A big part of what makes it work on reddit is the large number of historians willing to provide lengthy well cited answers. Lemmy doesn’t have that.
Unfortunately not everything that works there works here. I’ve started a few different communities on a few different accounts and the only ones that take off are the ones I haven’t tried to force, they just sort of naturally drew people and ran themselves.
I hope I’m wrong though and askhistorians takes off. It would be fun to have here.

Frustrating to get an ad popup over the list making it unreadable, with no obvious way to dismiss it.
Sites behave like this and then get mad about ad blockers.

Have you done and blind testing? I’d be curious if you can really tell or if it is the ownership thing.
