I didn’t say it was a lie, I said I think it’s inflated the way I already explained. Also, the fact that they are lower than other publishers indicates they will see a bigger impact from this than others.
Physical media is making a resurgence in other areas. Vinyl, DVD, 4K BluRay. Not a big one, but it’s on a backswing. I’m not doubting video games are lower every year because they are still in their initial era.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree on the impact. I think the knock-on effect will be bigger than they anticipate. Obviously they agree with you that it won’t impact anything. I think it will, for all the reasons I just went over. It’s not a 1:1 relationship between sale and impact. When people don’t have the console because it doesn’t attract them, they can’t make any sales. So they won’t lose one sale from me, they’ll lose the console sale and dozens of physical and digital games.
- Comment on End of an era? 1 week ago:
I do buy digital and have for decades, but primarily for PC. I don’t for console because that’s the last thing I wanted a console for. I have no intention of abandoning the hobby, but this is my last reason to buy a PlayStation. They offer nothing that isn’t done better on a gaming PC.
I saw the 85% stat they are pushing. I honestly don’t believe it. I strongly believe they are pumping that number up by counting PlayStation Plus redemptions and smaller games in that total. I would be much more interested to see what the actual Physical vs. Digital sales are for a single new release title on day one. I would guess the split is much closer to 70/30. That might be higher in markets where internet access is less robust. This will also piss off retailers and distributors, which now are expected to sell low-margin consoles without high margin games. They chose such a far off date in purpose, to see the feedback and test the waters. I doubt this will come to fruition. Physical media is seeing a resurgence as trust for these companies to maintain services is at an all time low.
On that note, companies need to be careful taking industry wide trends and extrapolating from them with no nuance. That’s why I worded my first comment carefully. I am not anti-Digital at all, but I buy a console for collecting exclusives. I have hundreds of digital Steam games and some digital PS5 games. You know how many digital PS6 games I’ll have? Zero, because I won’t own one. Like backwards compatibility, the benefit of it can’t be quantified by how much time people use it vs. cost of development. Physical media is a draw, even if it is not always taken advantage of. I’m not boycotting, I’m genuinely no longer interested.
This is the kind of decision that looks great on a balance sheet when you have no competition. But when your hardcore audience stops buying, collectors that buy extra releases and collectors editions stop collecting, retailers stop pushing because they can only sell one low margin box, and your competitors see your weakness and double down on it, it might not turn out so great.
- Comment on End of an era? 1 week ago:
I can’t speak to market trends, but I can say this 100% makes my PS5 my last Sony console. I’ve bought every one, and the only reason I continue to buy them is so I can collect exclusives on disc for my collection.
A digital only console is just a bad, expensive gaming PC. I already have a good expensive gaming PC, so I’ll just buy games digitally there.
- Comment on Steam Machine pricing announced (from $1049-$1428 USD), reservation lists open 2 weeks ago:
I have to wonder why, exactly. My hunch is that this really only appeals to people who want a console-like experience but refuse to buy a console and are willing to pay a huge premium for worse performance to do so.
I don’t even think this is a bad idea, if you have an extensive Steam library then it might be the smart long term financial decision and it’s nice to have a set-it-and-forget-it option for gaming on your TV that can leverage that. I don’t think anyone who buys this will be unhappy with it.
I just think this is a very small market, and most other people have a gaming PC already, would prefer better performance or would save the premium price and just buy a console.
If this can get down to $1000CAD and they introduce a $2000-$2500CAD model when component pricing is sane again that has actual 4K60 performance then this has potential to upend the industry. As it stands I can’t recommend it to anyone.
- Comment on Steam Machine pricing announced (from $1049-$1428 USD), reservation lists open 2 weeks ago:
This is a tough price point for any crowd. The spec of a PS5 at twice the price? Enthusiasts want better specs, and console gamers want a better price.
This is a swing & a miss. The initial order will sell out on speculation and because component prices are garbage so it will have a small run. I’m not so hopeful for future batches unless they can at least match the price of the PS5 Pro.
- Comment on Steam Machine pricing announced (from $1049-$1428 USD), reservation lists open 2 weeks ago:
Except a PS5 Pro is $1100CAD and this is $1500CAD. That is a huge jump. This is too underpowered for enthusiasts, and too expensive for console only gamers.
I know why they have the price pressure they do. But I can’t say I’m not wildly disappointed. This had the potential to end the console market entirely and now it’s looking like another also ran.
I was almost definitely going to buy this. At this price vs performance, I don’t think I’ll even put my name on the list. Much of this is out of Valve’s hands, but maybe they should have just scrapped it until pricing is better. This might be worse than nothing.
- Comment on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake – Coming 2026 4 weeks ago:
Bethesda ported Skyrim to 4 successive console generations across 15 years and made a VR version, all of which had very minor enhancements. In that time they made zero other Elder Scrolls games.
Nintendo made one enhanced port across 28 years, and is now making a remake. In that time they have made countless Zelda games.
This is not even remotely the same situation.

