That actor died just after they started production.

Yeah I just went looking for other reactions on Bluesky as this was shocking and really bothersome, but that was without the context. With it, it’s 10x worse.
I shouldn’t have had to dig replies deep into a different article to find this, shows what an insane chilling effect this current political climate has. This was 100% a hate crime and a targeted harassment campaign, and it’s not even mentioned.

- Comment on Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S. 1 month ago:
It’s only “outrageously” priced compared to its predecessor, and only if you don’t think about it too much. Considering under the hood it’s basically a phone or tablet, it’s very fairly priced considering the specs.
The Switch 1 is basically a tablet from 2017 being sold for $300. It never received a price drop despite it using 8 year old technology, it actually received a price increase with the OLED model. An iPad 5th Gen from 2017 sells for $50 on eBay, for comparison purposes. Not like for like as that has a way higher res screen and less RAM, but it’s fairly close.
As it’s a new chip with an expected 10 year lifespan, it’s likely on 3nm process which means it has to fight for manufacturing time with TSMC because they’re the only ones who can fab that sort of chip.
All that, plus the expectation that they will be absorbing some tariff costs for now means it will likely never see a price drop, and honestly doesn’t seem that bad in terms of pricing. It’s the cheapest console on the market with the exception of the very underpowered and useless Series S, and it’s competitively priced in terms of the tech under the hood.
So if it will be the cheapest console of its generation, is already cheaper than its ancient competition, is cheaper than a mid range GPU by itself, and is cheaper or comparably priced with similarly specced devices, then how is it so overpriced?
- Comment on Nintendo confirms $90 price for full Breath of the Wild experience on Switch 2 2 months ago:
I guess that would be the case if you bought it, beat it and sold it, but most people in that scenario would already own it and then they would just buy the upgrade pack. This $90 option is only for people who don’t own the game in any form yet.
The idea that any significant contingent of people would not own it in any form, then suddenly want to play it on Switch 2 but would balk at the asking price seems unlikely, certainly not enough to cut the price in half.
If they wanted a cheaper option they could always just buy a used Switch copy and then just buy the upgrade pack. I would prefer cheaper Nintendo games too but the reality is this won’t cost them that many sales.
- Comment on Nintendo confirms $90 price for full Breath of the Wild experience on Switch 2 2 months ago:
They really wouldn’t. They would have to triple or quadruple sales to take that sort of a hit. As it stands it’s one of the best selling games of all time already, basically everyone interested in it already owns it.
Financially, they made the right decision. As annoying as it is from the consumer side.

We lost that in the PS4 era, seems weird to mourn it now.
- Comment on Can't Afford A Nintendo Switch 2? Buy A Switch 1, Nintendo Says - Insider Gaming 2 months ago:
Except that was about internet connectivity and this is about price. Telling people to go with the old console because they can’t due to a bullshit restriction is crazy, saying it about price is pretty fair. If you can’t afford a current gen console, then the last gen would be the best option. At $450USD it will still be the cheapest console on the market other than the Switch 1.
I’m honestly shocked people are so up in arms about the price. Doesn’t really seem like Nintendo is gouging here, a comparable phone or tablet with the same specs comes in around the same price or higher. It has pretty much every feature people were asking for at about a $100USD premium over the existing Switch.
Raising standard game prices, charging for the tutorial app, and charging for next gen upgrades, that I get the pushback on.
- Comment on Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube controller is only compatible with GameCube games, Nintendo says 2 months ago:
I doubt it. Why wouldn’t it just be a modified Pro controller like every other classic controller they’ve released. My guess is they are just managing expectations that it won’t be automatically usable with every game and mapped correctly.
I doubt I’ll ever connect this to my Switch 2, it’s going to be a replacement for the aging used WaveBirds that are hooked up to my Wii. With BlueRetro as the receiver, my guess is they’ll work day 1 or shortly after. For that, they’re awesome options.

