design challenge: invent a treatment for these access lids that allows them to be swapped around while remaining aesthetically pleasing. it occurred to me that some physical forcing function might keep them in the right order also…

i spent a lot of hours as a kid playing that first wizardry game. never made it far and found it confusing and unsatisfying. later when i found nethack i learned how to be satisfied with the confusion :*)

The best musicians can often be seen creating the most dulcet tones on the most dirty, busted, and worn-in instruments.

- Comment on In movies a strong woman is manly. (big muscles, aggressive, punches people, etc.) Is that really the way it is? 1 year ago:
musculature is not solely masculine, but if that’s the association for you, it makes sense that you feel a woman with muscles “starts looking like a man”. a similar circular reasoning would be arrived at if you simply considered strength itself to be a masculine trait.

theres also cooked.wiki. tack “cooked.wiki/“ onto the start of a recipe URL and it scrapes and reformats for you

a woman can be physically strong without “turning into a man”.
strength of character? how about “nomadland” or “meek’s cutoff”?

- Comment on Samsung’s new T9 Portable SSD is twice as fast as the T7 1 year ago:
i had a lot of problems with my t7 and went through an absolutely excruciating return process. the bad service now makes me think twice about buying samsung products in general, but i had zero issues and was very happy with my samsung memory products before the t7.
i would get great read/write performance, but i think it had some bad blocks or whatever (confirmed but not apparently correctable with samsung magician) that id run into; when that would happen the drive would get a red blinkenlight, my pc would freak out, refuse to dismount the drive, unplugging/replugging was of no use, and the only temporary remedy involved a full reboot.
- Comment on What would it take to change an Internal Combustion Engine Car to an EV? 1 year ago:
Not sure there is a truly common package. Each manufacturer seems to be doing their own thing (unless they’re a small fry directly buying parts from some other manufacturer already doing their own thing). So I guess a common package might be “whatever’s in a Tesla”, but that’s not a very satisfying answer.

When I’ve mulled over this question, placement of the batteries is usually the sticking point. Electric cars are designed to put the heavy batteries in a relatively advantageous spot for handling.
