I know it's kinda cheating to bring them up in this context, bur the Swiss manage to run trains to very small towns just fine

In a pretty short span of time no less.
I've definitely had 16 drinks in a day before, just spread out over, yknow, most that day.

Ah yep, you're right that's the one I was thinking of. Both are pretty interesting, forget how young this country is sometimes.

So I went to double check, and I got a fair bit of it wrong.
Irene Triplett
She was actually the daughter of the woman I thought I was talking about. Her mother married her father at ages 29 and 78 respectively, and she was born one of five children in 1930, living until the age of 90 before passing in 2020. - Comment on What is the longest discontinuous marriage? 1 week ago:
Not at all an answer to your question, but a very semi-related tangent.
The last receipt of a US Civil War pension passed away relatively recently. She was a young woman who would regularly help out a local older man, a civil war vet with no kids or family otherwise. Towards the end of his days, he married her so she'd get the benefits of his pension, as things were really really tough.
- Comment on When did the show "Suits" suddenly get popular? 1 week ago:
It's a feedback loop. A fairly small jump can get you trending, which makes people watch it, which makes it even more visible, rinse and repeat.

If we had the same size, I could be wearing my grandfather's steeltoes that are probably a solid 40 years old. People really underestimate how long good footwear lasts when you take care of it.

That doesn't really solve anything. As long as there is profit to be made, people will horrendously abuse it. That's not something we want when were in the middle of a homeless crisis yet we have more than enough empty housing for them.
Maybe once everyone's basic housing needs are met we can talk, but until then no.

Not directly related to income tax, but I'm a bog believer in having property tax on a exponential scale. Start off quite low for your first property, a vacation home is still reasonable, but by the time you're much past that it becomes completely unreasonable to keep buying properties. Add a hefty multiplier for empty units on top of that, and you'd go a long way to fixing the issue with property hoarding.

That's pretty much my story as well. Early into my first healthy relationship I was in, my gf stopped by my work to drop me off a donut. Just happened to be showing nearby and thought of me.
That shit was outright mindblowing to me at the time consider I had a negative sense of self worth.

Should be, and usually is, but if you've never been in a healthy relationship you may not expect it. Especially if you've been in an unhealthy relationship.

I've been a bit burnt out lately, but fully agree with Squad. My most played steam game by a fair bit. Love the ICO so much.
- Comment on What's up with Epic Games? 4 months ago:
Since I can almost guarantee you major publishers would not publish on steam without some sort of DRM, yeah Im fine with them having an easily crackable form of DRM. Especially since they're not exactly jumping to prevent people from doing it.

- Comment on What fun things can I do with an M.2 SSD and 2x4GB ram? 4 months ago:
In that case (pun intended), your best bet would probably be to try to find a NUC (or similar) that supports expansion. I think I remember seeing some that did, but it's been a few years since I've looked into that market. I know intel stopped making them first party, so it might be a pain in the ass to find now
- Comment on What fun things can I do with an M.2 SSD and 2x4GB ram? 4 months ago:
Could you? Probably. Should you? Probably not.
Realistically unless you're up for spending at minimum of a couple hundred bucks, you're not going to get a true mini-pc (unless you want to buy a NUC or something, but that kinda defeats the purpose). Any mini-itx case you'd want (<14L) is going to be around the $100 mark on the cheap end. Unless you really luck out and find a compatible used motherboard on the cheap, youre looking at another $100 minimum. Could get a used 4600g for ~$65, but it's probably not going to come with a cpu cooler if it's used. Add in a power supply that fits, that's another $140 on a good day.
Small form factor PCs are stupid expensive because it's a fairly niche market that very few people absolutely need.
What I'd personally do is find a used dell inspiron or similar for <$150 and toss that all in it
