sweet stop
I think you mean sweet spot. Now I’m wondering if it’s a typo or an eggcorn.

Has anyone read the novel? I normally like to read the source book before watching the adaptation, but my to-read list is already longer than a human lifetime.
- Comment on Ooo Duff! 2 months ago:
After duffing the ball all over the golf course, I sat on my duff, ate some duff, drank too many Duff beers, then some duffer threatened to duff me up because he thought I’d got his sister up the duff. After this duff day, I went into the woods and lay in the duff.

I don’t know enough to know how correct your pedantry is (technically or not), but to explain the meme it made sense to go through the symbols in the order you see them. I never got any points from the proof questions in exams anyway.
- Comment on Conversing with Mathematicians 3 months ago:
When all you have is an imaginary hammer, everything looks like a rotation around the imaginary unit circle.
Explanation of maths
x = -10, i = √-1 so i² = -1 and 10i²=-10

When it works, it’s Arby’s. When it doesn’t, it’s hour-old Arby’s.
This is too American for me - Arby’s sells food? Is fresh Arby’s great or merely ok? I assume hour-old is bad.

People say they want that, but do those independent cinemas get enough people through the doors to stay open?

A bunch of people got away with the Panama Papers stuff because of chain of custody shenanigans.

I guess it’s the King’s English now. I’m always careful to avoid spelling things the US way, because as a programmer there’s some things (yup, like color) that I type more often in the US version than international English and muscle memory’s a sticky bugger.

fyi, you mean courtesy - curtesy is an old legal term.

- Comment on Finally: ‘Fresh Kills’ Is the Best Mafia Movie in Ages 5 months ago:
Its IMDb page is a bit sus: the reviews are an almost unbroken stream of gushing 10 star reviews, but there’s plenty of people voting it 1 star too. Astroturfing or just polarising?
- Comment on ‘Jurassic World 4’ Set to Shoot in Thailand, Malta and U.K. 5 months ago:
I thought Jurassic World Dominion was the final one? Wasn’t that why they brought back so many of the original cast? And it was pretty terrible, and dragged heavily towards the end.
Hollywood is addicted to established IPs, find some courage and be inventive again, please.

Article includes screenshot from The Mummy Returns which is from 2001 and is therefore old enough to watch any of the other films mentioned.

One place I worked had a small park, so sometimes I’d go for a lap or two to think something through - the fresh air, mild exercise, change of scenery and lack of distractions wroked wonders.

- Comment on Ant smell 5 months ago:
At the same time, Penick had people rate what they thought the ant smelled like. Most people said blue cheese, but some thought it smelled like rotted coconut. So Penick rotted a coconut in his backyard and found a mold growing on it that, sure enough, is the same mold (Penicillium roqueforti) that’s used to produce blue cheese. Another mystery, solved.
House ants, rotten coconuts and blue cheese all smell the same. Life is weird.

A fun article, and I really like the idea of pataphysics. I’ve klnown of SCP for a long time but I’ve never delved into it - it seems more bottomless than TVTropes, and I’ve spent/wasted enough time there already!
- Comment on Dr. Pulaski Appreciation Post 5 months ago:
I was referring to this trivia:
Picard’s scene with Guinan was not in the original script. Melinda M. Snodgrass was told that they needed a “Ten-Forward” scene to accommodate Whoopi Goldberg coming in that week.
I took it as true, although I had a quick go at finding where this claim came from and am drawing a blank
- Comment on Dr. Pulaski Appreciation Post 5 months ago:
I watched that one last night and had the same thought - she’s been the face of nonacceptance towards Data and although Bruce Maddox is far more extreme in his views it seemed like a waste of her character building.
That said, they’d already shoehorned in a Guinan scene so I don’t know where they’d find the time.

The higher protein part is true, and also humans are the only animal to shed emotional tears. It makes sense that it’s a signalling mechanism - we know that evolution has given social animals other visual indicators.

This was my face when I foolishly asked my maths teacher what pi was - he spoke for a long time, I understand nothing and I was late to my next class.
I’m not a teacher, but I’m so ready for a kid (or anyone) to ask me this so I can do a better job. Ideally somewhere I can get hold of coins because who carries those any more?
