This sort of thing has always happened.
I do find it particularly infuriating when it’s a topic I’m knowledgeable in/involves my profession. But then I remember most people are stupid and it doesn’t both me too much.
- Comment on When if at all will the social media business model collapse? 1 year ago:
I think messaging is more likely to see progress made on this front. I don’t see regulations forcing Spotify to allow for their personalization mechanisms to be transferable and that doesn’t really make sense why they should have to, while messaging I can see happen even if only due to popular demand.

Yes, you’d just need to show that you actively moderate/apply content policies.
This will vary by jurusduction, but most of the West has laws similar to this I believe.

Lemmy instances are likely already protected in many countries legally so long as they act in good faith, ie actively moderate.

I think they have oversimplified the situation to the point that it is wrong.

Arguably, Lemmy instance providers are protected in the same way Facebook or other content hosts are. So long as you are acting in good faith you are protected against any illegal content your users upload. This does mean you need to remove illegal content as you become aware of it, you can’t just ignore what your users are doing.

There have been cases where although a user technically ‘possessed’ CSAM, it was shown that they did so unknowingly via thumbnails or it being cached. The police do investigate where it came from. It’s not as simple as just sending it to someone and you can have them convicted.

Is there any proof of this?
Listening to, and understanding, everything said within range of the phone should use noticeable processing power.

Lol why is that comment you’re replying to so upvoted, people just like what they want to hear.

They have a warped view of supply and demand.

I have no idea why you made that idiotic comment about Republicans considering the involvement if Democrats in slavery.

- Comment on When Y2K happened were there people burning their passports and walking barefoot to Jerusalem or something along those lines? 1 year ago:
Nothing happened because a lot of effort was put into changing vulnerable systems.
I am old enough to remember Y2K. The media definitely stirred some people up about it, in my experience most people seemed to not be too worried about it.
But we shouldn’t dismiss the hard work that a lot of people did to upgrade or redesign systems that Y2K could have affected.
As a aside, I remember that when the clock struck midnight at the NYE party I was at someone flipped the circuit breaker for the house as a joke, turning out all the lights. I remember a few people gasping and wondering what the hell was going on for a few moments until the lights came back on and the prankster revealed himself. Was pretty funny at the time 🤣

Yes I have, I didn’t notice anything strange about his face? He looks different, but not in an uncanny valley way.
- Comment on Bradley Cooper in ‘Jewface’ storm after Leonard Bernstein trailer reveals prosthetic nose 1 year ago:
The Oppenheimer film didn’t have a nose prosthetic.
- Comment on Bradley Cooper in ‘Jewface’ storm after Leonard Bernstein trailer reveals prosthetic nose 1 year ago:
Lol did you purposefully choose a photo of young Bernstein to rile people up? Because when I search for him, plenty of images of him as an older man who indeed had a larger nose come up.

This is a very naive take.

Yeh the real estate argument only accounts for part of the issue I think. The majority is, as you say, the psychological gratification of management and executives. They feel more power when they can see their ‘kingdom’.

My favorite trivia for The Fugitive us how much they sent on a ‘realistic’ dummy for the scene where he falls from the dam… Money very well spent 🤣
- Comment on PLEAAASSEE PLEASE COME BACK TO THE OFFICE PLS 1 year ago:
I find this really hard to believe. I like going in to work, but I don’t work in a standard office (engineer on industrial site). If I were to be working in an office all day though, no way would I prefer that to home.
