Glad to hear you managed to get away from that situation, and thank you for sharing. I appreciate learning about things like this, and to see that empowerment enabled you to take active control of your life.

Please feel free to ignore this if you’re not comfortable talking about this with strangers on the internet, but I’ve always wondered what keeps people persisting in a relationship like that. It’s easy for me to say, but I’d imagine having sex would definitely stop being appealing if it’s a one-sided affair. Not sure if I’d have the fortitude to put up with that to such an extent it’d result in three kids.
Please enlighten me if you can, I’m honestly hoping to learn what mindset or circumstances got you to this point.

What a way to tell on yourself there dude.

Yeah. That song even has the benefit of being in English, so you don’t need to find a translation as an English non-German speaker.

Rammstein got so sick and tired of being called Nazis just because they make harsh music with German lyrics that they put out “Links 2 3 4” two decades ago to clear up that they lean socialist. And Till Lindemann himself has said repeatedly that they hate Nazis. And yet, people still associate them with it because they can’t think beyond “Scary German music = Nazi”.

I think you’re on to something here honestly. Windows Phone was Microsoft’s last big new bet in the consumer market (you could argue Game Pass here, but the scope is more niche than a general compute platform), and I am sure that if it succeeded there would’ve been a significant cultural shift at Microsoft, similar to how the success (and subsequent revenue stream dominance) of iPhone/iOS did at Apple.
Sadly, we don’t live in that reality, so now everything Microsoft makes (again, with exception of the aforementioned and dreadfully mismanaged Xbox/Game Pass efforts) for consumers needs to have some kind of enterprise revenue angle to get greenlit at all. From experience I can tell you that a large number of great product ideas wither on the vine at Microsoft simply because management doesn’t consider anything that won’t move the needle on enterprise revenue.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. With the amount of Star Wars media Disney were/are pumping out they’re bound to create something worthwhile eventually. It’s like that thing with the monkeys and typewriters.

Fine. Keep your Napolitan pizza, while I get to enjoy the wonders of focaccia and flammkuchen :D
- Comment on Dinner is ready! 2 months ago:
Exactly. Plus, get me a foccacia with some great toppings and I will happily trade you a Napolitan pizza.

We were talking about national cuisines. To my knowledge Naples is part of the country of Italy.

B is being slept on in this thread. I mean, look at it - you get northern Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, the northern Balkans, Sweden, and Finland. If you like pasta, pizza, grilled meats, fries, potatoes, sausages, licorice, a mindbogglingly large number of breads and cheeses, etc. etc. you’d be stupid not to pick that region.

For some reason this made me feel much older than knowing GAT V launched 11 years ago. I grew up with an NES.

They also laid off folks with H1Bs. No, I suspect the real story here is that someone somewhere got convinced these jobs could be done even cheaper by AI, so they’re cutting folks to fund the datacenters basically.

It’s not impossible to understand Danish as a Swede but it’s different enough in terms of sounds, grammar, maths, etc. that it’s indeed like an uncanny valley. It’s close enough at first glance, but then gets really alien when you start to pay attention to it. It’s like catching snippets of a conversation in otherwise white noise.
I have worked in Denmark too, and share your friend’s experience - both sides default to English.
- Comment on Trømp 10 months ago:
Accurate though. Danish sounds legit like super drunk Swedish at a distance, and uncanny valley up close to anyone speaking Swedish or Norwegian or German.

Thanks for sharing this. I didn’t really vibe with it initially, but this cover has really grown on me. Miley doesn’t hit the same high notes as Debbie but she puts a lot of power behind it and gives the song an entirely different vibe as a result. She’s really singing her heart out here, and it shows.

This is so high on my “should play list” and yes I haven’t gotten around to it. Is it truly as good as folks say? What are your experiences with it having played the original?

Speaking of great Nirvana covers, Post Malone’s pandemic live stream covering a bunch of Nirvana classics stands out to me as well www.youtube.com/live/f7eaGcIyhPU

I had heard that T-Pain’s cover was good but never heard it myself until just now. Not only did he absolutely kill it, but the guitarist went off too. Great performance that honours the original.

Holy cow, that’s one way to honor a band’s legacy. I’m not surprised it moved Plant to tears. Can you imagine sitting there, seeing this immense spectacle and going “Holy shit, we inspired all these people”? Must be mind blowing.
- Comment on The Greatest Cover Song of All Time? 11 months ago:
Thanks for adding that comment. I do recall reading about this somewhere but I forgot to add her as the original artist.
That said, listening to the cover by Manson it’s pretty clear he’s primarily inspired by Soft Cell’s version of the song.
- Comment on The Greatest Cover Song of All Time? 11 months ago:
Wow. Never heard this version of the song, but man did Chvrches knock out it the park. It’s almost unrecognizable but familiar at the same time.
