This is honestly the part I’m a little wary about.
We live together, and like any people who live together and any relationship, there’s tension from time to time. Will a morning argument about the dishes not being put away spill over to work?
And conversely, there are tensions in any workplace, and things go wrong at work. Will work tensions spill over into our home life?

Okay, Aussie Zone brains trust, I’ve got an interesting dilemma for you.
So a bit of background. My partner works as a sole trader, and does contract work for a number of companies.
One of the companies she works for has had a full time position open up, which involves managing their external contractors.
Being a sold trader works well for her, so she wants to turn it down. She wants to recommend me instead.
It’s a good job. It gas decent pay.
Here’s the tricky part: Were I to get this role, I would be responsible for managing this company’s external contractors, including my partner.
In effect, I would be her “boss” to some extent.
Working with your spouse or partner is always tricky. Let alone being their manager.
Has anyone here worked with someone they’re in a relationship with? What were the pros and cos? Did you disclose your relationship?
Should I take up the role? Or us it not worth tgd hassles?

And hopefully in the next week or so, you should make a full recovery ☺️

Given Mr Peeler kept walking through the living room for a ciggie, in this case it sounds like it wasn’t the smoker who got sicker — it was everyone else!
Anyways, fantastic news that you’re all starting to recover 😊

You think the chat feature is there to help you? Bless your heart!
It’s there because a chat app is cheaper for Woolies than an outsourced call centre. If you give up waiting, that’s good for them.
It’s just another way Colesworths is screwing this country over.

My immediate reaction: “Showcase” him how?
Is this just a LinkedIn post? A video? An article on the company website that’s linked to on LI? Something else?

Very interesting news at work.
You might remember a few weeks ago, I posted here about an acting “manager” in a department I work with a lot at work.
Well, today the “manager’s” boss announced who’s going to be permanently filling that role.
And it’s an external candidate.
The “manager” is moving to a newly-created role leading the sales team.
The woman who currently leads the sales team is not happy about this. As in, visibly pissed off about basically being demoted so “manager” can have a job.

It’s still around, barely: wendysmilkbar.com
There was still one at Eastland last I checked, as well as Parramatta in Sydney.
There were also stores in Chirnside Park, Waverley Gardens, and Cranbourne, but I’m not sure if those ones are still open?

It’s not much of a silver lining, but you’ve just won any argument that happens in the next six months or so.
“Yeah, well you gave the kids covid by walking through the bloody living room every five minutes!”

Is he at least wearing a mask or doing anything to cover his face while he’s in the living room?! Or at the very least waiting until everyone has left the room?!

Our Miss Mimi is especially fussy.
There’s particular varieties of particular cat food brands that she’ll eat.
But if you give her the wrong one, she’ll just look at you as if to say: “Excuse me servant, send this one back to the kitchen! Haven’t we already been over this before?! This is not the tuna I like!” 😾

My partner seriously freaked out when she lost her sense of taste and smell. But thankfully it returned (allbeit slowly) over the following weeks.

Oh that’s no fun — poor thing 😔😷
I remember a couple of months back when my partner had covid, it was a logistical nightmare.
She got the bedroom, I got the living room and slept on the couch.
We both wore masks if we had to be in the same room for any reason.
And then one day I gave her a bowl of soup and she managed to spill it all over the bed. (Thank heaven for mattress protectors!)
Making the bed while wearing gloves and a mask is not an experience I’m keen to repeat anytime soon!
The good news is she started getting better after a week or so. And had completely recovered after a month.
She first noticed her sense of smell was returning while walking past some smokers in front of Woolies.
“Do you smell that? Wait — I can smell that! I can smell the smokers!” I don’t think I’ve ever seen a nonsmoker so overjoyed at the smell of cigarette smoke! 😆
Anyway wishing Mr Peeler a speedy recovery. Yeah, it’ll be tough, but hopefully he’ll be feeling better in a week or two. Take care 💜

Just last week, John Quiggin released a book on pretty much this exact topic, called “After Neoliberalism”.
You can download the eBook for free, or order a printed copy here: press.anu.edu.au/…/after-neoliberalism
If you’re interested in an in-depth look at the economic and government policies that erosion of the middle class happened, it’s worth a read.

Restaurant reservation made for next Sunday, flowers sorted.
I mentioned to wifey not to make plans for next Sunday.
“What’s happening next Sunday?” she asked, then looked it up.
I think she’d forgotten, and took it as a less at hand subtle hint 😂

Yeah, my partner gently teases me about it.
I’m generally okay with heights. Like, I can be outon the balcony of a 20th story building, no worries.
But. There’s no way you’ll find me above the second- or third-top rung of a ladder.
(There’s only one handywoman in our house, and it’s definitely not me 😆).

A few more thoughts from someone who’s of an age where it’s no-longer polite to ask how old I am. (Let’s just say some of the songs I listened to in high school now play on Gold 104 🫢)
Anyway.
The job you start out in won’t be your forever job.
And there’s a good chance the industry you start in won’t be the same one you retire in.
Lots of people start in one industry and then later go back to TAFE or uni. Or decide to start a business. Or end up working in a profession that’s different to the one they studied for.
I’ve done it, and so have plenty of other people.
Say you start off as a teacher, and decide after a few years that it’s not for you.
Well, chances are there’s a lot of soft skills that you’ll learn from teaching that will be valuable elsewhere.
And don’t worry that you haven’t figured it all out yet. Heavens knows I still haven’t!