- Comment on Dev says Switch 2’s physical Game Cards were too slow for Star Wars Outlaws port 9 months ago:
Star Wars Outlaws targeted PS5/Xbox Series X and came out in 2024, Cyberpunk 2077 targeted PS4/Xbox One and came out in 2020. It’s really not a fair comparison.
Could they do it? Probably, but it would likely be a lot of work and significantly hurt performance, for what is an extra port anyways.
I appreciate the devs explaining this publicly. Personally I really liked the idea of game key cards as a replacement for codes in a box, but soured on it when we got codes in a box still AND most 3rd party releases using game key cards. This helps explain why so many devs have been opting for them and hopefully Nintendo rectifies the situation by allowing installs and offering faster cartridges.

Yeah I just went looking for other reactions on Bluesky as this was shocking and really bothersome, but that was without the context. With it, it’s 10x worse.
I shouldn’t have had to dig replies deep into a different article to find this, shows what an insane chilling effect this current political climate has. This was 100% a hate crime and a targeted harassment campaign, and it’s not even mentioned.

- Comment on Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S. 1 year ago:
It’s only “outrageously” priced compared to its predecessor, and only if you don’t think about it too much. Considering under the hood it’s basically a phone or tablet, it’s very fairly priced considering the specs.
The Switch 1 is basically a tablet from 2017 being sold for $300. It never received a price drop despite it using 8 year old technology, it actually received a price increase with the OLED model. An iPad 5th Gen from 2017 sells for $50 on eBay, for comparison purposes. Not like for like as that has a way higher res screen and less RAM, but it’s fairly close.
As it’s a new chip with an expected 10 year lifespan, it’s likely on 3nm process which means it has to fight for manufacturing time with TSMC because they’re the only ones who can fab that sort of chip.
All that, plus the expectation that they will be absorbing some tariff costs for now means it will likely never see a price drop, and honestly doesn’t seem that bad in terms of pricing. It’s the cheapest console on the market with the exception of the very underpowered and useless Series S, and it’s competitively priced in terms of the tech under the hood.
So if it will be the cheapest console of its generation, is already cheaper than its ancient competition, is cheaper than a mid range GPU by itself, and is cheaper or comparably priced with similarly specced devices, then how is it so overpriced?
- Comment on Nintendo confirms $90 price for full Breath of the Wild experience on Switch 2 1 year ago:
I guess that would be the case if you bought it, beat it and sold it, but most people in that scenario would already own it and then they would just buy the upgrade pack. This $90 option is only for people who don’t own the game in any form yet.
The idea that any significant contingent of people would not own it in any form, then suddenly want to play it on Switch 2 but would balk at the asking price seems unlikely, certainly not enough to cut the price in half.
If they wanted a cheaper option they could always just buy a used Switch copy and then just buy the upgrade pack. I would prefer cheaper Nintendo games too but the reality is this won’t cost them that many sales.
- Comment on Nintendo confirms $90 price for full Breath of the Wild experience on Switch 2 1 year ago:
They really wouldn’t. They would have to triple or quadruple sales to take that sort of a hit. As it stands it’s one of the best selling games of all time already, basically everyone interested in it already owns it.
Financially, they made the right decision. As annoying as it is from the consumer side.

- Comment on Can't Afford A Nintendo Switch 2? Buy A Switch 1, Nintendo Says - Insider Gaming 1 year ago:
Except that was about internet connectivity and this is about price. Telling people to go with the old console because they can’t due to a bullshit restriction is crazy, saying it about price is pretty fair. If you can’t afford a current gen console, then the last gen would be the best option. At $450USD it will still be the cheapest console on the market other than the Switch 1.
I’m honestly shocked people are so up in arms about the price. Doesn’t really seem like Nintendo is gouging here, a comparable phone or tablet with the same specs comes in around the same price or higher. It has pretty much every feature people were asking for at about a $100USD premium over the existing Switch.
Raising standard game prices, charging for the tutorial app, and charging for next gen upgrades, that I get the pushback on.
- Comment on Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube controller is only compatible with GameCube games, Nintendo says 1 year ago:
I doubt it. Why wouldn’t it just be a modified Pro controller like every other classic controller they’ve released. My guess is they are just managing expectations that it won’t be automatically usable with every game and mapped correctly.
I doubt I’ll ever connect this to my Switch 2, it’s going to be a replacement for the aging used WaveBirds that are hooked up to my Wii. With BlueRetro as the receiver, my guess is they’ll work day 1 or shortly after. For that, they’re awesome options.

- Comment on Skyblivion, the fan remake of Oblivion in Skyrim's engine, nears completion 1 year ago:
How is it a dick move to remake their own game? I would love that and buy it day one, Oblivion is amazing and it’s very constrained by its PS3/360 era memory limits.
A dick move would be sending a C&D to the Skyblivion team and not letting the remaster/remake stand on its own. Attitudes like this are why most developers don’t even bother with modding support.
- Comment on PS5 Pro sales ‘have fallen behind PS4 Pro in the US 1 year ago:
My PS5 will probably be my last non-Nintendo console. I use my Gaming PC for everything, Steam Deck for portable, and Switch for everything Nintendo.
I haven’t turned on my PS5 since Rebirth and my XSX for… Goldeneye? I don’t even remember it was so long ago.
There have been like 3 PS5 exclusive games that I wanted to play and they’ve all come to PC. Just don’t see the point anymore.
