I refer back to my original comment then, who the fuck wants to do that?
You get to be a full time interviewer, with any bad decisions you make fucking up the planet. The ulterior motives may not exist initially but you can be sure that someone will convince your A-team there are “better” ways to do things.
No thank you, give me 7 extra hours per day to enjoy myself with only 1 hour needed to sleep.

Identifying qualified trustworthy people may not be a simple task, everyone has an ulterior motive.

Like I said, I’m not interested in the debate. Just pointing out the horrible discourse that is seen way too often here.
“They” who dive into adhominems includes you too bud, just from the last couple comments you made in this argument you said the following:
Let me give you some advice on debating or trying to discuss things. You should refrain from it.
Just a straight up nasty adhominem attack
Lol no wrong like confidently wrong.
This one is interesting because the whole cause is debated (though generally you’re on what most scholars consider the wrong side, whether that’s right or not I have no idea or interest though). But you state your point like it’s a black and white fact, when it largely depends on your own opinion of which sources you trust. >
I’m used to kiddies like yourself.
Another adhominem attack, “lol child! I don’t have to take anything you say seriously”
Honestly just pretty shitty discussion all around, from both sides. Reddit is pretty far left too mate, less than here because it’s a bugger pool of people that doesn’t hound anyone who doesn’t fit the classic mouldof the “typical lemmy user”, but overall left nonetheless.
Have a nice day anyway mate :) x
- Comment on [META] Never change, lemmy.ml 1 year ago:
Yeah mate go nuts, I’ve been called plenty worse just today and been amused by it.
I am talking to both of you, your comment just happened to be the last in the chain.
I read the argument and thought “jesus fuck this place is basically unbearable”.
Honestly I’ve seen plenty worse on reddit too, but also SO much better. There are obviously loads more users so the worst is worse than the worst here, and the best is better than the best here. The point I’m making is that the average interaction here is worse than reddit, that famously circlejerky echo chamber hivemind. If I don’t fit the mould of a lemmy user it seems I’m a villain 80% of the time.
It really is no surprise users are dropping like flies at the moment and I feel I might be another one soon enough. Not that you care, I hope you have a nice day regardless, take care :) x

I see so many of these attitudes (whether correct or not. I’m not here to argue) and it just makes Lemmy an awful place to try and enjoy my free time.
You guys make reddit look palatable, let that sink in…

Hopefully they’re a bit more humble these days then. I won’t lie, it makes me happy to know some people like that got what was coming to them. A bitter prick I might be but after watching my wife teeter on the brink of collapse working on the wards I have no sympathy for anyone who’s chosen to believe anything but the overwhelming scientific consensus.
If you need to believe that EVERYTHING the government does is wrong then you’re as bad as people who believe that everything they do is good. Unfortunately the pandemic seemed to create swathes of people like that who reduce an argument down to absurdity.
I think in your position I wouldn’t be able to help myself, maybe I wouldn’t directly make fun of his incontinence but I’d probably ask if he remembers when he used to call me diaperface of something like that, just a sly reminder to him what a cunt he was.
- Comment on Anyone remember anything about 2021 1 year ago:
It still blows my mind that so many people thought (and in many cases still do) that the vaccine had some nefarious purpose.
I remember 2021 mainly for arguing with morons online about it.
- Comment on Touchscreen smartphones aren't even fun or novel anymore, they're just necessities for daily life 1 year ago:
Yeah I figured that out by pretending to buy one on the at&t site. They eat the cost of the phone because in the US the network fees are mental from what I could tell.
- Comment on Touchscreen smartphones aren't even fun or novel anymore, they're just necessities for daily life 1 year ago:
Jesus I just set up an iPhone 15 purchase with at&t claiming to trade in your phone and yeah it’s $1000 trade in. However I couldn’t work out why it was a final price of 0 so I kept going, the actual network plans are fucking insane prices so I guess that’s where they make their money back. In the UK I pay £20 a month for a Samsung s22 and £20 a month for 200gb data and unlimited calls/texts. The equivalent of about $50 a month total without even trading in my old phone (this was a decent deal in a sale admittedly).
I was feeling hard done by until I got to the network plans, fuck me.
- Comment on Touchscreen smartphones aren't even fun or novel anymore, they're just necessities for daily life 1 year ago:
If that were the case couldn’t I literally buy a phone with cash and trade it in for more value?Right now in the US you can buy an iPhone 13 for $475 from Walmart, but a carrier will give you a trade in value of $640ish you reckon?
We generally don’t buy phones with cash here either but nobody offers 80% of what you paid 2 years later as a trade in, because they simply aren’t worth it.
Not saying you’re lying, I just don’t see the logic, feel like I’m missing something.
- Comment on Touchscreen smartphones aren't even fun or novel anymore, they're just necessities for daily life 1 year ago:
You get 80% of the price you paid for a phone 2 years later?
I’m calling bullshit there. I could buy a brand new iPhone 13 for £599 today when it released at £779 in 2020.
Or for android, a brand new Samsung S22 costs £499 today and released in early 2022 for £769.
No way you’re getting 80% of what you paid for it after 2 years of use.

