I’ve only used door dash like 3 times, and it was uneventful.
I used ubereats a lot, especially early covid, before the price gouging and explotation set in, and I only had like…two issues.
One was the driver, whom i was watching on the map, took a right turn when they should have gone straight, and disappeared off the map. Straight up stole my food, and the restaurant had to remake it and reorder it… and i think the driver that delivered that order had some knowledge of the first, thieving driver, cause the second he got out of the car he was nothing but excuses for the other driver.
the other one was we got just a shit awful meal from a restaurant, completely inedible. Some parts overcooked to charcoal, other parts still fuckin raw… Uber eats denied any refund or anything despite pictures showing the very obvious issues, because apparently I had ordered from the same place like 18 months previously and got a refund because a side order wasnt delievered… Which uber used to low key accuse me without outright accusing me of trying to scam them and the restaurant and denying my refund.
Which not gonna lie, really pissed me off and pretty much lead to me not using ubereats outside of exceptionally rare circumstances.

Strikes me as bog standard AI support misreading the situation to an absolutely hilarious degree, because god forbid we actually be able to talk to people.

I find it incredible that every time I see a bad food delivery story, its always from doordash.
Never ubereats, or grubhub, or any of the others.
Does Doordash do nothing but hire the people the other companies fire/blackball?

I have not had insurance my entire adult life, because it was too expensive, and the jobs I was able to work didnt offer it.
the only experience I’ve had with insurance, in my adult life, is handling an elderly relatives medical issues. They have medicare.
Medicare is fucking awesome. Anything they need, poof, its done. no delays, no awaiting approvals, just get it fucking done. Most of their drugs are free (at least until trump gets rid of part d…), and the one that isnt, is only like 5 dollars, for a 90 day supply (so 20 bucks a year for meds). They have had multiple major surgeries, and the copay was like 30 dollars each time.
Not once have they ever been told they cant have a treatment, or that they have to go through some bullshit process of trying 3 other things before they can get the treatment the doctor orders, nothing.
Medicare is fucking awesome and everyone should have it.

People have alway been stupid.
100 years ago during the spanish flu we had the exact same shit we had today. idiots spewing pseudoscience, idiots saying its just a cold, idiots saying makes are worse for your health than a “minor” infection, etc etc.
and I imagine you’d run into the same kind of sentiments no matter how far you go back in history.
Because people are stupid. People are myopic.
Individuals may be empathic and genuinely care and do everything they can, but the majority are just mouth breathing plague carrying idiots whose greatest achievement in life is not drowning in the rain.

Mackinac Island is a no vehicles place. With the only exception being, iirc, the ambulance, and the tractor that never leaves the trash facility.
Deliveries, Garbage Pick up, etc are done with horse and cart, or bikes. E-Bikes are only allowed to people who have mobility related disability, and have to get a license.

the problem is a sedentary lifestyle along with sugary/caffeinated beverages has lead to people consuming less water.
People working outdoors don’t need to be constantly reminded to hydrate.
its office workers and surburbanites who consume anything but water that need the reminder.

because its an iconic symbol that is just as relevant today as it was then, because gamers never change. Every time its the same fucking pattern, game gets released, they buy it, they complain about everything about it, swear they’ll never buy another game from that company again, then when Shit game 2 comes out, they are dropping 400 dollars on premier legendary super tier dick enlargement +3 pre orders, only to start the pattern all over again.

of course they are. because gamers are myopic, idiotic little goblins that will yell and scream about every injustice…real or imagined, but will be right there to support the absolute worst aspects of gaming by preordering every ultra mega super deluxe edition.

I think a lot more people would be willing to swallow the cost of a nursing home, if the loved one was guaranteed proper care and respect.
And let me tell you, I’ve worked in a lot of nursing homes (not in a medical position), and it doesnt matter how high end the nursing home is, the treatment is the same across the board.
There are ways you can try to tip the system in your favor to increase the chances of getting better care for your loved one.
-
Visit Frequently. Every Day is best (but if you had that kind of free time you’d probably have your loved one at home instead of a facility). Residents who get frequent, regular visits tend to get better taken care of.
-
Try not to have a visitation pattern, To avoid staff taking care of your loved one in preparation for that day. If you do have a schedule to visit every saturday, then atleast a few times a month try to pop in on different day at random (and don’t make it a pattern)
-
If your loved one can not advocate for themselves, put a granny cam in the room. You can decide if you want an overt one or a hidden one. Preferably one you can log into from home/where ever and monitor live, though this may require some kind of subscription.
3a) If you’re loved one can advocate for themselves, make sure they feel safe and secure to tell you any mistreatment/bad things/unacceptable response times they may be suffering.
-
Be respectful to the staff until they prove otherwise. Sometimes sucking up, and little gifts, and just generally getting to know the staff involved in your loved one will get your loved one better treatment.
-
Do not hesitate to take issues up with the building administrator. The administrator is the highest authority in the building, and doubly do not hesitate to escalate things to your state oversight agency if the administrator fails to satisfy the issue.
4&5 TLDR) Be sweet and kind to staff, but don’t hesitate to be a roaring asshole when needed.
and I want to be clear, none of this will guarantee good/better treatment for your loved one. It just increases the chances of good/better treatment. Some people are just too lazy, cruel, and lack a single ounce of give-a-fuck to care. and some facilities try to cut costs by hiring only people that have all but been blackballed from other facilities, at low wages, because the choice for worker is either continue to use the education and experience they have or start over at even lower wage in a whole new job they know nothing about, which means they are typically at the end of their give-a-fuck. But sometimes you can have a facility run by absolute goddamn angels… and its too random to be able to predict.

Of course not.
We shouldnt dare do it in a way that hurts the poor company.
Perhaps we should solve it by making customers pay a fee for using self checkout! You know, those poor, downtrodden businesses really do need all the help they can get.
- Comment on They eliminated cashiers and keep the profits. NY Democrats are fighting back. 2 weeks ago:
Self checkout isnt a bad thing in and of itself.
If you only get one or two items, or something that you find personally embarassing, self checkout is fine.
Thet problem is there are no more cashiers, and I’m expected to take my monthly groceries through self checkout, which is a fucking chore. and I totally deserve at least 10% for the chore of dealing with it, as well with the added stress that a harmless fuckup might result in me being fucking tackled to the asphalt in the parking lot by some overzealous loss prevention/cop, and see me arrested for theft.

Cause theres juuust enough idiots out there to cry and scream about how its big mean and supes unfair to hold them accountable for anything, and that any punishments should totally be insigifnicant that doesnt impact them at all.
