Even if it doesn’t work, I’d at least want to let people try and get practice doing something about a problem (even if that’s just leaving a comment on social media to direct others to sign a petition that will eventually get lawmakers’ attention with enough signatures based on that country’s laws, because that still has more chance for good than yet another comment about X Thing Bad. Even though I agree with a lot of Lemmy’s X Thing Bad takes), makes them more likely to do something in the future. At least they can walk away saying “I tried”. Some people might see no guarantee of results for their time and think of it as time wasted, and that is their choice, but I don’t really see a reason to say “that’ll never work” without any offer of alternative. Most charitably, you are trying to save them time and disappointment and “it didn’t work, activism does not work, I’ll never do anything like that again”, but I think a lot of people are just seeing the comment as pointless negativity.
- Comment on WalkScape's (RuneScape inspired fitness MMORPG) developer here, we've now released support for smartwatches on iOS & a lot of new content, and we are accepting new players to the Closed Beta! 2 days ago:
I heard about this on Reddit, glad to see it has made its way to the Fediverse. I am curious what you are using to develop this, since I’ve also been interested in making my own personal walking app (not going to be competition, only ever intended to release to myself and maybe a few friends).
- Comment on What games are just objective master pieces? 4 days ago:
Curious to hear what the criteria for “masterpiece” is, otherwise I think it is just peoples’ subjective opinion of what makes a great game that they also think others might agree about being a great game. Genuinely curious, interested in discussion, not saying this to shut down any of the answers here.

!crpg@lemmy.world would like this too. Glad to see more Fediverse devs! Might check this game out.

- Comment on Catchiest video game song? 1 week ago:
I feel like the association of Portal with that era and that type of person, even though I think most of them probably became different people with age, makes the song a little harder to enjoy. Sorry to the composer, it is not your fault. Similarly, I think maybe the same thing happened with Undertale. I think I played before the fandom got a bad reputation, so it and its songs are not quite tainted in my mind, but if I came in after I saw the fandom, I might like the work less through no fault of the composer.

I also see posts about it often on !games@lemmy.world, although admittedly I don’t pay attention to the usernames of the people who make those posts, or the usernames of the people commenting. But I’d doubt the comments are all just @Cethin talking to themselves ;)

Eh, I wouldn’t say even mindless fun is easy, from what I hear game dev is hard and a lot of effort and hard work can still end up in something unfun. Probably not your intention but I don’t want to devalue the efforts of people who probably want to make something to help other people enjoy a bit, that I probably don’t have the skill to make myself.
- Comment on Smaller gaming channels 2 weeks ago:
I am lucky I was able to give you what I did. Not a big video watcher. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. If you wanted RTS and >1 million subs specifically you might have wanted to put that in the post body ;) unless the >1 million subs thing is a common colloquial definition of “small channel” that I just missed out on.
- Comment on Sony considers further price rises, as it braces for £500m tariffs impact 2 weeks ago:
It’s possible to be dismayed at price raises that don’t affect you. I was never in the market for a console, but I am sure that this will sadden others who find themselves priced out.

I’ve never had trouble with touch screen D-pads ^^; again part of the problem I suppose, because it seems by your post people hate the things I’m genuinely satisfied with. I hope the general controller-liking population gets things to serve their needs too, though.

Did not know Tillamook was employee-owned. Their ice cream is great, now I have a reason to prioritize buying from them.
- Comment on Smaller gaming channels 3 weeks ago:
Not sure what qualifies as small-medium. I have appreciated Let’s Game It Out (6.02M subs), ymfah (1.19M subs), Tech Rules (432K subs), MartSnacks (80.1K subs). All focusing on cool gaming content, no being A YouTube Personality who shows their face and tries to form a parasocial relationship with you.

I’m probably part of the problem. I’ve never used a controller except a few times at friends’ houses. I grew up with Nintendo DS, Wii, PC, and smartphone games. I don’t want to ever have to pick up a controller.

As a !pokemon@lemm.ee fan I didn’t buy for these reasons but that doesn’t stop hordes of parents or certain fans from buying anyways. If they’re happy, I guess… meanwhile I’ll be fine as long as they don’t go after ROM hacks.

I don’t give a crap about Overwatch but I am happy for the devs and hope this leads to more unionization in the video game industry.

I read your comment less as critique and more as “fucking fans who like Pokémon” but I have a history of confusing harsh tone for a negative “you can’t like this thing, because I think there is too much of it” attitude. Sorry if I misinterpreted you.
- Comment on Would you like to see a mainline Pokemon game created in the old style? 3 weeks ago:
Huge preferrer of 2D here, will admit the size variations made possible with 3D is a point in their favor for me.
- Comment on Would you like to see a mainline Pokemon game created in the old style? 3 weeks ago:
Nope, but fans would like one. If you don’t want one I don’t see what the problem is if you just disengage from the series.

In general, Pokémon ROM hacks are cool and fans of the 2D or old game style like me should definitely give these more attention.

Took me a little to realize Marcus was autocorrected Arceus. Pokémon Marcus sounds amusing.

Absolutely yes. I much prefer the 2D Pokémon artstyle to the 3D models.

- Comment on This game has 100 endings, and it's pushing the creators to the brink of bankruptcy | PC Gamer 3 weeks ago:
I’d imagine people who are really into “Choices Matter” and some people who are really into story would.
I play !visualnovels@ani.social and half the fun is seeing what decisions lead to different outcomes. And getting different outcomes for different choices, especially if they are big choices, makes me feel like my choices matter and impact the world, as opposed to if all these supposedly important choices can only ever get me 2 or 3 different endings.
Although I do share your question about how popular my opinion is with other gamers.
