- Comment on US Elections question: Bernie Sanders said that the Democrats abandoned the working class, and the working class abandoned them. How is this true? 2 weeks ago:
Sadly, it only works if you’re selling hate and fear.
- Comment on US Elections question: Bernie Sanders said that the Democrats abandoned the working class, and the working class abandoned them. How is this true? 2 weeks ago:
I think of Sanders as like a well-meaning version of Trump. He tells people simple, good-sounding things they want to hear. I trust that he truly cares about the working class, but his ideas are probably too big and vague for there to be a path to actually implement them in any Congress of this era. He’s aware of his recent popularity and maybe a little bitter that he hasn’t gotten much out of it. He’s only a Democrat himself to the extent he can gain more from calling himself that than an independent, so with little to lose at this point in his career he’s lashing out while he can win points kicking the Democrats.

I think they’re implying that it can be rude to broadcast someone’s age, since some people like to be private about it.
- Comment on Why is voting before the deadline in US elections referred to as 'early voting'? 4 weeks ago:
Election Day is traditionally the day to vote, campaigns are still running before that point. Anyone who votes earlier does so with less information than later voters. Trump could say something stupid between now and Election Day, and wouldn’t you feel bad if you’d already voted for him and couldn’t take it back?
- Comment on Why is voting before the deadline in US elections referred to as 'early voting'? 4 weeks ago:
Same reason morning is earlier in the day than night. This is just how linear time works.
- Comment on Steam Now Warns Consumers That They're Buying a License, Not a Game During a Purchase 5 weeks ago:
No, dialup was still common in the early days of Steam, game content was not largely being delivered as downloads yet and discs were still useful because it could not yet be taken for grated that a customer would be always online.
But I’d still rather download a game straight from the developer or publisher without an additional middleman. Privacy aside, the cost of that rent seeking from Steam gets passed along to you.
- Comment on Steam Now Warns Consumers That They're Buying a License, Not a Game During a Purchase 5 weeks ago:
Before Steam you bought a physical disc and it didn’t matter that you technically only purchased a license, the disc was yours and nobody was coming to your house to take it away if the publisher started fighting with the developer or whatever.
- Comment on How come people like Cosby and Weinstein seem decrpit appearing before a judge or jury? Cosby could barely walk and W had to use a walker. Why do this because it doesn't influence anyone? 1 month ago:
Because they get away with their crimes for decades and then they’re old by the time there’s an attempt at accountability.
- Comment on Steam altered the terms of the sale; you'll be happy they altered it further! 1 month ago:
No. Valve tried to force arbitration, which is strongly anti-consumer. When an action was brought against them an actual arbitrator ruled that it was more fair to let a lawsuit happen. With this precedent set, there’s no longer any point for Valve’s terms of service to mention arbitration. This is not a consumer friendly move, this was Valve/“Gaben” trying to fuck consumers and losing.
- Comment on Can we talk about? - Fan service getting out of control. 1 month ago:
People complained when they tried to take the series in a direction of giving more context, depth, and worldbuilding to the aliens and engineers. So now they’ve gone back to just giving us yet another familiar movie from the same template of people running away from aliens, with same old tropes and callbacks.

My 15k deleted comments across multiple accounts are still gone. But I used my own Python script and it was about 6 months before the drama started and lots of people were doing it.

- Comment on Is "True Detective" season 2 bad, or just bad compared to season 1? 1 year ago:
Season 2 wasn’t bad. Even season 1 doesn’t measure up to the idea of season 1. I tried to rewatch it but couldn’t get far. The dialogue is kind of cringe. I enjoyed it once, but it didn’t go anywhere too interesting and in hindsight the self important dialogue isn’t earned.

- Comment on I saw Oppenheimer, it wasn't what I expected 1 year ago:
Oppenheimer went through his life naively and confidently making certain choices. Juxtaposing him facing consequences for a lifetime’s worth of small actions while being the one to punish himself for the big one was brilliant and crushing.
Any director could have made a movie where the climax was the explosion, or a debate about the morality of it featuring a lot of footage of dead civilians.
- Comment on Is Twitter/X really going to shut down anytime soon? 1 year ago:
Think about it like Craigslist. It will still be around in 5 years but it won’t be culturally relevant like it was. Just like Craigslist is still technically around, but no one talks about it and I don’t know anyone who uses it.
Twitter is too big to fail completely in the near future, just like Craigslist was.
