- Comment on Do 9-5 jobs still exist in the U.S.? 6 months ago:
Most of my jobs have been 9-5. I work as an ecologist. I’ve also always been hourly, so that’s why my hours are not so broad.
- Comment on Every damn day 6 months ago:
Taking vacations but not telling your boss
- Comment on I this a firm and polite way to tell an opinionated coworker to stop pushing his agenda I don't care about? 7 months ago:
Your ideas are overly aggressive, even just leaving. Just change the topic or say “I’d rather not discuss this at work.”
- Comment on I this a firm and polite way to tell an opinionated coworker to stop pushing his agenda I don't care about? 7 months ago:
lmao I thought for a second this was just your comment about the situation, not your advice on what to say
- Comment on Did Obama Becoming President Make People Hide Their Racism? 7 months ago:
YUP it was really bad, and then half the country turned extra racist, the other half pretended racism was solved because we had a black president.
- Comment on Did Obama Becoming President Make People Hide Their Racism? 7 months ago:
I am talking about national news … remember the Obama sock monkeys?
- Comment on Did Obama Becoming President Make People Hide Their Racism? 7 months ago:
No … I was also around that age and remember all the monkey jokes about Obama. This guy just isn’t paying attention idk lol
- Comment on As someone who is aging. Late thirties. How can I keep my finger on the pulse of current trends, particularly in music? 7 months ago:
An alternative would be pop culture recaps on YouTube lol, I’ve done that during busy months sometimes. I’ve never heard of kick so maybe I’m not as caught up as I thought
- Comment on Why do arranged marriages persist in many cultures? 7 months ago:
Congrats on being racist!
- Comment on As someone who is aging. Late thirties. How can I keep my finger on the pulse of current trends, particularly in music? 7 months ago:
Honestly just keeping up with whatever social media is popular with young people is the best way to stay in touch with new music and pop culture.
- Comment on As someone who is aging. Late thirties. How can I keep my finger on the pulse of current trends, particularly in music? 7 months ago:
Nah, tired advice. I was literally in a remote island for most of a year, and missed out on Harambe and clowns and whatever else happened that year. But if you have a real interest in pop culture you stay in tune. Most older people don’t stay on top of it because they don’t care to, which is fine it’s not for everyone.
- Comment on Does it seem odd to track my lifespan? 7 months ago:
It is essentially the same thing, but that is the cultural box that we’ve created where it’s normal to keep track of your lifespan. A Death Note style reminder is has not been deemed socially acceptable.
- Comment on Does it seem odd to track my lifespan? 7 months ago:
It’s objectively weird in the sense that most people don’t do that.
- Comment on How come liberals dont hate conservatives the way conservatives hate liberals 7 months ago:
there are definitely cringey liberal boomer memes, they’re all on Facebook.
So you feel alone because you want to make cringey boomer memes and send threatening emails to Churches? I’m confused.
There are militant left movements, but there are just fewer people who align themselves with those movements because Communism and Socialism were basically illegal to talk about for decades, and the conservative fascism is basically just our mainstream government ideology (D or R).
- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 7 months ago:
I have read that this is largely a myth, and that while there are varying proportions of amino acids in different vegan protein sources, there is still enough of each so that you could easily get everything you need.
I read this in a book years ago that I don’t remember the name of, but found a source instantly
- Comment on Anon revisits early youtube 7 months ago:
Hm, idk. You have any thoughts? I always heard that YouTube videos are incentivized to be 10+ min for ads.
- Comment on Anon revisits early youtube 7 months ago:
Those are mostly three month old tiktok videos 😅
- Comment on How many songs are about Courtney Love? 7 months ago:
i absolutely hate chatgptsl’s writing style
- Comment on Is there a "canvas" of the universe? Do we even know? Would a canvas follow the same laws as the paint? 7 months ago:
There may not be stupid questions but there are stupid comments.
- Comment on Anon revisits early youtube 7 months ago:
Not really, because you would click an arrow to get to the next website. It didn’t list everything out.
- Comment on Anon revisits early youtube 7 months ago:
People just moved short-form shitposty videos to Vine, then TikTok. YouTube incentivizes long form videos.
- Comment on is there a legal way to consume alcohol bought at a store, outside of a home, hotel room, etc.? 7 months ago:
It’s honestly the same in the US. You can drink a beer in public. I think those laws are probably mostly used to harass homeless people, or selectively enforced at like playgrounds or outside businesses.
- Comment on [deleted] 7 months ago:
This thread is about rich people using philanthropy to seem more palatable.
Your question doesn’t even make sense because it’s not at all true that Bill Gates gets extra hate, I think people rightly hate on all the Billionaires. I very rarely even hear about Bill Gates, more often it’s Elon Musk or Bezos … or Taylor Swift lately.
- Comment on [deleted] 7 months ago:
My point is that we can and should criticize any billionaire no matter their philanthropy, noone becomes a billionaire by accident and it is shameful to be one.
- Comment on [deleted] 7 months ago:
🤷🏻♂️ Pay attention, look for it and you will see this argument come up a lot. Trickle-down economics is a similar idea, and that was a national talking point for years.
- Comment on [deleted] 7 months ago:
People absolutely say that, “philanthrocapitalism” is a nerdy word for it it, but that basic argument comes up in a lot of contexts … pay attention.
- Comment on [deleted] 7 months ago:
Because we shouldn’t be, and don’t need to be, relying on the goodwill of Billionaires to solve social problems. Instead of giving tax breaks for billionaires to pick and choose which issues to fund, we should tax the billionaires out of existence and democratically decide what to do with our money.
- Comment on Does Instagram or YouTube Shorts get you? 7 months ago:
They’re both bad :/
We would still be able to access TikTok.com
- Comment on If a universal basic income started today with the stipulation that you had to put 40 hrs/wk towards making the world a better place or solving societal problems, how would you spend your time? 7 months ago:
I would lobby for our government to take Invasive Plants seriously. Sales of invasive plants needs to be banned from nurseries, and Highways/gov land owning entities need more money invested towards habitat restoration.
- Comment on If a universal basic income started today with the stipulation that you had to put 40 hrs/wk towards making the world a better place or solving societal problems, how would you spend your time? 7 months ago:
It’s a hypothetical question, read the room 🙄. He’s just asking what you would do if you were tasked with making the world a better place.
