No I assume they’re all AAA - sp and live service.
And I don’t have any delusions about them not doing this for sp as well. Hence the comment about how shitty the industry is in general.
I just think games that call themselves live service aren’t games. (Not multiplayer games that also happen to be live service)
- Comment on New ‘Marathon’ Info: Bungie Morale, Launch Worries And Changing Plans 4 hours ago:
I don’t know of the statistics, so yes, I can’t say for sure sp employs more people than live service. But in my opinion live service games are more risky and harmful to the industry as a hole.
But my original comment was about how it doesn’t matter if they created jobs or not because they are trying to replace everyone with AI. Coders, designers, artists… So it doesn’t matter sp or live service. They want to not employ anyone and run casinos
- Comment on New ‘Marathon’ Info: Bungie Morale, Launch Worries And Changing Plans 14 hours ago:
Ahh sorry, I didn’t see the comment earlier.
Yes, imo live service games are very bad for the people who buy them and the people making it.
They are only there to make cash. And they make this cash through terrible predatory monetization - loot boxes, microtransactions, season passes. These companies actually want to run casinos that target the most vulnerable and children. You can argue that people wouldn’t want to work on this if they had a choice.
There’s almost always very little artistic value.
At least with sp AAA, you can gain a cult following if you have an interesting gameplay, or story. what are you doing with a live service one? Nothing, just offering the same thing that someone else has already created in another flavour, just to chase a trend. What this means is that they’re more likely to fail and not for the fault of the devs for sure.
They’re also bad for preservation of games. All live service games die, you can’t play them once support ends. You paid 60 dollars to rent a game? (Though I suppose that’s true with sp always online games as well and it’s not directly a bad thing for the dev)
Though… you maybe sort of right, the Industry is so bad right now that it doesn’t even matter whether you are working on sp or live service, you are in some sort of hell regardless…

If you are not neurotypical, especially if ADHD and/or ASD are involved, you’re not and never will be “like other people”.
I try and remind myself about this. But It fucking sucks that some people diagnose themselves with ADHD, but have no problems doing stuff. Then I have to fight my mind and not compare myself to other people. Irl, I guess you just have to suck up, I remember my boss telling me I was a disappointment compared to my colleagues. People suck.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Oh okay, I didn’t know about this. I will check this out in detail.
If, like many with ADHD including myself (this was a fun thing to become aware of well into adulthood), you are not super comfortable with your emotions and/or have alexithymia (trouble identifying, describing, and expressing ones own emotions), it could be useful to find an emotion wheel or feelings wheel.
I think I understand my feelings most of the time, but I do have difficulty controlling them.
I have had trouble explaining why I can’t sometimes work for more than 15-20 minutes, but I’ve always attributed that to stress anxiety. Like my body and brain just stop and refuse to work all together untill I shake that feeling off.
Thanks for the very comprehensive answer internet stranger, I appreciate it. The feeling wheel and DBT are something I’ll check out.

How do you manage between difficult and simple tasks? And Do you do the simple items first or the tough ones?
I’ve found myself of two minds about this.
Completing smaller simpler tasks feels fulfilling in that moment and helps boost productivity but doesn’t feel so good from a broader look back at them.
Whereas finishing difficult tasks feels really good but they can sometimes keep going on and on and on and feel never ending. They might take up a whole day and in that I might miss the small tasks.
Thanks for your reply.

Any advice on how to do work like other people? I am quick to grab my phone everytime I get even slightly stressed or don’t immediately know the answer to a problem.
And it takes a lot of time for me to do something, it takes other very little (at least compared to me). Any advice on that?

The funny thing is, I’ve heard about quite a few Indie studios that are just as bad. They do the very same thing we condemn AAA for - crunch, micromanaging and even harrasment.
I was very surprised to hear the person who lead the development on monument valley turned out to be a big dick to his employees.
So, I can totally understand the cultural success thing. Though I’d like to believe that we are better than the corporate management suite, I have to remind myself that anyone can be a dick. You can be a progressive left leaning animal lover and still be a horrible parent. This was a hard lesson for me.
I have worked only in the indie/AA sphere, and my experience here hasn’t been all that great either. But, I always believed the problem was in the work culture of my country itself, and that I would probably find it better to work with those outside my country. No, people are the same everywhere, just of different flavours.
Though I’d still prefer to work with like minded people vs those believe capital over everything else.

At the risk of being a negetive nancy, they haven’t done this with crew 1. So that game is still dead. This might just be a perfunctory action to quell support for the movement. They haven’t made any real promises to have EOL plans for all their games.(As far as I’ve seen)

Brazil is super diverse to be fair. And it’s one the largest countries on the planet.
I like what Gusteau from ratatouille has to say about this - “Anyone can be a facist, but only the stupidest can be great at it”
Also Anton’s “Not everyone can become a great facist, but a great facist can come from anywhere”

No, please don’t sign if you are American. That can harm the petition with false signatures.
This is strictly ONLY for European union citizens!

Hijacking.
Are you European? Do you like games?
Do you want to own games again? and not just “License” them? Then please join the Stop destroying Videogames Initiative.
Initiative - citizens-initiative.europa.eu/…/000007_en
It’s an initiative to get the European parliament to discuss the matter all together, and Iirc, it already has some members that support it. (So It’s not just any ordinary petition that will go nowhere.)
We have already collected 42% of the 1 million signatures from European citizens required. But the deadline is June 2025 and if we don’t get enough signatures by then, it won’t be looked at by the European commission. So to at least get the matter to be discussed, please sign!
(ONLY FOR European Union citizens! No Brits! there’s another initiative for the UK.)

Same. It was my games festival. Though it was too corporatey, it was the one delightful part of the year where I could get excited about the most insignificant and significant announcements. And how could you forget the vague, CGI trailers that always overpromised.
The hype was real.
Why don’t gamescon or gamesaward feel this way?

It’s not some fucking witch hunt. He’s a pretentious asshole, who thinks he is better than everyone else.
And yes people can have their own opinions, but he misrepresented the goals of the petition on purpose. Then he refused to debate it with someone (who knows what the petition was actually about) on live when called out.
He has no balls or mana.
