My last phone was an iPhone 7 and I bought a case so I could use wireless charging on it. That was great and made it so I didn’t wear out the lightning connector on it.
Having something similar for usb c makes sense.

I have an old Mac mini that I installed Ubuntu on to work as a digital frame. It works great and runs its own file server so it is easy to add pictures to.

Dark City is my favorite flop movie.
- Comment on What’s your favorite “flop” of all time? 3 months ago:
It felt to me that the studios told the directors that they were going to reboot the franchise if they didn’t make a new one, so the writers decided to just make that the plot.

I love to say “before the turn of the century” when referring to stuff like 1997.
- Comment on Marge Sort 5 months ago:
It doesn’t matter. You check the first of each group and pick the smallest, then compare the one you didn’t pick with the next one of the other group. In your example, you would pick all of the ones from the right side and once it is empty, just add all the ones on the left.
- Comment on Marge Sort 5 months ago:
When you merge two sorted lists, you only have to compare the first element of each, since you can trust that all of the other elements are bigger. All the steps before that are there to make sure that is true.
- Comment on Gemini wont talk about Bernie Sanders 5 months ago:
To be honest, that seems like it should be the one thing they are reliably good at. It requires just looking up info on their database, with no manipulation.
That’s not how they are designed at all. LLMs are just text predictors. If the user inputs something like “A B C D E F” then the next most likely word would be “G”.
Companies like OpenAI will try to add context to make things seem smarter, like prime it with the current date so it won’t just respond with some date it was trained on, or look for info on specific people or whatnot, but at its core, they are just really big auto fill text predictors.
- Comment on Every "non-smoking" section in a restaurant 5 months ago:
I live in the states and haven’t seen a smoking section of a restaurant or bar since around the turn of the century. There are ones which have smoking tables outside too close to the door, which sucks.
It’s funny watching old movies like Airplane where he was buying a plane ticket and she asked “smoking or non-smoking” and you remember that people used to smoke while trapped in an airplane.
- Comment on I’m Tired of Pretending Physical Media Isn’t Still Better Than Streaming Digital 6 months ago:
This is why I purchase physical media and then rip them, with all the extras, to my Jellyfin server. Best of both worlds.
I get to vote with my wallet on what I like and I don’t have to worry about my shows disappearing on me when I want to watch them again.

I have a good size collection that I have ripped for use on Jellyfin. I make sure to gram the extras and sort them where they belong.
I remember setting the metadata for the Thermian language track for Galaxy Quest.

I think a lot of people assume they know what classic trek is about without even watching it. Hence the surprise when they realize that it’s “woke”.

I remember the trailer for “Cuffs” made it look like a buddy cop comedy that will be full of hilarious jokes. Went to see the movie and the jokes in the trailer were all the jokes in the movie. The rest was dark and depressing and I felt cheated after that.

- Comment on the flies 9 months ago:
I haven’t read the study, but most of these would need a placebo group, so divide the herd into thirds, one with no paint, one with stripes, and one fully painted white to get a baseline for each group. Also would be good to randomize which group each cow goes in each day so to rule out one cow who is especially tasty to flies.

The first thing we need to do to fix healthcare in this country is to decouple health insurance from our jobs. If you lose your job you should not lose your health benefits. And no, cobra is not a substitute.

I would add scooping dog shit is another test. There are people out there who will bag the shit and then leave the bag on the ground for the poop to steam in for a few days before they put another bag right next to it to keep it company.

These are part of their own family of invertebrates.

Insects are a specific family that have 6 legs. So a bee or an ant are insects but a spider or a rolls polly is not.

That is a problem and I don’t have a solution for. It is tricky balancing free press and letting the rich just say whatever the fuck they want, but none of this is a new problem and I do believe that we can find a way to figure it out.
