- Comment on What would life be like if we had 2 moons? With 2 different lunar cycles, how would we tell which time of the year it is without months? 11 months ago:
True, it takes 28 days for the moon to orbit us and yet only one of our months is actually 28 days long (and even then it’s 29 if the year’s a multiple of 4). Every other month is either 30 or 31 days long.

Perhaps we’d have entirely solar-based calendars with four month-like divisions for the seasons, based on the angle of shadows cast by the Sun (I hear the Mayans had these huge dial things that just counted from 1 to 365) and leap days added onto one season every few years.

The second part I knew, but the first part I did not. Rest assured, I never let this happen, my parents always made sure I knew not to look at the sun

- Comment on Military Time vs 24hr? 1 year ago:
Our country is so big and heavily populated that you’ll rarely encounter someone from a country that uses the 24 hour system. Canada uses the 12-hour clock, and I think Mexico does (but I’m not sure, in all my spanish classes they taught us to say “son las ocho y media en la noche” for 8:30 PM, instead of “veinte y media horas” as I was taught when I studied in Spain for a semester)

I just go to coffee shops. I live in Seattle ffs (though I prefer the smaller and local shops, their food and coffee is more unique and tastes better, and they usually treat their employees way better than starbucks

They’re from one of the hottest countries on Earth, and you wanna give them even more problems by placing them in one of America’s coldest states, with heat domes and blizzards in the same week, hurricane-force winds and hail that can kill you?

Dog shit vs. cat shit. Now, as for Ukraine and Russia the latter is obviously in the wrong- anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.
- Comment on What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved? 1 year ago:
I like the part about how it reminds me of Minecraft, but in space and with tools/weapons that never break and the ability to add more inventory slots. (There are less material options for building player housing though, but at least this limitation has led to some very creative community bases.) That, and I always find it rewarding to discover as many of a planet’s plant and animal species as possible to earn those chip things you can learn crafting recipes with, and many of the planets’ terrain looks pretty awesome since while it is all procedural copypasta, there are countless possible combinations of available ores, rock models/colors/usefulness, terrain color, animal appearances/traits, plant products, hazards, etc. I also like how after coming back to that game after more than a year, I found that unearthing the buried tech things gives you 4 of that data thing you need to complete all the tech-trees in the early game instead of just 1. And unlike many games, they update all platforms at the same time, which is great since I find the console controls on the Switch edition easier to remember than the PC controls.
But I do wish the planets had more than just one climate and biome so they’d be more realistic and those 2 undiscovered rare polar animals keeping you from earning lots of nanites would be less painful to track down. My current home planet is a swamp world that has Florida-like temperatures even at the poles and on mountains.

- Comment on Why don't we pump seawater into deserts to revive them? 1 year ago:
Saltwater destroys soil and vegetation instead of facilitating its existence. And you’d need to add better soil and the means to produce more fertile soil (plant species that shed leaves often and have nitrogen-fixing microbes in their roots).

Considering that most are over 70 and believe in a magical ecosystem that would suddenly stop burning with ever-increasing frequency and severity each summer overnight if West coast states where that happens most often elect more Republican leadership- I highly doubt they’re that clever at all, let alone more so than one congresswoman who lives in their heads rent-free
