They also laid off folks with H1Bs. No, I suspect the real story here is that someone somewhere got convinced these jobs could be done even cheaper by AI, so they’re cutting folks to fund the datacenters basically.

Yeah, everyone always brings up the Wii U but the whole “New” 3DS situation was even less clear if you ask me

It’s not impossible to understand Danish as a Swede but it’s different enough in terms of sounds, grammar, maths, etc. that it’s indeed like an uncanny valley. It’s close enough at first glance, but then gets really alien when you start to pay attention to it. It’s like catching snippets of a conversation in otherwise white noise.
I have worked in Denmark too, and share your friend’s experience - both sides default to English.
- Comment on Trømp 5 weeks ago:
Accurate though. Danish sounds legit like super drunk Swedish at a distance, and uncanny valley up close to anyone speaking Swedish or Norwegian or German.

Thanks for sharing this. I didn’t really vibe with it initially, but this cover has really grown on me. Miley doesn’t hit the same high notes as Debbie but she puts a lot of power behind it and gives the song an entirely different vibe as a result. She’s really singing her heart out here, and it shows.

Thanks! I’ll give it a go once the backlog gets cleared out a bit.

This is so high on my “should play list” and yes I haven’t gotten around to it. Is it truly as good as folks say? What are your experiences with it having played the original?

Speaking of great Nirvana covers, Post Malone’s pandemic live stream covering a bunch of Nirvana classics stands out to me as well www.youtube.com/live/f7eaGcIyhPU

I had heard that T-Pain’s cover was good but never heard it myself until just now. Not only did he absolutely kill it, but the guitarist went off too. Great performance that honours the original.

Holy cow, that’s one way to honor a band’s legacy. I’m not surprised it moved Plant to tears. Can you imagine sitting there, seeing this immense spectacle and going “Holy shit, we inspired all these people”? Must be mind blowing.
- Comment on The Greatest Cover Song of All Time? 1 month ago:
Thanks for adding that comment. I do recall reading about this somewhere but I forgot to add her as the original artist.
That said, listening to the cover by Manson it’s pretty clear he’s primarily inspired by Soft Cell’s version of the song.
- Comment on The Greatest Cover Song of All Time? 1 month ago:
Wow. Never heard this version of the song, but man did Chvrches knock out it the park. It’s almost unrecognizable but familiar at the same time.
- Comment on The Greatest Cover Song of All Time? 1 month ago:
I would’ve added it to my list of you hadn’t. Jeff’s version is so good the Cohen original sounds like a cover to me these days.
Also, the only other song besides Cash’s rendition of Hury that will move me to tears on every listen.

Some of these are a bit more obscure, but I think these deserve mention for either transforming or faithfully updating the original songs:
Visigoth covering Necropolis by Manila road: youtu.be/QWixcWq1HPk
Cradle of filth covering Temptation by Heaven 17: youtu.be/MfMa2lrFxhY
The unseen covering Paint it black by the Rolling Stones: youtu.be/QAowDvxJN1A
Type O Negative covering Cinnamon girl by Neil Young: youtu.be/BO9aD4mzSE8
Electric Callboy covering Everytime we touch by Cascada: youtu.be/AuBXeF5acqE
Marylin Mansion covering Tainted love by Soft Cell: youtu.be/srcb-zmKDOE
HIM covering Wicked game by Chris Isaak: youtu.be/8oYodfK4DkE
And who can forget the Guns and Roses cover of Knocking on Heaven’s door by Bob Dylan: youtu.be/k04tX2fvh0o (I’m pretty sure this is another case of a super popular cover eclipsing the original by another super star)

They’re have been countless covers of “while my guitar gently weeps” but I think none of them were as flamboyant as the collaboration between Dani Harrison, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lyne, and of course Prince.
I don’t agree with folks dating this is the best guitar solo ever but man does Prince pour his heart and soul into it.

The DLC for that game was a trip too. Highly recommend checking it out as it really added to Alan Wake 2 for me.

I went into Oxenfree completely blind after picking it up for next to nothing on the switch store. Great story with choices that actually matter. OP, do yourself a favor and play this without a guide.

It’s almost impossible to have not been bombarded with the main story and seeing if Morrisons by this point. But when this game came out it was an experience and a half. Unlike anything I had seen before at least. Sure, Ultima, TES 2, etc all existed. But none of them had never sold their world so effectively if you ask me.

David Cage gets lots of shit for his games, but If you experience them blind without spoilers ahead of time I find they’re pretty good interactive movies.

I love how all Germanic languages can pull that stunt. Be it German, Swedish, Dutch, they all have this magic “turn a sentence into a single word” ability.

I know it’s a joke, but with the level of scrutiny Germany has attracted for its dark history there’s litle chance people wouldn’t have heard of it by now ;-)
- Comment on Games that force you to make hard choices 1 year ago:
I haven’t seen Morrowind’s mentioned, but some of its side quests are very grey in their morality, in ways that later Bethesda games aren’t. Definitely recommend if you want to make choices that keep you wondering if you actually did the right thing, and whether it was in character with your character.
But then again, that goes for the whole story. There’s just enough hints and mentions throughout to make you wonder if you actually are the chosen one or just someone stumbling their way through the game, luckily having events line up with a prophecy.
It’s hard to imagine Bethesda ever attempting something so ambiguous again.

That was the most infuriating thing about this whole post to me. Elon’s braindead take is on brand and expected at this point, but that chart (or worse, the reaserch behind it) is the true crime here.
