I figure we have to have some angels to balance out the demons that end up in positions of prominence in our societies.

Having known several healthcare workers with PTSD from the pandemic I strongly disagree.
Granted the pandemic was traumatizing for people from all walks of life but I don’t envy hospital based nurses or doctors from that time.
It was so painful for nurses that many quit and we still have a nursing shortage today and likely for the next decade as a result.

Sure but the scale and recency of colonialism certainly leaves a bad taste in many people’s mouths, even the descendants of colonists.
- Comment on Anon is waiting for Japan 1 week ago:
Western tech had a massive head start.
When a country’s tech manufacturing is being developed it’s going to start by making what already exists because… it has to start somewhere.
It didn’t take long for Japanese cars to supersede American cars. China is now doing the same to both American and Japanese cars. Nissan nearly went out of business and is still ib trouble. Tesla’s situation isn’t helped by how dislikable its founder is so its value is plumetting.
Most countries don’t know how to deal with the advent Chinese EVs so they’re just slapping massive tariffs on them and hoping they figure something out in the meantime.
It isn’t just going to stop at Japan and China though. Japan was subsidized by the US post WW2 and China built its manufacturing from the ground up. There are many other countries on that path which will lead to significant global competition. The West is going to have to keep its head up if it wants to remain competitive by the end of the century.

Depends on how the game is optimized. For example I get minimal performance enhancement in GTA 5 enhnaced but in Wircher 3 its a solid 20 to 30 fps improvement.

Many Americans do not care. Brains have been rotted by their social media and “anti-woke” identity politics so critical thinking has been wiped out. They’ll pay more and find a way to not blame it on Trump.
- Comment on Tried to order a part before the tariffs 4 weeks ago:
Trump administration says fentanyl though very little moves across the Canadian border. They’re using it to declare a national emergency and therefore bypass Congress.
From Canada’s perspective it’s to weaken Canada’s perspective it’s to weaken the Canadian economy so that it’s easier to annex.
- Comment on Why do i see so many americans obsessed with the concept of "this is a thing that [Ethnicity] does" 4 weeks ago:
US compartmentalizes based on race. It’s apparent in essentially all of the media they export to the rest of the world.

- Comment on Why do most Americans use an iPhone? 5 weeks ago:
Eh you can achieve similar or greater privacy on a Android phone simply because it’s not locked down in the way an iPhone is.
- Comment on Why do most Americans use an iPhone? 5 weeks ago:
Surely that’s not a uniquely American phenomenon.
- Comment on Why do most Americans use an iPhone? 5 weeks ago:
They used to innovate, no doubt. But their products provide absolutely terrible value now. Great resale, sure. But you’re overpaying 20-30% for the hardware you’re getting which is not the case on the Android side. The only thing iPhone universally does better is 1) video and 2) ecosystem (if all your products are Apple). The rest is tomaeto vs tomahto situation.

So the only people going to the Dunkin’s in the office building are office workers. If we don’t go back, that Dunkin’s could go out of business. Is that something we can really allow on our collective conscience?

Good thing empires never fall, right?
- Comment on Anon thinks the French are posers 4 months ago:
We generally attribute discoveries to whoever documented it first. It’s almost laughably eurocentric to attribute it to the French based on a kissing style that was widespread there in 1923. Surely people were doing this before then.
It’s not an unreasonable assumption that people were doing this before ancient India but then the question should be why didn’t the ancient Babylonians, Egyptians, Chinese, Roman’s and Greek document on it then?
