- Comment on Why are Steam games priced unfairly in Euros indifferent to where one resides? 2 weeks ago:
I’d say the other option is being patient gamer. I only buy at discounts year(s) after release. It’s a win win in my book:
- it’s way cheaper
- no beta testing, games are patched by the time
- the moment of purchase I might have a PC that is powerful enough for older game
- if the game had denuvo, it would probably be gone at the time due to its licensing costs

You’re right. It’s not point and click adventure. The controls resembles it though, you point and click and Andreas goes there. That’s where similarities end.
Also you have a point the pacing is really slow. The game I played before Sentiment was Amid Evil, which is old school fast paced boomer shooter, so the switch was pretty brutal. But in the end it felt somehow “relaxing”? So much shit happens so fast IRL so I found myself coming to the game to actually enjoy the slow progression. But I can see how people might dislike it. I like reading books and I read slow so I’m used to slow progression.

I finished Pentiment yesterday. It’s fantastic. I was fighting with clunky controls a bit at the start, but I’m really glad I did not give up.
RPG elements (i.e. character progression) are very basic, gameplay-wise it’s like crossbreed between point and click adventure and walking (& talking) simulator. No action whatsoever, just walking and talking. And still it’s a great game. How? It’s all about the story, characters and your interactions with them. All writing is great, as we can expect from Obsidian. The entire game I wanted to progress further and further just to see what happens next, how people react to what you do, how tables turn and the game did not disappoint in this regard. Also art style, sound effects (writing sounds when dialogs roll) and fragments of music helps it a lot to get that “medieval” atmosphere.
I won’t spoil the story in case there are still people who haven’t played it yet. I’ll just tell the game has three acts, where first one is the most non-linear and open and each subsequent one is more narrow and linear as the story continues. And while it might look like it’s limiting, it fits the storytelling well, so no problem with me. There are quite a few story twists during the game so I honestly enjoyed it a lot and I didn’t know how it would wrap up to the very end.
The game gets 5/5 from me and I can highly recommend it to everyone seeking calm gameplay focused on story and characters. It is similar to games like Disco Elysium in this regard, although the gameplay is still very different.

Every single video I’ve seen, every single article I’ve read screams overhyped bullshit. The game looks extremely bland, shallow and generic to me. Sure it has nicely polished visuals but apart from that? Nothing.
- Comment on Moder games with Abuse-like controls scheme? 3 months ago:
I’ve recently played Carrion and although you’re controlling the monster there it felt very much like Abuse to me. Apart from mouse and keyboard controls, it has very similar art style and art direction with very nice “old school” pixel art. Very mich recommended.

I mean crippled like it is “as is”, no space to expand, tinker, swap parts. I’ve also seen a rumor it’ll have locked BIOS, but I hope that’s just a rumor.
- Comment on 5 months ago:
That sucks. I hoped Valve would price it competitively to boost the sales and adoption. But why would I buy this “crippled” PC for the same price I can buy retail? The main gripe for me is Gabecube has no room for upgrade, not even second drive, nothing. Which obviously is not the case with self built PC.
Don’t get me wrong I still like the idea, but the price just must make sense.

Well, I believe there are ways where AI is helpful in games. Like brute force translation to languages nobody would pay translator for. Or some automation of world. Or maybe populating world with objects. Or modeling character visuals. But why would anyone want game with story, gameplay loop or quests made by AI? Or AI made lore? Dafuq is that?!

I don’t see Soldier of Fortune mentioned, so this is my pick. Yes, it’s old, but back in the day it had the best gun play I saw. Haven’t played it in over decade, but it can’t be that bad, can it?

I honestly believe SC will also release at some point in somewhat final shape. But that point is still far far away... Until then they'll be teasing us with more promises and will continue practice of their "development as a service" business.

- Comment on what video game deserves to be in a museum? 9 months ago:
Amazing list. I personally would add couple games, that defined my "gaming hobby":
- XCOM/UFO: Enemy Unknown - not sure how this fits in the list, but it was ground breaking for me: perfect blend of micro- and macro management, strategical decisions, tactical battles, what a great game and so much memories of it (and I'd put honorable mention of Jagged Alliance 1&2 here, 'cause they are very similar concept)
- Civilization - genius idea, one of the 4X pioneers, easy to pick up, hard to master, and so much replay value; its overall depth is quite a feat, especially given it's from 1991, no wonder the franchise is still alive and well now
- Fallout - esp. 1 & 2 might not be the best gameplay-wise, but their world building, characters and atmosphere are excellent... and everyone knows the legendary intro "War, war never changes..."
- Planescape: Torment - similar to above, amazing world, unbelievable story, one of a kind game
- Gothic - mainly 1&2 were simply awesome, there are no barriers (ahem), the world is your to explore, but it's deadly so you have to plan your progress, nothing is streamlined for you; I can't remember different game with such a vibe (other than piranha bytes later production)
- VtM: Bloodlines - kind of similar to Deus Ex, but also taking from the table top; and in my book it has THE best atmosphere of all the games I've played
- Witcher - this might be just European thing, but playing especially W1 felt kind of like folklore fairy tale from childhood turned into pretty grim adult game
- Disco Elysium - this is probably the only "sort of new" game that I've played and which definitely deserves a place in the list, great characters, amazing story and writingthere are plenty of others too, but my brain farts
