I love the first few episodes, I prefer babyface riker, and I think Dick Picard was a cool badass who I fully support.
But they should have kept Crusher, and the political conflicts were a ridiculous joke epitomized by the cartoonish ferengi. S3 gave us much better aesthetics and politics (though the new character driven storytelling might be a matter of taste).

Yup.

Well at least you’re honest about not caring about the artists.

I’m advocating using Bandcamp where the artist actually gets paid. Spotify is piracy, and I’m discouraging that.
Go to bandcamp and buy the actual album.

So they’re incompetent on top of greedy. They’re selling access to everybody’s music and paying peanuts.

Remember when you called me a dunce? And now you’re self righteous? Anyway, goodbye.

I don’t pirate. I buy albums.
- Comment on "Sponsored recommendations": I pay for Spotify Premium, and yet somehow I'm still the product? 1 year ago:
This makes no sense. Greedy execs are the ones who would implement a greedy business model to pursue their greed.

I think it was 1000000 trillion bazillion dollars, you drooling braindead goon.

WTF is a seedbox?
I have no trouble listening to unlimited music, it’s literally everywhere.
Plus it’s not just about owning the album (although I absolutely insist on listening on whichever device I choose). It’s also about paying the artist.
Sp0tify pays peanuts. When I buy the album from the band’s site or bandcamp they get a hell of a lot more money from me. And I want to support them.
You cannot support any artist through Spotify.

If it’s one big cause that applies to millions, then no, individual therapy cannot fix that massive problem.
- Comment on "Sponsored recommendations": I pay for Spotify Premium, and yet somehow I'm still the product? 1 year ago:
Just because they’re incompetent doesn’t mean they’re not greedy.
Also, executives can still be cleaning up even as the company struggles to profit.

Yeah that $100 billion they gave Joe Rogan is where your payments go.

If you’re going to p1r@te, you don’t have to pay sp0tify to do it…
- Comment on "Sponsored recommendations": I pay for Spotify Premium, and yet somehow I'm still the product? 1 year ago:
It’s the same as pirating, except Spotify gets paid.

Yes!

Spotify is garbage. You pay them to basically pirate unlimited music (they pay table scraps). They have no values or integrity, but they do have a greedy business model.
I buy albums off bandcamp instead. Or from the artist’s site directly.

Can you offer some examples of where “being vulnerable” led a man out of depression?
I do agree that there is a culture of masculine shame around mental health, and it can be unhealthy. But I’ve also seen that those who share their feelings don’t get the promotion, tend to make coworkers uncomfortable, drive women away. Life is still a competition and vulnerability is genuinely risky.
I’ve seen bullies strategically share false vulnerability to garner sympathy. Genuine vulnerability often looks gross from a man, and is unlikely to lead to positive outcomes.
Most importantly, this new wave of mental health problems is not caused by a new wave of “not being vulnerable.” It’s a societal issue and must be confronted there, not shunted onto each individual man.
- Comment on Could we improve men’s mental health? 1 year ago:
Therapy is never a cure. If you have a problem then therapy can help you confront it and deal with it, but if we have a massive society-wide mental health crisis it will not be solved by each man individually seeking therapy.
We need meaning in our lives, something worth dedicating ourselves to, and the means to pursue it. Mercenary capitalism won’t provide that.
In short, I don’t see an answer. I think it will get worse.

deal with it or make your own instance.
We will deal with it by raising concerns among our peers, even as you callously tell us to leave. You make your own instance and leave others to communicate openly without your ugliness.
- Comment on PSA: the largest piracy community is blocked from lemmy.world 1 year ago:
Maybe you can host your own private instance and smirk as you block everybody while the rest of us communicate.
This nonstop suggestion of “hOst yOuR oWn iNstAnCe” is rarely a good solution. They already know it’s an option. You never provide anything when you say it, except to display your own smug smirk as you tell your fellow lemurian to get lost.

The nice thing about federation is that we can all go fuck ourselves and die alone on our personal private servers under a bridge.
- Comment on Why were we able to stamp out Nazism but not the Taliban? 1 year ago:
Nazis only lost their empire. They’re basically terrorists themselves now, though not as well funded apparently.
- Comment on Why were we able to stamp out Nazism but not the Taliban? 1 year ago:
Terrorism doesn’t have an empire in the same way. They don’t usually occupy an entire nation with an economy and complex professional society. The empire was crushed.
Terrorism is all underground. Do we know how it’s funded? What are the economics of terrorism? Infrastructure? They’re more slippery.
