Thirties doesn’t meet any of the three criteria.
Math checks out. Had all my relationships in my 20s. Haven’t had a single one in my 30s and I’m going on 38 now.

Man it’s weird how things happen. I was literally just listening to Bo Burnhams “funny feeling” this morning and he has a line about “Robert (Bob) Igers face” and I thought hmm I actually don’t get that, I don’t know who he is. Then I open Lemmy and see this lol

Tariffs are taxes, but they’re taxes for companies not individuals, and they’re only applied to importing, so they won’t affect me.
Typical Magoo (literally my dad in 2016): “you can’t tax business owners, they’re going to just make everything more expensive for us! They pass on the burden to us!”
Also Magoo: “Yay tarrifs! They are a tax on business but that won’t get passed on to me!”
The Magoo motto: Whatever words I need to use to suit my purpose I will use, to hell with reality.

- Comment on In the US, what is stopping people from bribing members of the electoral college? 3 days ago:
First, in many states the electors are bound by law to support the candidate that wins the popular vote in their state. The penalties may vary, but the intent is clear: to make sure people realize it is against the law in that state
Honestly this is so stupid if I understand their reasoning for existing in the first place. Unless I’m misunderstanding they were supposed to exist literally for this exact election, where the people elected an absolute atrocity of a person and “our betters” would recognize that and vote against him.
We should just do away with it if we have no interest in utilizing them for their actual purposes.
- Comment on THE HECK? Documents show FEMA official ordered workers to ignore houses with Trump signs 1 week ago:
… because right wing people have been threatening FEMA officials because of bullshit lies about immigrants taking enough FEMA money stopping FEMA from helping “real Americans” and helping immigrants “invade.” This what happens when disinformation goes too far…

Never forget that these people all genuinely believe that what they are doing is right.
I do have to admit some hypocrisy in my statement. I’m just too angry to be completely fair lately I guess, but I too have said in the past that I strongly agree with the sentiment that “no one is the villain of their own story.” I do believe that to be true.

This has had me deeply concerned. Nazi Germany was stopped. Who says what would have happened if there was no one to stop them?
At the moment I don’t believe there is anyone capable of stopping us… :(

SIGH …I hate having a conscience sometimes. It would be so much more satisfying to laugh at them… But… They’re people too. Shitty, hateful people, but still people…
- Comment on Post-election blues 1 week ago:
I think that takes more thought than even those who vote with us do. I think we seriously overestimate the political intelligence of the people in this country. Not to say 0% were those people, but if we’re talking millions I think we’re talking about typical ignorance.
I think the vast majority vote D for social issues, but onces their pocketbook gets hurt it’s time to sit it out or worse “punish” the party in power by voting for the opposition. :(
- Comment on Post-election blues 1 week ago:
It wasn’t even exactly that. It was MILLIONS of people who voted Democrat previously just sitting this one out. I don’t think there are 15 Million “Gaza or bust” voters so this was just pure ignorance…
“Trump is horrible, but the Democrats made inflation. I’m not voting for either.” (Conveniently forgetting COVID and the necessary cash injection that helped keep people paying bills on time and kept businesses afloat to be there to rehire when lockdowns ended.) Ignorance…
Not that it was perfectly executed by any stretch of the imagination, but the alternative was everyone “non-essential” goes broke and businesses everywhere collapse. :/

These are the people that hear complaints that the entire yard is covered in rakes, but until they step on one and have it smack them in the face then it isn’t a problem. I’m sick of living with selfish Nazis.

- Comment on do you think lemmy will ever be popular? 1 week ago:
I really don’t think so. The vast majority of internet users just stick with whatever simple thing that serves their need. Lemmy isn’t the most difficult thing, but if reddit already exists and is more popular than people won’t be leaving that for this if they haven’t already.
The boost in people coming here last year was a “last straw” kind of deal from people using reddit who cared enough about not supporting their shit decisions, but by now that has died down and we’ve seen from recent articles that reddit “won” and they have a metric fuckton of users.

- Comment on If Trump wins the election thru fraud how can the democrats refute it and prove they won? Or will it just be like another Jan 6 and four years of whining like Trump? 2 weeks ago:
If we’re saying “Trump won” what do we mean? The election is certified and he gets to be sworn in? If that’s the case then there is absolutely nothing that can be done. We’ll have PBS and 60 minutes stories about what happened and we’ll just have to suffer the reality that they got what they wanted.
If he claims to have won on Tuesday, but the results aren’t in completely then there is room to argue. It would just be bluster, it wouldn’t be officially recognized as a victory. When he does that it will be to ensure he can cry foul if the final results don’t go his way. He 100000000% will be doing this.
