Meanwhile, I find even the "smaller" XBox controllers to be utterly unusable and have/had no troubles at all with the PS3 controller. Would be nice if there were more options for each console so that both you and I could be satisfied, but sadly that is not how it's done.

That's so the
sodiumsugar content seems reasonable. - Comment on Earthquake detection kit 5 days ago:
I know this is a joke, but in all seriousness, after the Tohoku earthquake hit, the aftershocks were so nearly-constant that I eventually couldn't tell if there was one going on without looking at the water in the fish tank.
- Comment on Favourite controllers 1 week ago:
The PS3 controller was basically perfect for me. Comfortable, sensible configuration, and not ridiculously large for my not-man-sized hands.
- Comment on What happens to those who are severely disabled while in prison? 1 week ago:
In most places, jail has worse conditions than prison does.
- Comment on Dutch Pro Palestine protesters escort police from University of Amsterdam campus 1 week ago:
Christ, I wish something like this were possible in the US. Our police forces are so militarized (and subject to laxer rules than the military) that the protesters would be assaulted physically with shields, batons, tear gas / chemical irritants, flashbang grenades, rubber bullets, tasers....
And then, even though the police will inevitably have been the ones to start the violence, the assaulted protesters would end up charged with crimes while the police go on with business as usual.
Good for you, Dutch people. You're doing it right.
- Comment on What happens to those who are severely disabled while in prison? 1 week ago:
Americans with disabilities aren't cared for even outside of a correctional setting. I'm sure it is even worse inside of one. I know I've read of multiple instances of people dying or suffering severe consequences because they are not in control of their medication while in custody and it is withheld from them. And that's just medication; you don't need to be disabled to need a medication.

So many vegans in this thread tring to answer the question and getting it completely wrong.
- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 1 week ago:
Most people here are actually acknowledging that it's the loud minority which leads people to dislike vegans.
- Comment on Why do people still eat beef when we know it's terrible for Earth? 1 week ago:
I have food sensitivities which make it so that I can't eat most leafy greens, most legumes, mushrooms, large amounts of carbs....
I'd be on the toilet 24 hours a day if I went vegan.
- Comment on Why do people still eat beef when we know it's terrible for Earth? 1 week ago:
Your own source disputes what you say.
The original study did not include emissions from land use, land use change or forestry, or from sources such as landfills, agriculture and farming. It also did not include data on indirect emissions, which come from purchased energy such as heating and electricity, citing concerns about double-counting emissions attributable to corporations.
The study relied on data collected by the Carbon Majors Database, which focuses on greenhouse gas emissions data from the largest company-related sources. In other words, The data derives from records of carbon dioxide and methane emissions relating to fossil fuel (oil, gas and coal) and cement producers dating back to 1854.
...
t’s difficult to discern how much total global emissions can be attributed to the top 100 polluting corporations, but there are ways to get a ballpark idea.If you use the total global emissions calculated by the Climate Analysis Indicators Tool, an average of around 60% of global emissions can be traced back to those 100 companies from 1990 to 2015.

- Comment on What kind of institutional gaslighting is this? 2 weeks ago:
Look up China's 669 practice. South Korea is also known for having an especially brutal work culture. The two manage to make even Japan's work culture look almost reasonable by comparison (Japan famously requiring long hours and lifelong dedication to your employer).
- Comment on What kind of institutional gaslighting is this? 2 weeks ago:
Yes, but when they hired you, they planned to overwork and exploit you. It's not fair that they can't do so!

That would be amazing. They can already live so long. To think, you might be able to have a cat with you for most of your adult life.

Some scientists actually are working on this. I haven't read this article in particular, but it was near the top of a search.
tl;dr is that there may soon be a drug available which can extend the lives of large dogs.
- Comment on The Onion Is Sold by G/O Media | The satirical news website was bought by a new firm in Chicago that took inspiration for its name, Global Tetrahedron, from a book written by The Onion’s staff. 3 weeks ago:
“Our goal is to be stewards for this thing,” he said. “We’re keeping all the writers, we’re going to work with the union, we’re going to make it so they can hopefully get paid a little bit more money, and we’re going to give them the room to grow.”
The new owners said they planned to improve user experience on the website and expand into multimedia, but otherwise wanted The Onion’s staff members to continue to do the work they’ve been doing.
Sounds alright.

Unfortunately, the bar really is pretty low. Even most modern men who would consider themselves to be feminists(/consider woman to be equals) don't do their fair share of household work, let alone parenting. It's really ingrained in the culture.

Sounds like men don't want to write books about it (or otherwise feel disincentived for doing so), so all you're seeing are female perspectives.
- Comment on They really want people to RTO 4 weeks ago:
When I initially became disabled, I tried to keep working desperately. I spent a couple of months working from bed before I had to give up.
Just an anecdote. Most people don't actually work from bed.

- Comment on United Scams of Assholes 5 weeks ago:
My previous landlord owes me $3,200. I still have a few months before it's too late for me to take them to small claims court, but I'm chronically ill and simply don't have the energy. Which the landlord knew.
I left the house cleaner than it was when I moved in.
- Comment on United Scams of Assholes 5 weeks ago:
Meanwhile, in Japan, you typically give they landlord gift money at the beginning of your contract. Literally money that isn't a deposit on anything, doesn't cover rent--it's just a gift. A mandatory gift which is given in addition to the security deposit and first month's rent.
It's called "key money" in English. Not every rental requires it, but the majority do. Moving in Japan is expensive.
