I got farther than you, but felt all of those things didn't really improve or feel as fun. The weapon breaking is annoying. I feel like it's too quick.

In a dictatorship with an AI being in control, I don't think there's a question of accepting consequences at they very least.
There is no such thing as best case scenario objectively, so it's always going to be a question of what goals the AI has, whether it's given them or arrives at them on its own.

An AI running the world is not a democracy. I don't see how that would play a part in this at all. A majority of the world likely does not concur with the resource allocation as it is but are powerless to do anything.
I don't think this post implies the AI isn't capable of enforcing its reign.

I mean, it seems weird to say "was". It came out 6 months ago. It may technically be accurate, but the connotation makes it sound a lot older.

I feel like you just used a lot of words to say resource allocation is a problem. And the other commenter said an algorithm would be better at it.

There are other forms of machine learning that could be utilized. Some work more toward being given a set of circumstances to reach and then it just keeps trying to new things and as it gets closer, it just keeps building on those.

Nah. It's because they want to sell data. It's super easy to comply unless you collect data from visitors. And you literally just have to say "if you click no, then we won't collect data". Some sites go out of their way to actually force you to opt out of every single cookie.
- Comment on Well, fuck you too. 1 year ago:
Uploads would likely be a lot more affected as your connection is very lopsided. I should have been more specific that down is a lot more difficult to max out. And uploads are more affected by your connection speed. So yeah, uploads you may see a difference. Depending on what you're torrenting though, VPN is likely safer for that to begin with.

Personal data is an enormous market in the US. Too many big players located here. It'd never happen unfortunately. We'd need to replace all of Congress with folks who actually care about rights and people instead of money. We have only a handful on the left and that's only in the house, and that's being generous. I haven't seen any attempts really on the right. So it'd be a long time until this is even remotely possible. I'd be amazed to see a senator actually care about people though. Or even a governor.

Incapable is not the same as refuses to.
- Comment on Well, fuck you too. 1 year ago:
I mean, honestly, you'd have to already have poor Internet to not be able to max out most connections regardless. It's the lag that is affected and it's likely still under a second.

Also true.

Many folks deleted their contributions when they migrated away. So it isn't intentionally trying to not help anyone else. It was just protesting against reddit more likely.

Which side of the fence are you putting store managers on? At a minimum that's $48 an hour (or a little over $3 for every $1 by the lower employee), but it's likely worse than that as often store managers work more than 40 hours a week and are not allowed overtime, so their pay doesn't change. Just saying I can't tell based on your wording if you think the gap between managers and employees is a problem, as I guess it's debatable, but definitely nowhere near the numbers above. So just wondering if you could clarify your point a bit.
- Comment on CEOs of top 100 ‘low-wage’ US firms earn $601 for every $1 by worker, report finds 1 year ago:
I know. But investors don't care. They're the root of the problem. CEOs are simply an employee of the company that ultimately represents the shareholders interest. Affecting their pay does not affect shareholder value that much. It just commoditizes the CEO position.
- Comment on CEOs of top 100 ‘low-wage’ US firms earn $601 for every $1 by worker, report finds 1 year ago:
No, for investors to grow revenue it would. Which was the whole initial concept of owning the means of production. You invest in what you thought would make money. You didn't invest because you wanted to take away employee's earned value to yourself. But that's what it came to. A majority of inflation is profit-driven related. Not government assistance related like many corporations and conservatives want you to think. Aside from that, any overt success is shared amongst everyone and no increase would be offset by normal COLA through the supply chain. People could survive and thrive without having to gut the value of employees or those in the supply chain. The only issue would be loss of business which is always a risk. But losses can be shared equally or if it's a large enough loss over a long enough time, it would require some folks to be laid off and depending on why, the employees could put the person running the business.

I'm ok with this, but it's essentially just a step toward socialism which is the better option (but will never happen). Because all this will do is make CEOs less wealthy from the company itself. The investors still make tons more than the CEOs already and they don't do anything. You need to force revenue sharing essentially which is just socialism with extra steps. Cause CEOs will just end up investing in other companies and still be wealthy and get less compensation from the company itself.
- Comment on Apart from water and salt, are there any inorganic foods? 1 year ago:
If you're asking if you could survive off only non-organic, than no. Your body won't generate energy from those things. Broadly fat, carbs, and proteins are the primary sources (there are others, but they can mostly be shoe-horned into one of those or they're insignificant sources).
You also need a better definition of "food." You can ingest a lot of things that are considered inorganic and not die, but that doesn't make them food. You'll still essentially die of malnutrition though. So your body will still starve, so I guess you could use that as part of the definition of food I suppose. But then salt doesn't count as a food anymore, neither does water (but that makes sense at least... water has never been considered a food really).
I think you're using a lot of words that have ambiguous meanings that folks don't usually think about and that's going to affect a lot of answers.
- Comment on Apart from water and salt, are there any inorganic foods? 1 year ago:
Organic compounds don't have a strict consensus based definition today. So any matter of fact statement isn't widely held any longer. It's just one school of thought so to speak.
- Comment on Apart from water and salt, are there any inorganic foods? 1 year ago:
Compound is absolutely different than solution. That's not a varying definition amongst scientists. Compounds have a meaning. There's no ambiguity. Organic compounds have a very nebulous definition and there isn't consensus. One such meaning does include most hydrogen carbon compounds. Others include carbon-carbon based compounds (but by definition, a compound requires more than one element, so diamond for example does not fit). You're correct in pointing out nuance for the meaning of organic. You're just digging a hole trying to defend the idea the other person's statement could be interpreted as adding anything to water makes it organic.

I mean... it seemed like a good idea and all, but it didn't help Cambodia. It's like only a couple paragraphs down in your link. It only addresses iron-deficiency based anemia which was not the main cause of anemia in Cambodia.

Depends how strong the movement really is. It can produce a martyr or it can produce a chilling effect. Some assassinations aren't even of overly successful movements.

- Comment on From gamer to what?? 1 year ago:
Doubt it's intentional. The saying "all publicity is good publicity" is not true, particularly in this day and age. Folks are sensitive about sensitive topics and racism is one. They'd never knowingly try to market it in such a shady way as the backlash to being found out could bury the movie.
- Comment on If bullshit jobs are *really* bullshit, how do businesses justify the expense? 1 year ago:
That's not the alternative. An alternative would be hiring people because it offers some benefit to the company.
- Comment on If bullshit jobs are *really* bullshit, how do businesses justify the expense? 1 year ago:
That's fine. That's my point though. The intentions are entirely different. I don't think any company is actively worried about ensuring people are employed. The end result of a bunch of other motivations may be the same, but my statement is about the why.
