Was it the game called Viking battle for Asgard?
- Comment on New Halo Campaign Evolved Report Claims Heavy Outsourcing and Major Gameplay Changes 4 days ago:
On one hand, I get it. Some of what made Halo CE a great FPS at the time has basically been reused (and expanded upon) by nearly every FPS since then, so it makes a lot of sense to modernize it to catch up.
On the other hand, it feels funky to grab the original and give it this overhaul. Why not tell a new story if you’re going to make so many changes anyways?
- Comment on Splinter Cell designer says “one of the difficulties with modern stealth games” is realistic lighting, as environments are now so much “harder to read” 1 week ago:
This is a peak AAA problem. The need for ultra high fidelity realism clashes with the need to make the actual gameplay.
Maybe they need splashes of yellow paint to show where the stealth area is.
- Comment on Is it just me or is Lemmy less active than reddit? 1 week ago:
It is less active - There’s a fraction of the users here on Lemmy compared to Reddit.
There’s also likely a lot of bots on Reddit which can artificially inflate how active something looks.

- Comment on Why do people claim when they buy lets say an M16 Fully Automatic Assault Rifle it is for hunting or self protection? Could you just bow and arrow during a hunt for more of a challenge? 2 weeks ago:
(I’m assuming US)
You can’t buy full auto M16s, and bow hunting is very popular.
- Comment on Why do celebs get Trailers on set or nearby? Wouldn't it be better to get a motel room and once really famous do a commercial for said hotel as payback? 2 weeks ago:
So… No.
The advantage of a trailer is its on set in an area that’s securely locked down. A hotel is going to have workers who all have access to your room and therefore you/your stuff.
Secondly, an actor can be expensive but there are a lot of people involved with filming, so that’s only one piece of the cost. Not to mention they’d have to pay someone to air the ad.
Third, a hotel may not be very close to the film set, certainly not walking distance. Time is money and even slight extra travel cost, potential delays because of accidents, etc could be a huge set back and end up costing a lot of money in the long run.

- Comment on Should I tell my dad that his mistake almost cost me a fortune? 5 weeks ago:
I’d actually not assume the joint failure was his mistake. It could be something else unrelated or the customer doing something funky.
If you did bring it up, I wouldn’t assign blame and more assess the situation for other possibilities.

- Comment on Does the engine a game uses factor into your decision to buy it or not? 1 month ago:
I agree - An engine at the end of the day is just a tool.
This isn’t intended to be a bash a specific engine thing. I recently had a discussion with a friend who noted they very specifically avoided specific engines and I was wondering if that was a common sentiment or if he’s just odd.

I hate to wear some tinfoil but I’d 100% be unsurprised if Bungie or Sony were doing ‘marketing campaigns’ using stuff like astroturfing to promote their game. Its not really uncommon on Reddit and I have seen small/medium sized companies attempt stuff like this in an attempt to go viral.
All that being said, there’s absolutely no way bigger companies like that would 1.) be using Discord to conduct this and 2.) paying randoms to do so. There are much easier ways to go about doing this.

I got to admit - I only played Firewatch briefly (~20 minutes). I just remember walking around and replying to a lady on the radio before stepping away and never jumping back in.
It seems I missed what the reactive storytelling was supposed to be about.

- Comment on How come in American classrooms they make another language an elective. Why not teach our kids as many languages possible that way if we go somewhere we will kind of have uper hand? 2 months ago:
In my own experience, if you pick up another language but don’t use it on an at least a semi-regular basis, your skills in it get real rusty real fast.

- Comment on How do I make a dog mean? Not that I want that but would kind of like for him to also be our protector much as his. I don't want to hit him or deprive him though he is just sometimes tooo nice. 3 months ago:
Dogs generally have a good sense if something is wrong or if someone is being aggressive towards you. You don’t have to (and shouldn’t!) make a dog “mean”, he’s perfectly capable of it if he feels something is up.
- Comment on My father the tween literary critic 3 months ago:
I was specifically thinking of books with sexual violence, suicide, or promoting toxic behavior, and even then it does go down to the book’s context.
- Comment on My father the tween literary critic 3 months ago:
It sounds kind of ridiculous but this is actually pretty smart. I’d prefer to know what my kids are diving into and maybe set up guardrails or at least warnings if something they were interested in was funky.
- Comment on Video game romances need to evolve beyond lore dumps 3 months ago:
I’d probably argue games that ‘can’ do this well is JRPGs because they tend to be a slow burn and have a lot of small side conversations that are not directly plot related, which allows the characters and relationships to get fleshed out.
The ones that immediately come to mind are FF 8/9/10 but I’m certain there are others.
In games where the romance is like a mechanic and not a part of the story? Hmm that’s a tougher question because I think mechanics/gameification tend to ruin the human part of relationship building.
- Comment on I'm Cooked, Right? (FTL) 3 months ago:
Yeah probably. You may be able to get two crew on oxygen and two on the pilot seat for repairs, then jump out of there first chance you get and hope you’re in range of a shop to buy some repairs since you got 150 scrap.
You’re just going to have to cross your fingers that the shield hold long enough and that no missiles hit the engine.
- Comment on Would the tart blueberries taste as good if you didn't have to randomly power through 3 to 5 bland ones between each good one? 3 months ago:
I’ve found store bought ones are usually bigger but blander. Wild or home grown blueberry is quite a bit better.

- Comment on A Baldur's Gate HBO series is in the works, will be set directly after Baldur's Gate 3 with new and returning characters 3 months ago:
I’m uncertain on this as its being made without Larian and likely has more involvement from Hasbro, now that the latter is realizing BG has turned out to be a golden goose despite their attempts to wring it for cash.