- Comment on Skyblivion, the fan remake of Oblivion in Skyrim's engine, nears completion 3 months ago:
How is it a dick move to remake their own game? I would love that and buy it day one, Oblivion is amazing and it’s very constrained by its PS3/360 era memory limits.
A dick move would be sending a C&D to the Skyblivion team and not letting the remaster/remake stand on its own. Attitudes like this are why most developers don’t even bother with modding support.
- Comment on PS5 Pro sales ‘have fallen behind PS4 Pro in the US 3 months ago:
My PS5 will probably be my last non-Nintendo console. I use my Gaming PC for everything, Steam Deck for portable, and Switch for everything Nintendo.
I haven’t turned on my PS5 since Rebirth and my XSX for… Goldeneye? I don’t even remember it was so long ago.
There have been like 3 PS5 exclusive games that I wanted to play and they’ve all come to PC. Just don’t see the point anymore.

Great! Having these games locked to PS2 & PS3 was a shame, if these come to Steam that would be amazing.

If you need the feature set of Bluesky and Mastodon, please also follow fed.brid.gy if you can. This will allow Mastodon users to follow you from the Fediverse.
- Comment on [deleted] 7 months ago:
If they don’t, please also follow Brid.gy so your BlueSky account is federated to Mastodon. If you move to Threads, please turn on Fediverse integration.
It’s so frustrating, between Mastodon, Bluesky and Threads almost every person I used to follow on Twitter exists somewhere else. But only about half of them are accessible in any one platform.

Most of Europe just uses metres for people’s height. 1.67m, like that. I have no mental picture of that, so it doesn’t work for me. But they don’t seem to have any trouble, further evidence that it’s all just what you know.
- Comment on Burning Up 9 months ago:
It doesn’t help at all, it’s being intentionally obtuse.
- Comment on Burning Up 9 months ago:
Whatever it was it was intended for it was built in China for a global audience, then customized for whatever market it was sold in. They all use common software platforms.
It does indeed change that fact, because temperature is exclusively reported in whole numbers. Go to any weather channel, site, provider, etc. It’s always whole numbers, even in Celsius.
It truly doesn’t matter.
- Comment on Burning Up 9 months ago:
For proof that this thread is just people justifying what they know as better somehow, look no further than Canada.
We do cooking temps in Fahrenheit, weather in Celsius. Human weights in pounds, but never pounds and oz. Food weights in grams, cooking weights in pounds and oz. Liquid volume in millilitres and litres, but cooking in cups, teaspoons and tablespoons. Speed & distance in kilometres, heights in feet and inches.
Try and give this any consistency and people will look at you like you’re fucked. The next town is 100km over, I’m 5ft 10in, a can of soda is 355ml, it’s 21c out and I have the oven roasting something at 400f. Tell me it’s 68f out and I will fight you.
People like what they are used to, and will bend over backwards to justify it. This becomes blatantly obvious when you use a random mix of units like we do, because you realize that all that matters is mental scale.
If Fahrenheit is “how people feel” then why are feet useful measurements of height when 90% of people are between 4ft and 6ft? They aren’t. You just know the scale in your head, so when someone says they’re 7ft tall you say “dang that’s tall”. That’s it.
- Comment on Burning Up 9 months ago:
The reason you see fractions is BECAUSE of Fahrenheit. Your air conditioner is designed to work in multiple regions and so it works on steps. Easier to just map the half steps to Fahrenheit degrees and call it a day.
For non-electronic usage, people just say the round number.
- Comment on Sony officially teases PlayStation 5 Pro - VideoCardz.com 9 months ago:
The current Slim PS5 also doesn’t have a disc drive, you can just buy it in a bundle and attach the optional one.
Honestly for manufacturing this makes way more sense, to ship one SKU and then make them all upgradable to disc. It’s also kind of nice that if you buy a digital one and want disc in the future you can just buy the drive.
- Comment on Game developers are still feeling the pull of last-generation consoles 10 months ago:
Yeah now that I think about it, that has been my experience with my Series X, I just don’t use it that often. My PS5 however is much more seameless, so maybe it was just Sony who tried to improve this.
I think a network connection is inevitable during initial game setup, but as PC gaming has been like this since 2008 it’s not really bothersome to me. Bigger issue was mandatory updates, slow launches, etc. which I think have mostly been solved on the PS5 side.
- Comment on Game developers are still feeling the pull of last-generation consoles 10 months ago:
Yeah these discussions are hilarious, like watching people arguing about anti-aliasing back in the day. Rerendering the whole scene again? Just to remove some jagged edges? What a waste.
Raytracing is future technology, I’m glad it’s in every game now even if it’s not always well optimized or worth using, because it will make those games age that much better when I want to go back and play them in 10+ years.
