lot more wiring, and one of the two entrance doors would have to be chosen. You’d then have to walk to that door every time you wanted to turn something off.
It seems like a lot more work for no real benefit.

I’ll go down in history, either for the best April Fools joke ever, or if my aim is off, the best Halloween prank ever 🐟🐠🐟😁

I’ve just checked the boxes, and Minecraft, Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and Mario Kart Deluxe 8 all support one player on the Switch Lite, up to four through the TV, and up to four on the non lite Switch 👍
- Comment on How many Nintendo Switches do I need for a family of gamers? 3 months ago:
This is excellent advice 🙂
The only part I might disagree with is this:
Get Switch Lites for anyone who REALLY needs to be playing something else independently when the TV/“main” Switch is in use
Obviously only if the budget allows, but if your kids are at the age where they’ll take their Switch when they visit friends or family, then the version with detachable controllers is probably better.
The Switch has a built in kick stand, and some games, like Mario Kart, let you disconnect the controllers and have one each for a two player game. It’s handy for keeping the kids quiet for a bit, and you don’t need to carry loads of stuff.
If the kids regularly go somewhere, like your parents perhaps, you can buy an extra dock to plug into the TV there, and the non lite Switch can use it in exactly the same way as the one at home. There’s nothing special about the dock, it essentially just connects the Switch to the TV.
It’s a great little console with some fun, if sometimes expensive games. I play mine probably as much as my kid plays theirs 🙂

Nope. It does it with random videos every now and then, and with no obvious pattern. It’s not lasting for a set amount of time either, so it’s not like something’s running in the background and slowing it down for a while.
In the past I’ve shut down everything I can think of on the server to stop something from taking priority, but it still happens. On those occasions it’s happened for half an hour or more, but other times it might last for a few minutes, or just affect one episode.

I just checked the episode through Plex, and it’s direct playing. I didn’t get any stuttering while I was skipping around though. I think it’s Plex itself, either the server or the player.
My physical server is a bit old now, it’s a Haswell i5, so if this was an ultra HD bluray rip I could understand it, but it’s been playing HD and 4k videos without issues for years now.

I’ve checked the file. It’s a bog standard h264 mkv and the video bitrate is only 10Mbps. There’s nothing that the fire stick shouldn’t be able to handle on its own. I’ll try playing it on the fire stick again and see if it’s trying to do something weird, but I can’t see it being that.

Nothing unusual about it, and it plays perfectly on my PC. I’ve tried randomly skipping backwards and forwards, but still no issues. It’s a bog standard h264 mkv file too, so nothing that would need to be transcoded

Oh, definitely! I had major issues with the networking in my old house, and just couldn’t narrow it down. I eventually figured out that it was a network switch, but when I tested them, all three had intermittent faults. I could plug my laptop into a port on one and have it lose connection, but plugging something else in would work. Plugging my laptop into a different switch with the same cable would work, but a few hours later would fail. That was a nightmare to track down.

That’s a good point. I’ll check the file and see if there’s anything unusual compared to the others 🙂

If I was having problems with anything else, I would blame the fire stick. It’s cheaply made Amazon crap that’s designed to fail. I regularly stream to it from other sources though, and don’t get any issues. In this case, I skipped back once, so ten seconds, and that was too much for Plex to handle 🤷🏻♂️
- Comment on It's just taken me 55 minutes to watch a 35 minute episode on Plex because of crashes 3 months ago:
I just watched an episode of a different show, and while it didn’t completely crash, it still stuttered and paused randomly.
I know it’s not the server itself, as it’s handling more intense tasks regularly with no issues, and the network works on every other device too. I stream higher quality with higher bit rates to the fire stick regularly too, with no issues.

I’m tempted to get a different box for the TV, but everything else runs perfectly. I’ve been looking into switching to Jellyfin too, but I’ve been trying out Stremio for a little while, and it works much better than Plex. It’s missing a few features like easy user switching, and it can’t organise and play my family videos as far as I know, but it would mean not having to store loads of media.

I’ve been holding off switching to Jellyfin for a while because I paid for a Plex pass, but I’m getting to the point where that’s not going to stop me from swapping.