Not exactly a minor indie game by any means, but bloons td6 is the game I’ve player the most on mobile by some distance. It’s £6 with no microtransactions and a shit load of content. If you like TD games this is a home run.

- Comment on Could we use AI to update 4:3 media to 16:9? 1 year ago:
The best quality IS the quality the filmmaker wanted when it was created.
People buy CRT TVs even now btw, the absence of input lag makes it ideal for competitive smash bros.
Most people are perfectly happy watching an old film/show on a new screen because it can near as dammit replicate exactly what the director wanted us to see. Adding actual stuff to the framing of shots is a nuts idea and it absolutely changes the quality.
To give an example, having someone’s face fill the screen versus being centred with more background visible around it changes the feel of the shot a LOT. 12 angry men is a good example here because the camera gets almost imperceptibly closer to the person speaking throughout the film to ramp up tension and draw the viewer into the story. It creates a feeling of claustrophobia that would be dulled if you added content to the edges of the screen.
- Comment on Could we use AI to update 4:3 media to 16:9? 1 year ago:
Exactly, the filmmaker knew exactly what the aspect ratio was and framed shots specifically for it, why would anyone ever want this…?

I haven’t downvoted you bud…
Generation means something very specific when you’re talking about the last generation of humans, being alive doesn’t make you the same generation as everyone else currently living.

Pretty sure people though that in the 1910s, then again on the 1940s, then a few times in the 70s/80s, and now again.
Eventually we’ll be right, but humans as a group seem to have incredibly bleak outlooks.

Maybe put that bit in the book eh?

By not active I mean not posting, the original mod handed it over to someone else who posted that day that they would appoint a few mods to help manage it and that was their last comment in lemmy. I’ve asked for an update but seems like they’ve stopped using the site.
The community itself is still manageable to be fair, I’d just like to ensure there are some mods to keep things going. Might make no difference at all to the content, but as the only one has gone awol I thought it’d be good to have some active posters take the mantle instead.

My graphics card isn’t horrible actually to be fair. I’ve got an RTX 2070 but it’s on a 10 year old AM3 motherboard with DDR3 in it so it’s time to replace cpu/mobo/ram.
At the moment it’s not playable for me, I forced myself to play the first few hours but speech visual lags behind the audio and I’m stuck waiting for 10seconds with every sentence. I know loading screens aren’t great for anyone but a solid minute for each screen wasn’t doable either.

I was a huge fan of oblivion and I remember staying up into the early hours at uni waiting for the crack to be released. I put 16 hours in on the first day and never really looked back.
Currently wrestling with whether or not I can justify spending £800 on my pc to play starfield…

No, it’s not.
This is a £5.10 item in the UK, the pic is taken from a reddit post complaining about spending 8 dollars in the US. Which is still a lot but not £8.
