- Comment on WTF is a rural town in the USA? 12 hours ago:
On paper sure they are villages, but I think a US village and one from elsewhere would likely feel drastically different. Lacking actual community (see Bowling Alone), or just look at the decay of it: all of the things that the village lost (shops, train station, industry etc) and what it still has(franchise dollar store, gas station etc).
It could just be coincidence, though “retirement village” is a term (also ecovillages) so maybe not. Aside from decay, I’d imagine the common perspective of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it (unless you stop for gas/maybe breakfast) probably doesn’t help with image either.

Similar here. I rarely dream (and typically not very vividly even when so). It could be because my sleep quality is poor (sleep stages likely impacted due to autonomic issues, and it’s possible that I need something like CPAP) then again I also have aphantasia.

The opposite: “I remember as a child: I used to sleep. … But not anymore. In fact, I don’t even dream. What am I talking about‽ I don’t even sleep!”

I don’t see the jump from “I have problems socializing/functioning” to “I am special/nobody else has these problems”. I mentioned the first comment because
thanks for letting me try with you
seems like a fairly healthy/wholesome expressed thought.
Also yeah maybe both users are just-a-bit-on-the-spectrum and they probably know it. Does that change something, are they too common to express themselves? Shut up and get better or that’s-a-you-problem?
- Comment on Feel this 1 week ago:
???
This is an odd sticking point (same with another comment), it doesn’t even seem relevant to either thought (especially the first) other than it being asserted already by the inclusion of the comic.
Maybe not-special is true or maybe differences can brushed aside, but either way these thoughts are likely conclusions from their lived experiences and even a nice interpretation of the comic seems more like a cold comfort that doesn’t change much going forward. It probably has more impact if someone does live in/near a big city (particularly a place like Portland), but that is a bit of a leap to assume.

Side 1, pointing at brain: Ah, see there’s something wrong with the firmware here, or maybe it’s a hardware issue. Unclear if it’s even an error (it may serve some purpose), but it does negatively impact living. Made even worse by recall-worthy issues outside of the brain.
Side 2: Despite (or perhaps because of) my shortcomings I am very human, I know I am just another multi-cellular organism. But it does not matter. Nothing valued is here, I cannot go elsewhere.
Side 3: Yeah, I lack public transportation or things that come with it (I’m in a sparse area).

This would require both the air and surface to be free of dust. Maybe in a lab that could be true, but probably not in the real world.

I think so, but that’s also has massive tradeoffs on its own. If I did that, it was probably mostly Robot w/Ser Junkan runs.
I probably would prefer a mod that makes active items only show up in shops (or perhaps chosen selection/loot-table at the start or per-character). Also: have the RR leave junk when taking some items (not ammo).
I do see one mod (Justice) to alter spawning which would probably help a bit (depending on the character, still not perfect early on). Plus I have other games to be bad at, many of the free (and slightly less frustrating).

It’s not guaranteed to get anything of value before you hit the boss. There aren’t many chests, active items are often highly situational and you may be forced to abandon it. This may be expected/intended and I may even be able to beat the boss anyway, but it’s more tedious.
Very likely that keys and blanks (both multi-functional), more chests, or money don’t drop enough. This already means waiting on making some choices before the floor is cleared (despite this not being the best/easiest option for survival) especially when it comes to the alternate path.

I stopped playing it particularly because of the 1st-floor experience with items/loot (and active items in general).
Then again, these sort of problems for me seem to run through games (especially roguelikes) often.
- Comment on What art style you want to reproduce? 1 month ago:
Vector/polygonal, truly implemented for the technical benefits* and likely untextured**. Which will make it more niche than the early 3D stuff that did use vertex colors.
3D polygonal+vertex color actually isn’t that difficult to do. I’ve done some, the real issue (aside from making it good) is actually the animation/game around it. I haven’t done much and continue not doing much because personal stuff.
* less data while also rendering at native res without needing extra work (8K or even on a 50ft Billboard? Sure). MIDI (you can use higher-quality soundfonts) or other procedural stuff (sounds, textures) are nice too.
** I’m not against not-too-many general-use textures, but I tried this without mapping (including watercolor) and wasn’t really happy with the results… plus normal maps won’t work with per-vertex materials¯. So this probably takes a lot of effort/skill to work as-intended.
¯ not strictly necessary, but I don’t mind the idea aesthetically and a free optimization sounds nice even though this aesthetic is already a low bar (unless it could help with webGL, mobile, VR, or really old devices etc?)

Generally, I feel like it depends on how viable it seems to fix. Is this the same issue that people marched about 50+ years ago?
Specific elephant in the room, what possible fix within 2-4 decades is there when the right has most of the keys including a stacked supreme court?
Personally, I can’t really fight or leave. I am nowhere close to anything politically relevant… I have no transportation, income, or ID/passport etc. I am a shut-in with untreated health issues. I’m just letting the days go by.
- Comment on The gentrified forest near me removed the bins. .. From their café/picnic area 2 months ago:
I looked it up and they seem to still have them in train stations plus in areas where trash/recyclables is expected to be generated (convenience stores, vending machines, parks) so it seems like a bit of a stretch (also the reason for less trash cans also being a 1995 sarin gas attack).
Even just the train station bit seems like an unfair comparison for places without any sort of public transportation (where people walked/biked from home). Yeah, I can see people being more likely to hold their trash if passing receptacles is part of their planned route.

- Comment on If any external factor made you create art, would your art be created by that factor? 2 months ago:
It’s called being cultured, like cheese. Though art is a bit different as whatever shapes you does so long-term, even if you could zap away issues instantly the memory and thus influence will still be there.
Also health/brain issues for me are likely a bigger detriment than anything, resulting in me doing nothing most of the time (small chores on a good day). So anything created is a rare win in spite of that.
- Comment on gigachad 2 months ago:
More than cool, add in other enhancements and most 3D games don’t need a remaster that will most likely be bloated data-wise.
Particularly when it comes to vertex colors (see Spyro’s skyboxes) rendering at modern res immaculately, upselling into photorealism is just throwing out the smartest and most unique thing the game had.

As someone untreated (and shut-in), the grass isn’t green here either. I don’t know what the here-and-now alternative is, especially as a well-understood and very-effective med that can be taken irregularly is probably an exception rather than the norm (esp. for something serious/underlying).
I take more issue with the cost and hoops of the US health-insurance system (+other stuff like transportation). It’s a failure even by “pick two” standards… if it’s “you try this first” or 4 appointments for testing/specialists before one step is made it would be much better if bureaucracy weren’t also an issue.
Specifically with the gov’t imploding now (and the impending rug pull) I’m not sure what I could ever do unless there was a real change someone will let me be a test subject for physical brain preservation (and they’d move my brain some other not-imploding country).
