Is it getting fatter, though? Modern obesity drugs have got to be making a dent now.

It’s great. Not enough people, though.

When I was in grad school I knew a guy who just simply didn’t teach for half the semester. No contact with students, no classes held, just didn’t show. He gave everyone a passing grade on the midterm and came back halfway through. No explanation. He was not fired. Of course, like the rest of us, he was grossly underpaid and didn’t have health insurance. I guess they get what they get if they’re gonna treat us like cogs, right?

As someone who has been burned by their dumbass “hide the baggage fee and charge $25 less than your competitors” strategy, fuck United. I filter them out whenever I’m looking for flights.

Been a long time. Once I found out it was all bones and hooves and connective tissue, that kinda took the fun out of it.

It’s a pretty decent film, if a little heavy on the religious message.
- Comment on The justices of the supreme court ruled that Trump was immune and effectively above the law while being president. What is now stopping Biden from bringing a gun to the next debate? 5 months ago:
Absolutely nothing about this case is a mere reiteration of anything before it.
- Comment on The justices of the supreme court ruled that Trump was immune and effectively above the law while being president. What is now stopping Biden from bringing a gun to the next debate? 5 months ago:
All Biden has to do is claim that it’s an official act, because Trump is a terrorist, a threat to the Constitution, or some other questionable legal pretext. The problem is that there’s no remedy against such a claim. It could be litigated and go to SCOTUS again, who would have to decide whether it’s an official act or not. But this ruling gives no definite rule on what does or does not count as an official act.

- Comment on How many floors are under an apartment on the second floor? (No basement) 7 months ago:
But I’m the US way, you’re only one floor from the ground on the first floor. 0 isn’t a floor, it’s literally the ground we put the first floor on.

Man, where do you live where unemployment is nearly a year at 80% of your salary? When I was unemployed here in Washington, it was six months and more like 50% of my salary. And from what I understand, Washington is a lot more generous than most states.
- Comment on I'm working on it, ok? 8 months ago:
Lots of good reasons why someone might end up in debt. I got divorced and laid off. Dog needed $2k surgery to not have a terrible quality of life. Got a terrible staph infection on my chest after losing health insurance. This all happened in a four month period. I moved to a cheaper apartment, cut off any subscription aside from internet, which I need for two of my four jobs, got a cheaper phone plan, and mostly ate rice and beans every day. Still, it’s taken a year just to get back to zero.

Yeah the plot turns in Prometheus are about as dumb as running in the same direction something is falling instead of just stepping to the left or right.

According to philsurvey, 80% of academic philosophers in the anglophone world are. About ten percent are agnostic and ten percent are theists.

- Comment on US Question. Will the people that have to wait until 70 to get Social Security ever get what they paid in to it back out before they die since men's life expectancy is only 77 now? 1 year ago:
I think they’re assuming retirement age will be raised by the time they retire.

No average year of IRA return is guaranteed to beat the 6.8% interest or more that a lot of us are paying on student loans debt.
