Honestly you aren’t even the worst in this thread but you did kinda open the door to some shit
Not that I don’t think you’re dumb as bricks for your “what does skin color have to do with this” comment. You should know damn well what skin color has to do with this
- Comment on degree in bamf 8 months ago:
Honestly that last paragraph just doesn’t mesh with everything else you said. What on earth are your beliefs?
- Comment on degree in bamf 8 months ago:
Maybe there is some hypothetical moral ideal on how people should behave in internet disagreements but I’m just trying to get you to be more realistics lmao
- Comment on degree in bamf 8 months ago:
It happens to be an instance federated with several idealogy-heavy instances, while itself being a general use instance with simple account creation procedures.
It makes it a popular choice for people who want to make multiple accounts for trolling, as well as people who have unpopular (as far as lemmy goes) ideologies. You can hopefully understand the kind of friction that could create and the reputation is the outcome.
You probably could have figured this out yourself if you just… Looked around. You shouldn’t expect people who are in disagreement with you to explain everything.

I feel like the incomplete explenation should have been more than you expected in the first place
- Comment on degree in bamf 8 months ago:
The idea that humans are inherently predisposed to subjugate those different from themselves is a fascist belief that fascists say to justify fascism. So… Not a fan of that line of thought, thanks
- Comment on degree in bamf 8 months ago:
If this is your main argument then:
…it’s obvious that any human being tends to prefer people who they consider similar to themselves.
Doesn’t your paper you linked imply it isn’t so obvious? I still stand by that it’s not really relevant so I’ll just say that I fully disagree with your argument or the implication that you have somehow proven anything.
I’ll just repeat something I said in another comment:
It is intentionally, intellectually dishonest and obtuse to pretend that condemnation of systemic problems resulting from unfair biases for/from certain demographics is as bad as the systemic problems in question.
You just pretend you are unaware of massive swaths of history in order to act offended that anyone would make generic statements about a infamously problematic demographic. And you falsely equate any attempt to talk generically about the problematic behaviour to the same issue, as a transparent tactic to suppress discussion of the problematic behaviour entirely.
I’m sure you will have some bullshit response that will annoy me again but I’m gunna try to let it go because I find talking to you unpleasant.

Your barely-in-context paper is not support for your main argument :
However, this arguably applies less to white men than any other demographic, because such behavior is so consistently condemned and shamed when exhibited by white men.
Do you have any citations that actually support your claim? Because it sound like vibes “please don’t say mean things about my group” bullshit.

- Comment on What happens if flat Earthers go to space? 11 months ago:
I think it would depend on the individual. Some would admit it, once they see the whole globe through that glass it would be like trying to say apples don’t exist in response to someone handing you an apple. Their senses would override the belief. They might not wanna admit it…
Then there would be the people that are fanatics about it… They would probably get hysterical, or check out mentally, or get violent, or some other sort of emotional break. I would also guess these people would be unwilling to go into space in the first place.

Eh I feel like that is semantics. If we are specific and refer to how individuals adapt to be lactose tolerant, you could still say “humans evolved to drink milk” instead in reference to how the population of humans that could adapt and become lactose tolerant grew in relation to humans that couldn’t.
- Comment on Take that to the privacy of your own home. 1 year ago:
Don’t appeal to evolution, evolution is weird. Evolution just does whatever survival says. If we can survive drinking milk, evolution is cool with it. But evolution is weird, evolution will be all like “You like cows milk huh? That’s cool, have you considered shrinking down and losing your brain and most internal organs to become a nipple latching milk parasyte? No? Ok, I’ll ask again later.”

Neither does weed but that’s illegal. And, drinking too much alcohol destroys your body and kills yah. The legality of a substance doesn’t really align with what things are healthy and safe to consume.

No I’ve never peaked my whole life is shitty and unnoteworthy.
Those two things are contradictory, I’m not wrong for asking what that meant.
Apparently the answer is “anything you dislike at all”
- Comment on PSA: the largest piracy community is blocked from lemmy.world 1 year ago:
I disagree that it doesn’t matter, even if it is less relevant to lemmy.world’s course of action.
many people in this thread are making moral arguments against piracy, and most of the people doing so are just appealing to the authority of the law.
but if you really want to have a discussion about the risk to lemmy.world, there wasn’t any yet. the piracy community also disallowed sharing direct links to files, and even in the event that lemmy.world had received a DMCA, that would have been the moment to do something about it, they aren’t liable for just hosting content unless they ignore one of those. acting like they are going to get singled out and have the servers shut down and raided because they might have a cache of some person’s comments from a different website where someone might have posted direct links to illegal files is a massive overreaction. This whole thing was set off by a troll that was mad that they got banned from lemmy.dbzer0.com for being transphobic and tried to tattle on the group like a toddler, not because of any implication that the risks were about to change.
not that anyone but the admin’s opinions matter in this case, it is their server. they could do anything at all and it wouldn’t matter to me regardless of it’s legality or risk. Doesn’t change that I’m not fan of large corporations or the people that bend over backwards for them, out of fear or any reason.
- Comment on PSA: the largest piracy community is blocked from lemmy.world 1 year ago:
When it comes to the legality of most things hosted on websites, that is how it works. The legality of piracy is different, for no reason.
Too many people in this thread are basically saying “discussing/assisting with piracy is illegal, move on” while having no opinion whatsoever on whether or not that is a just law. They just base their morality on what is legal and I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO SAY WHY THAT CAN BE PROBLEMATIC.

“It’s cheaper to run a company if you need less office space” unless you are the company that rents out office space. That is who is creating all this anti-WFH propaganda, people with property real estate investments. Business offices are wildly valuable assets and WFH becoming the default operations method for most businesses would see the value of those assets depreciate

Sure, everyone is variable and your personal experience is valid. It isn’t very different from mine, tbh (also lemmy is social media so…)
I just took exception to the “(people are motivated by upvotes) …only if they have no self esteem and need validation from strangers” part. Many people are motivated by upvotes, but there isn’t anything necessarily wrong with that, and it certainly doesn’t mean they have low self esteem or anything. It just felt rude.
