I think it’s different than you describe since they own the publisher(s) and the distribution as well. This is no different than some famous examples like movie studios buying theaters and only showing their movies or Microsoft forcing people to use Internet Explorer. The quality of journalism should be irrelevant since the law is supposed to apply equally. Your example of Twitter killing journalism is different since they have no association with those other companies.
I agree the industry is eroding but I think that has more to do with the internet as a whole and people not wanting to pay and less to do with regulations. This situation can’t help the industry if it’s killing off a bunch of companies since they can’t get fair representation on a major platform like reddit. That just leads to further consolidation and more of what we’re currently dealing with.

Perhaps if we get a sane and effective government one of these decades, they can open an anti-trust investigation into Conde Nast considering they’re using their monopoly to give an unfair advantage to their own companies using your very example.

SiriusXM is now buying up a ton of popular podcasts and locking new episodes behind a completely separate membership from my Spotify subscription, so my feed is filling with a bunch of locked episodes. They’ve found a way to torture everyone not just those people who tried a free trial (or were given one after buying a car).

And now they’re showing locked episodes, which drives me up the fucking wall. Seems to only be with all the podcasts that SirusXM is buying up as of late, which unfortunately make up a good chunk of what I listen to.
- Comment on From 4chan to the White House: James Ball explains how failing to take games seriously has fed the populist right 1 month ago:
I’d argue that this is a symptom, not the cause.
The real issue is that these guys are what most people would call “losers” who sit at home, isolated, playing video games and browsing the internet all day. The right noticed this and targeted them specifically with a bunch of propaganda telling them that it’s not their fault they’re losers, it’s the fault of the left, women, and immigrants.
I used to game with two guys who fall into this category, and over time, their language got more harsh and militant until I couldn’t take it anymore. They always had someone to blame like “SJWs” for their own personal decision to sit at home all day rather than work on their shortcomings. They expected attractive women to want then even though they’d do absolutely nothing to make themselves attractive to others. They’d have wild opinions on far-flung groups that they never actually interacted with personally since they’d cut themselves off from the real world. I saw Steve Bannon’s tactics playing out in real time in their words.

- Comment on Lithium-ion battery waste fires are increasing, and vapes are a big part of it 2 months ago:
Imagine that, your previous images were pulled from an article claiming these are being sold in Thailand by Chinese companies just like I thought, so your argument is that vapes should be banned in the US because of what may or may not be happening in Thailand?
or the illusion that your country is the only one in the world.
How convenient for you and your argument since that means you only need to find one example of a bad thing happening in the world and can then apply that bad example to millions of other unrelated products sold elsewhere in the world. What happened to your argument claiming that these were being stopped by US Customs? That so quickly morphed into “it doesn’t matter if these products were actually shipped and sold here because Thailand!”
Your other article, from the rag that is the Daily Mail, claims that Squid Games is a children’s TV show, and only lists one western company receiving a notice (which they incorrectly called a “Canadian” company rather than a California based company in true Daily Mail fashion) for having a vape that resembles a banana. How convincing since we all know how crazy and insaitiable children get when they see something that slightly resembles a banana. They gotta have it!
I’m not going to discuss …
Didn’t you already say that when you claimed you “didn’t get those images from a quick Google search” and “wouldn’t bother to verify the legitimacy of these products” even though you just now claimed to do a quick Google search to find the very articles that your images came from? Why such inconsistencies?
- Comment on Lithium-ion battery waste fires are increasing, and vapes are a big part of it 2 months ago:
You aren’t going to look for them because you just grabbed whatever image you found from a Google search and have no clue what you’re even talking about.
If these even exist, the only reason why a black market would exist for vapes is because of the idiotic bans that created it by killing the legitimate market further proving my point. Furthermore your argument that they’re “stopped at customs” contradicts your previous argument that they’re being marketed and sold to kids since they aren’t being sold at all.
- Comment on Lithium-ion battery waste fires are increasing, and vapes are a big part of it 2 months ago:
How convenient that none of the manufacturer or product names are listed for any of these devices except the “Moti Pop” which appears to be a black market disposable from China. It’s almost as if someone just either fabricated a bunch of items or cherry picked a bunch of already illegal devices in order to push the FUD angle. Can you provide any listings or images showing that any of these were ever sold in a vape shop anywhere in the western world because I’ve been vaping for 13 years now and have never once seen anything even remotely resembling anything like these sold in any store. It’s just more bullshit propaganda.
- Comment on Lithium-ion battery waste fires are increasing, and vapes are a big part of it 2 months ago:
This is literally the argument they used and it’s complete bullshit propaganda. Can you elaborate in detail on what makes it “toy shaped?” Do you consume fruit and or fruit-flavored things as an adult? I’m surprised you didn’t also mention “bright colors” as another draw being so appealing to children as well. I guess I never got the memo as an adult that I should only be consuming and enjoying drab colored, unflavored oatmeal for all my meals as color and flavor are no longer appealing to me.
I suppose I should be forced to smoke cancer-causing cigarettes produced by big tobacco for my crime of enjoying nicotine and flavors as an adult all so some shitty parents can be absolved of their duty as parents. While we’re at it let’s also ban things like D&D and rock music because those lure children into worshipping the devil which leads to things like talking back and human sacrifice.
- Comment on Lithium-ion battery waste fires are increasing, and vapes are a big part of it 2 months ago:
I’ve been vaping since around 2012 and ran through a ton of disappointing eGo clones and mods and got a GeekVape Zeus about a year or two ago and it’s been rock solid. It is a dual battery but that just means it lasts a day or more depending on how often you’re using it.
- Comment on Lithium-ion battery waste fires are increasing, and vapes are a big part of it 2 months ago:
They literally only exist because of all the government regulations that decimated the industry “because of the children.”

- Comment on The gentrified forest near me removed the bins. .. From their café/picnic area 2 months ago:
I can see taking things that I brought with me like granola bar wrappers and water bottles, but if you have a cafe selling cheeseburgers, fountain drinks, and coffee, it seems dumb to expect people to carry all that home rather than allowing them to throw it away at the same place they bought and consumed it.
