- Comment on Microsoft’s Xbox to Shift Obsidian Studio to New ‘Fallout’ Video Game 2 days ago:
They supposedly just canceled Avowed 2, which would have been about a year in development, to get the ball rolling on this.
Microsoft has a history of corporate meddling (if 343’s devs experiences are accurate) but you are right, they can’t really afford to mess this one up, so I’d hope they let the talent do their thing and make a great game.
- Comment on Microsoft’s Xbox to Shift Obsidian Studio to New ‘Fallout’ Video Game 2 days ago:
Microsoft’s leadership, specifically.
- Comment on Microsoft’s Xbox to Shift Obsidian Studio to New ‘Fallout’ Video Game 2 days ago:
I feel obligated to point out that this won’t be the same Obsidian who made New Vegas. Same company, but (mostly) not the same devs or the same leadership.

Not really impressed with the teaser video but I quite like Against the Storm and hope this will be good.
- Comment on ESA bafflingly declares private Minecraft servers 'illegal' 1 week ago:
When you buy Minecraft, it associates a game license to your Microsoft ID. So when you sign in to the launcher, the DRM server is what it checks with to make sure you own and can play Minecraft before letting you in.
- Comment on ESA bafflingly declares private Minecraft servers 'illegal' 1 week ago:
I’m actually going assume they (ESA) meant the Minecraft DRM servers and not the hosting and playing with friends servers, because they refer to ‘counterfeiting and piracy’ lawsuits right afterwards. I mean its easy to say they don’t know the difference but I’d suspect this was a little more malicious.
- Comment on Will PS6 Be Like a Nintendo Switch? Sony Says Its Next-Gen Console Will Enable 'A Seamless Experience That Can Be Enjoyed Naturally Beyond the Living Room' 1 week ago:
The article brings it up too, but I suspect this actually means streaming games. I can see it sort of making sense where you already own a digital library and via some subscription, can stream those games to specific devices.
- Comment on Baldur's Gate 2's co-lead designer was asked to make Baldur's Gate 4 after Larian declined: 'Having to compete against Baldur's Gate 3? That would be insanity' 1 week ago:
I suspect Hasbro went ahead and continued offering BG4 to studios until one of them took the bait.
- Comment on Game suggestions: Downvote any game you've heard of before 1 week ago:
I’ve been playing Idols of Ash and Echo Point Nova.
Both are pretty nifty, don’t usually see much conversation about either.
- Comment on What games meet this criteria? 1 week ago:
I think there’s actually a lot of games that fit all of those?
What genres do you play? Shooters, survival games, RPGs, sandboxish…? Might narrow down some ideas.
- Comment on Why has it became usual business for shows people like getting canceled after one season? They don't even have time to flesh out a decent story? Why not let them have at least 3? 2 weeks ago:
I’m not looking up numbers right now but didn’t all of those have strong first seasons, in terms of viewers?
- Comment on Why has it became usual business for shows people like getting canceled after one season? They don't even have time to flesh out a decent story? Why not let them have at least 3? 2 weeks ago:
As I recall, viewers typically go down as the show goes on. If its got a bad viewership, there’s not a great reason to keep pumping money into it when you can put that money into something new that might do much better.
- Comment on If I went to a mechanic for my car and told them I had a problem with the aft starboard tire would they think I'm a dork? 2 weeks ago:
Yeah but they’d probably find it a little funny too.
- Comment on Femality is stored in the nipples 2 weeks ago:
As I recall, Fallout does this with the tanktop/shorts combo.

Give the Type-A a chest binder. Now everyone is covered.

I just saw a post about blahaj being down for a few hours to solve a security issue.
- Comment on How much money do you think Superman could make if he offered his services to NASA as a launch vehicle? 3 weeks ago:
A lot, but Superman wouldn’t charge them for it, being a superhero and all.

- Comment on Is It a Bad Idea to Combine Survival, Extraction, and 5v5 Modes in One Game? 4 weeks ago:
What you generally find is that different gameplay loops tend to clash in bad ways. Games with a bunch of moving parts also tend to be hard to nail down what’s working well and what isn’t.
To be blunt, this is an ambitious project, in a bad way. You’re approaching this as a large studio might and not as what you should be (which is as an indie dev).
Its age-old tradition for an indie dev to pursue their dream project and then crash and burn a bit before drastically scaling down the project scope, but I recommend doing a games more ‘game jam’ level before you undertake the dream project.

Was it the game called Viking battle for Asgard?
- Comment on New Halo Campaign Evolved Report Claims Heavy Outsourcing and Major Gameplay Changes 1 month ago:
On one hand, I get it. Some of what made Halo CE a great FPS at the time has basically been reused (and expanded upon) by nearly every FPS since then, so it makes a lot of sense to modernize it to catch up.
On the other hand, it feels funky to grab the original and give it this overhaul. Why not tell a new story if you’re going to make so many changes anyways?
- Comment on Splinter Cell designer says “one of the difficulties with modern stealth games” is realistic lighting, as environments are now so much “harder to read” 1 month ago:
This is a peak AAA problem. The need for ultra high fidelity realism clashes with the need to make the actual gameplay.
Maybe they need splashes of yellow paint to show where the stealth area is.
- Comment on Is it just me or is Lemmy less active than reddit? 1 month ago:
It is less active - There’s a fraction of the users here on Lemmy compared to Reddit.
There’s also likely a lot of bots on Reddit which can artificially inflate how active something looks.

- Comment on Why do people claim when they buy lets say an M16 Fully Automatic Assault Rifle it is for hunting or self protection? Could you just bow and arrow during a hunt for more of a challenge? 1 month ago:
(I’m assuming US)
You can’t buy full auto M16s, and bow hunting is very popular.
- Comment on Why do celebs get Trailers on set or nearby? Wouldn't it be better to get a motel room and once really famous do a commercial for said hotel as payback? 1 month ago:
So… No.
The advantage of a trailer is its on set in an area that’s securely locked down. A hotel is going to have workers who all have access to your room and therefore you/your stuff.
Secondly, an actor can be expensive but there are a lot of people involved with filming, so that’s only one piece of the cost. Not to mention they’d have to pay someone to air the ad.
Third, a hotel may not be very close to the film set, certainly not walking distance. Time is money and even slight extra travel cost, potential delays because of accidents, etc could be a huge set back and end up costing a lot of money in the long run.

- Comment on Should I tell my dad that his mistake almost cost me a fortune? 2 months ago:
I’d actually not assume the joint failure was his mistake. It could be something else unrelated or the customer doing something funky.
If you did bring it up, I wouldn’t assign blame and more assess the situation for other possibilities.
