Fwiw, the cheap olive oil is really good for mayo you make yourself. EVOO should be used for things like salads and bread, where the taste makes the difference.
If you want oil in a pan, cheap stuff works just fine…only you have to be careful because olive oil in the states isn’t always olive oil.
- Comment on Wayfair's call center insists you give them your SSN before they'll file a report for credit fraud 8 months ago:
Look into the benefits offered by your other credit cards. My identity was stolen a few years ago and I learned like a few months ago that one of my credit cards offers free identity protection services if/when your identity gets stolen.
They handle all of the annoying shit like contacting the bank, getting the debt off of your credit card, etc.
If not, and you were part of the Equifax (or any) hack, you likely have this same service available to you for free.

I think that’s part of it. The other part is that primary school teachers have to teach to the curriculum and not what they want. So if they want to teach about how whites got preferential treatment but the county school board says “No CrItIcAl RaCe ThEoRy!1”, they can’t teach it.
My college history professors were far more engaging. Especially my military history professor.

No GOP wet dream is basically what North Korea does.
You stand in line to vote and are handed a card. There is one box for the “candidate”. You vote by putting your card in the box while everyone watches.
You have the choice to not vote.
Guess how many don’t vote b

I’m imagining the scene from Step Brothers:
Spider: Can you eat the ants but not my eggs?
Frog: YUP! Can you protect me from other things that want to eat me?
Spider: YUP! Did we just become best friends?!
Frog: YUP!

I tried a bunch of questions. It seems okay on giving you instructions on forming a union at Target, Starbucks…but not Amazon.
- Comment on Cloudflare Employee records her final meeting where HR tries to fire her 11 months ago:
They don’t have to pay unemployment if you are fired for performance.
That said, my understanding is that you should always file for unemployment and file an appeal when it’s denied. Chances are higher that it will get overturned on appeal.

Ngl, I absolutely love rigid. Most have lifetime guarantees, even on batteries.
Never had to exercise them fortunately.

Pretty sure that’s desert terrain.
- Comment on I got this popup ad on my TV **while watching a DVD** 11 months ago:
The problem is that because the hardware is there, a determined person with physical access can change the settings to join a network you don’t control.
Ideally, you can open the TV and remove the wifi modules but I suspect that might be beyond the skills of most TV owners.
Tbh, I stopped owning a TV since college. I watch everything on my computer or phone now.
- Comment on I'm locked out of my 6 year old Chipotle account because they now say my email address is invalid when I login. Here is me asking for their help: 1 year ago:
When you share your playlist or have Spotify hooked up to some other service like discord, it shows the name associated with the account.
And changing that name is not as straight forward as you might think.
Given the fact that it’s shared so easily, I wouldn’t be surprised if email addresses could be exposed with the right options.

Not necessarily shady.
I use 10 minute email if a merchant requires me enter an email account before seeing the total price on an item (including shipping). That’s the most common pattern I’ve seen. My guess is that they want to ping you to complete the purchase.
Or a website might require free registration in order to view the content.
One place I use 10-minute email is actually Spotify. I didn’t want to give them my Gmail address since your name is exposed to the world via their sharing API.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of bad uses for it as well. But privacy minded people use it too.

The only correct regex for email is:
.+@.+
So long as the address has a local part, the at sign, and a hostname, it’s a valid email address.
Whether it goes somewhere is the tricky part.

Doesn’t surprise me one bit. I’ve noticed that a lot of websites will only accept
.com
and a few will only accept email addresses from popular providers (Gmail, Hotmail, outlook, etc.)My guess is that it’s trying to reduce spam and fake account generation.
- Comment on it always interesting when multi billion dollar company's costing system is a 63 tab excel 97 spreadsheet at it's core... 1 year ago:
I work for a Fortune 500 company and I can tell you the reason why excel (and Google sheets) are used inappropriately is because cyber data controls make creating and maintaining a database very hard. Not only that but the skills required to know how to make a table in a spreadsheet is nowhere near the skills required to deploy, maintain, and provision a database table.
Spreadsheets don’t require a UI to be built. People don’t have to learn a new app just to be able to see data.
I’m an IT guy too and I’m the first to tell you that spreadsheets suck. But when it takes an act of a board to create new tables in a database, I tell ya…might as well just use spreadsheets.

- Comment on Tax time 1 year ago:
FreeTaxUSA provides free federal filing, including Schedule C (Self-Employeed) and Schedule E (Rental Income). I’m sure they have more scenarios.
You pay for state but it’s usually a $12-15.
You can import your TurboTax/HR Block returns and it mostly does a good job bringing it in.
- Comment on Exciting news! The free API you were using is no more free! 1 year ago:
Probably because anyone can contribute to it. But you have to pay to use them.
Kinda like another website that recently made this change…

Same with the Nintendo Wii. I was working in retail back when it came out. People offered to give me money if I saved one for them.
- Comment on Frustrations with college education 1 year ago:
The way that it was explained to me is college is an “indicator” that says a candidate was able to go to class, study, and pass an exam. These are things that tell an employer that you have the skills to schedule your life, do assignments, wake up, etc.
Bootcamps, certifications, etc. all show how you can do a specific thing.
I’m not saying I agree with it. Remember that when you apply to jobs, your resume and your experience is to get past the resume bot. College and certs are easy gates for a company to put in their bot to filter resumes out.
