Hmm… not bad. I only watched 5ish min, but he seems genuine - that is to say, he realizes he fucked up, not that he’ll actually change anything
More interesting, to me, as someone that had only heard about this from headlines, you can clearly see the mental illness pervasive in his community by looking at the comments and even moreso by looking at the guy’s room. Dude is someone we should pity, not hate - granted I understand influencers having massive platforms, and well influence
Still, I wish we could be more like the Palestinians and Arabs he mentions, that checked on him to see if he was ok, instead of the knee-jerk, quick to react Americans we are, that are ready to pounce on a fallen

Sucks to suck! Jk. It’s just wild how much money gets spent on these things and all for nothing, basically. Crazy when you realize they make something like this and don’t even ask if fans will enjoy it
That said, I’m ‘gunna’ wait until Gunn’s first movie before I completely right off my dreams of a DC universe that’s on the same level as dark knight. I’m sure it would never be as r rated but I don’t think that’s entirely necessary, as much as I’d personally like it to be
- Comment on At what point when learning a new language do someone become bilingual? 1 month ago:
Idk, I’m bilingual and I only ever think in English. It doesn’t really seem to make a difference though, saying things out loud vs in my head.
I’m learning a third language now and can just barely communicate with others (worked with a taxi driver!). That said, I wouldn’t consider myself truly trilingual yet. I could think in that language but it doesn’t really feel like it changes anything - I still only know the same words in my head

It’s worth realizing some people do not want to be cheered up. My understanding is the misery, for lack of a better word, is more comforting to many as it reminds them of when they were young (or they emulate what they saw around them as children)
- Comment on Threw a wrestling watch party, made special food, and was very disappointed in the outcome. 2 months ago:
Some people simply don’t know how to be good friends. You really shouldn’t take it personal
I’ve just had to learn my closest friends simply aren’t capable of providing emotional connection like I’d like. I’m working on becoming a better friend to them, meeting them where they are , trying to figure out how to provide for and validate my own emotional needs, so I can eventually work up the courage, or whatever it is I need, to meet friends that are more emotionally mature enough to have the real connections I’m looking for
I once delayed a party where I had tons of family over because my friends hadn’t arrived. They didn’t get there until like 10 or something, after I’d already told them to just fuck off. The thing is, they are my friends and they legit care about me in their own (weird to me) ways. I’ve just come to realize they’ve got legit issues, as I do (part of why we’re drawn to being friends), that they’re working on to varying degrees, and I simply can’t expect more from them than they’re capable of giving
Good luck finding a chill healthy tribe of folks that shares similar values to your own!

Haha. Nah, I wasn’t being serious. I was making a reference to the “-typical” in the term neurotypical and thought it was funniee to point it out - like a wink wink nudge nudge thing

- Comment on Palworld faces the difficult choice of whether to become a live-service game or stay buy-to-play, PocketPair’s CEO says 2 months ago:
Anyone know if The Finals counts as a “live service” game? It’s free to play and I think it’s fantastic - both the game and the fact it’s free.
I just don’t play games enough to justify the huge asking prices anymore. The last games I paid for were COD MW2 and Cyberpunk and I doubt I’ll ever drop $70+ for a game again, especially when there’s games like splitgate and whatnot that are free (not that I ever tried the new one. lol)

Idk… I find pi AI incredible and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in having a low-stakes conversation about their mental health or just to have a general conversation about what they’re feeling. I honestly don’t use it enough (like when I’m super bummed and have no one to talk to). So far, it’s always been 1000% helpful

- Comment on There are cracks forming in the US jobs market 3 months ago:
In short, the employment gains haven’t been broad-based. Instead, the overall numbers are reflective of a “rolling recession,” where sectors experience downturns and recoveries at different times.
“This is an unusual state of affairs where the aggregate numbers look pretty strong, but they’re really being boosted by the unusually strong government and health care numbers, which are masking the unusual weakness elsewhere,” Pollak said.
“I think it’s the major reason why the aggregate figures look so strong and yet people feel so bad,” she added. “Most people in this country are not working in health care or a police department and can’t easily switch into those kinds of jobs. … These averages can look quite rosy but mask the very real challenges and struggles of business owners and job seekers.”
Thought that was interesting. Hadn’t heard that concept mentioned ever before. Seems super important to the conversation. It’s like talking about polls without making a distinction for popular vote vs swing state votes.

- Comment on So is the global IT crash fixed yet? 3 months ago:
Glad it wasn’t too bad for you/y’all.
Unfortunately, I wiped my computer Thursday night before our company mentioned anything. lol. I ended up finding out about the issue on Lemmy/Reddit. My company didn’t send anything out until this morning - which I still find insane, my laptop crashed and started looping around 7p (took them like 12 hours).
My laptop just rebooted while I was working so I assumed some program I’d installed caused it (explorerpatcher). I tried everything, safe mode, system restore, uninstall updates. I figured the only option left was to reinstall windows. Done it plenty of times on my personal PC
Oh well, lesson learned. Shit’s totally fucked now. It won’t even connect to the Internet. lol. Definitely a Monday problem though

I just realized you must be talking about mobile games or something. lol
I was thinking of the finals or even warzone. Completely free games where you can just pay for a skin for your gun. Seems pretty great to me. I never pay for another COD game while then some poor addicted souls pay for everything they can. I mean, it works out pretty well for everyone… except those people, since they end up paying way more than what a game used to cost

I could spend a little extra money but I’m a bit depressed, mainly in the mornings and evenings. What does that get me?
I’ll start the bidding at: OK to use Amazon, but I have to skip prime day and black friday/cyber monday. Also, I’ll only subscribe to prime on monthly basis and cancel it at least more than 3 months each year so it’s less than the annual subscription
- Comment on Humans didn't invent agriculture 4 months ago:
No idea, tbh. I’m nearly half way through it and I’ve yet to hear anything controversial other than religion is basically made up, but I already thought so. It’s really just super thought-provoking stuff.
If I were to describe it, I’d say it’s moreso an incredibly well thought-out narrative on the story of the human species and where we fit in time and space.
For example, the part this meme is from blew my mind. It’s a couple paragraphs and gets set up with the backdrop/context of the agricultural evolution and kind of comes out of nowhere.
Lastly, one interesting thought I had while reading it is how evolution doesn’t really “care” if we’re depressed, as long as we’re still reproducing the cycle continues (this was moreso a thought I had while reading the book than something explicitly said, I think)

Good thing back in the day there were probably very few cult leaders…
Does anyone wonder about how the story of Jesus being plagiarized from the Egyptian myth of Horus affects the narrative about the Jesus that supposedly lived and died a century earlier? You know the one that happened to have incredibly important political value for the established leaders of the time?
No? Me either. Praise Horus!

Ngl, I did not actually expand the picture to see the caption. I just saw the main image about knowledge. Post-docs absolutely get fucked and I do feel bad for them.
I quit one year into my PhD because I was miserable in grad school. I have to assume most post-docs have some crazy resilience or some kind of mental issue/trauma that keeps them going and going. I guess that’s probably true for most people but post-docs do some seriously hard mental work and basically get shafted the entire time (at least in the US).
