I actually was going to say something like that but got bored with it. I’d rather watch NWAR again for the detective puns.

The name’s Diff… Diff Fective.
You think I’m Abe Normal? No, but I have a lot of respect for them, really pushing the meta strategy further than ever.

- Comment on Have you tried coping harder? 2 weeks ago:
As someone untreated (and shut-in), the grass isn’t green here either. I don’t know what the here-and-now alternative is, especially as a well-understood and very-effective med that can be taken irregularly is probably an exception rather than the norm (esp. for something serious/underlying).
I take more issue with the cost and hoops of the US health-insurance system (+other stuff like transportation). It’s a failure even by “pick two” standards… if it’s “you try this first” or 4 appointments for testing/specialists before one step is made it would be much better if bureaucracy weren’t also an issue.
Specifically with the gov’t imploding now (and the impending rug pull) I’m not sure what I could ever do unless there was a real change someone will let me be a test subject for physical brain preservation (and they’d move my brain some other not-imploding country).

Go into a local field and tame a wild horse??? Probably healthier that way anyways (all-natural, soul-bond)
- Comment on Have you tried coping harder? 2 weeks ago:
But did you know that women who own horses are likely to live on average 15 years longer than women who do not own horses? Why wouldn’t people get a majestic car-sized animal to improve their well-being, are they stupid?
- Comment on Anon is 33 2 weeks ago:
The last 2 lines of the text make it sound like bait if the 6-figure thing wasn’t a joke (otherwise, delusional). Depression likely, if not other health issues that led to this.
I am not quite as bad as the text but for me: parents are doing their own thing (these days, computer time), almost as isolated as I am.
It probably helps that I do tasks for them (mostly sweeping, unloading dishwasher/garbage, carrying firewood etc). Not that I can do much given that I, much like they (who are anti-doctor), have untreated health issues. Seemingly is enough they don’t threaten to kick me out (though maybe they know that I would just leave with no place to go, and likely die).
Also it was unlikely in car-centric areas of the USA as-it-was
but I don’t think there’s hard-working out of this after medicaid is gutted (not that was even an easily accessible path before). Maybe anon can lose 50 pounds, get a hobby, and leave the house a few times a month when the weather is nice… but probably not getting a job/moving out with no help while the government implodes and normal people were already struggling to pay bills.
- Comment on Bill proposed to outlaw downloading Chinese AI models. 2 weeks ago:
I lost interest enough to delete the models I had before and this headline made me look into deepseek.
Though this seems to have traded compute for data, so I don’t have the VRAM for it… even running through RAM, I don’t feel like downloading a lesser version with my slow-ish internet.

I’m thinking more of a voluntary program.
That shadowm’n on her 1am walk is gonna get away if I’m with her and she ices me right there in the park 🫠 she’s allowed to do it. It happens all the time…
- Comment on Can we stop asking people who are on the brink of death and suffering greatly to sacrifice themselves for a bunch of able bodied people who refuse to stand up and sacrifice themselves for us? 3 weeks ago:
My more immediate thought is that most people couldn’t even get within 100 miles, and this says nothing of training/planning etc. “why doesn’t somebody do something” is probably just wish fulfillment by others who feel powerless to do anything about it.

- Comment on Vibes based cooking 5 weeks ago:
According to the label? I just checked most of it (GV, McCormick) has no info whatsoever.
The exceptions are spice mixes (rotisserie chicken, old bay) and a single expired bottle of Durkee celery seed (maybe their other spices are like this, but afaik this is the only one we have).
Best I can do is try different spices when sautéing vegetables.

…nooooh, that’s too cynical.
- Comment on What's the deal with male loneliness? 1 month ago:
In fact, those same pastimes are still available today.
That is glossing over a lot of context, a big one being that club membership is down (that’s a big point of Bowling Alone). I would not be surprised if many clubs relocated or shut down due to low membership, especially after raising membership fees. Or y’know that they were already a middleclass thing, thus canaries.
Pubs are also going to rely on prices, but the most social ones likely are accessible by free public transit or are located in a walkable/mixed-use area (particularly cities designed before+not-bulldozed-for cars).
I don’t think this is about awareness, especially when most people have less friends and less (or no) social engagement.
- Comment on What's the deal with male loneliness? 1 month ago:
See Bowling Alone.
Personally (and from a US shut-in perspective!) I’d take it further: the social contract is broken. When society has been molded to almost exclusively generate money, the closest to winning there is when you’re broke is trying to spend the least amount of money possible which surely will be solitaire confinement.
I don’t think there’s any easy fix, moving to a better area is an individual thing yet is also the core issue when it comes to transportation+rent+cost-of-living.

I am similar, though for me I’d say it’s more of a personality disorder (SzPD) which also makes socialization a dilemma (it’s a term). Though I live somewhere without much to do (+no public transportation), particularly because I have no interest in driving.
Though I lack skills/money, plus have untreated health issues and likely depression.

- Comment on What video game company/developer/publisher loves shitting on it's fans? 2 months ago:
Nintendo has increasingly become a problem over the last decade
Of the other related videos, one by Knowledge Husk (7FWyhlS3kvc) points to the CEOs being an issue and that they just had one (1) good CEO: Iwata (particularly because he was a computer scientist who was pro-consumer).
Now I doubt Nintendo was fully non-evil in 2002-2015 (considering Nintendo actions with 2010s-era Youtube) but I’m sure it was probably the better side of Nintendo.

Nintendo.
Not just crushing fan games, but also issues with the Smash bros community, pricing and availability, eshops shutting down (+needing to buy those games again on new consoles or it’s not even available at start), stick drift, fan content policy, also Youtube strikes/claims (both newer for specific reasons and an entire era for let’s plays in general). 20 years of content removed from Gmod.
And no this isn’t about Japanese law, they choose to be this way.

I check a lot of those boxes but have never had many points on most websites. The difference I think is that I don’t often make posts/threads (comments alone usually don’t get as many views/points, posts may get thousands of points).
Those with the most points often make posts multiple times an hour (often a dozen posts in a day) particularly if they become “known” for some theme/gimmick (which may add to ego). Also at that point they likely have parasocial users backing up their ego and buffoonery.
I don’t know if any of those “no life” people are behind this or not. I suspect people posting like this, especially when it is blog-like (their job, some other interaction) are likely normal outgoing people who just have their phone with them to post whenever they have a spare moment. It may even be a similar archetype to “influencer” (one unlikely to show their face) especially if they are saving many things ahead of time to post later. That, and the inevitable monetization even if it’s just gifts/favors from strangers.

Just to add, there seems to be some issue with thumbnails on
.cafe
, from the admin:Yes, there’s clearly some problem with the change introduced in lemmy 0.19.7 where thumbnail generation was changed to force a smaller size (and potentially something else). Still not entirely sure which part - lemmy or pict-rs - is misbehaving, but working on both fronts trying to find the culprit. Nothing so far, unfortunately
