- Comment on what books about personal boundaries do you know that don't mention god? 1 week ago:
Boundaries are deeply tied to one's worldview, values, and understanding of human nature. If you reject the idea of a higher power or divine authority, you must still grapple with the question of why boundaries are important and how to justify them.
If not God or a higher power, then what is the ultimate source of value and authority for setting boundaries? Is it simply a matter of personal preference, cultural norms, or social contracts?
If you rely solely on human reason, empathy, and self-interest, you will struggle to establish a consistent moral framework for setting boundaries. For example:
- Why should you prioritize your own needs and desires over others'?
- How can you justify saying "no" to someone who is making a legitimate request?
- What is the basis for your moral obligation to respect others' boundaries?
Ultimately, your views on boundaries will depend on how you answer these deeper questions.
In this sense, It seems looking to believe in boundaries without faith (or a deeper philosophical commitment) is indeed doomed to fail, not because faith is required, but because our understanding of boundaries relies on faith and trust.
I know it's not a good answer to the question, but Hopefully my deconstruction helps

If the concern is legit, wouldn't it be an ethical practice to not support services that use the problematic TLD?

Holy God I didn't expect the admin of lemmy.zip to chime in.😊 I'm very appreciative of your work, please don't see this as FUD or shade-throwing. I'm just trying to understand and improve my general security practices as best I can.

Well put. Your explanation has me most confident I should avoid lemmy.zip communities for the time being--thx
- Comment on 1 week ago:
Should .zip communities be avoided for this potential confusion or no?
- Comment on 1 week ago:
Excellent explanation. So with this knowledge, should .zip sublemmy/communities be avoided as well or is this excessive for some reason?

Strange to make a gender distinction here. I know people love their categories, but I'm curious to know how your outlook focused on gender rather than other characteristics like race or nationality

You mean people are awful rather than the tech they make?
Craaazy - Comment on These shipping tape things 2 weeks ago:
If you don't have the tape facing the wrong direction, it should work effortlessly. Many fail to understand the razor and plastic shield mechanism that leverages tension to make a clean tear tho. The tape can melt and be tough to use. You could also have a low quality item technically but even cheap ones are fairly manageable for a while

Also what is the actual word that means sue-able? - Comment on How did you decide what you generally wanted to do with your life? 4 weeks ago:
Find what you love and let it kill you.
For me this was philosophy which is the opposite of convenient or helpful especially in our current era. It led to me consistently blundering my way forward but it serving as an initial point is the critical lesson to be learned, I think. - Comment on What would happen if I just drove straight south to Mexico? 5 weeks ago:
I think it means lumpenprole would be a better name lol
You have impressed me yet again tho--if you ever seriously engage with Marx's inspirations, please return with how your views changed on this very core Hegel quote. Until then, I hope you find peace:D

It's a sloppy rework of a Hegel quote--you have my most favorite lemmy comment prole:
I really love the beauty of a prole calling a hegel quote the dumbest thing ever in any context. But if you wanted a serious answer, yes--Doesn't any modern worthwhile philosopher have to engage with Hegel's thought in some dimension?

I 100% believe you about your hardships--I don't deny the truth of any of your very real and serious struggles.
I've only encountered a single trans person irl, and it was a pretty bad experience for me because I was their assigned supervisor that ended up being the one having to deal with a lot of hormonal mood-swings during and after the transition wreaking havoc on team morale. I could let this one bad experience permanently tilt my outlook in much the same way you have with your unfortunate job/boss experiences. It would be emotionally easy and arguably reasonable to do so, but I refuse because I believe staying open-minded is critically important to growth and development.I never said I didn't believe you, I just believe that evil exists only in the eyes that see evil everywhere.
- Comment on What would happen if I just drove straight south to Mexico? 5 weeks ago:
It's exceptionally reasonable, but if you look up to see zebras you're going to feel a bit silly, right? I don't really know what you're getting at, but only because I'm not seeing where specifically you engaged with anything I said
- Comment on What would happen if I just drove straight south to Mexico? 5 weeks ago:
but if that's the usual for non-trans too, do you think maybe the wrong excuses are being targeted?
I really think the whole job structure itself needs a rework personally. The job hunt grind is debilitating emotionally tho--I fully understand the frustration/outrage it induces consistently - Comment on Why democrats under Biden administration didn't release Epstein files? 1 month ago:

I suppose pride in our resilience--there is great potential to learn from our repetitious failures surely - Comment on A slightly different experience 2 months ago:
You mean people (?) let them (boomers) permanently impede progress somehow? I'm not doubting you, just questioning the means and any specifics that can be spelled out
- Comment on A slightly different experience 2 months ago:
Genuinely curious why progress toward a society of similar potential/qualities of the boomer gen is so beyond impossible please help

I'm exaggerating with the explicit 'need' word choice, but a quick glance at the specific dlc reviews of Sims 4, Monster Hunter World, and Destiny 2 should give you an idea of why I dislike the concept. Hell, you couldn't even get a conclusion to one of the assassin's creed narratives without the dlc and I personally find this revolting as someone that loves video games way too much. I know I'm basically just overzealous about the principle of these things, but I really believe we need more people taking more responsibility for the embarrassing precedents we're creating
- Comment on Steam Summer Sale 2025 has begun! 2 months ago:
do you need dlcs for risk of rain 2? I don't really like encouraging stuff like DLC's if avoidable
