- Comment on Some SQL queries to thanos snap communities 1 year ago:
somewhat, there's a "delete community" link on the community's page if you're a moderator or side admin
- Comment on Some SQL queries to thanos snap communities 1 year ago:
note that if the communities have any followers, it's preferable to use the API/UI to delete communities so that the deletion federates
- Comment on Feature Request: "Share" Feature To Get The Links Of External Posts 1 year ago:
good idea, tracking as https://todo.sr.ht/~vpzom/lotide/204
- Comment on What happens if I delete a community? 2 years ago:
currently pretty much nothing happens to them, they still exist just without a link to the community
- Comment on The Fediverse Has An r/Place via fedi.place 2 years ago:
if it's not federated then that seems hardly interesting
- Comment on The Fediverse's "Where The Heck Do I Go" Problem... 2 years ago:
Even if you don't require a login, you would still need to choose an instance, and at that point what benefit does an alternative frontend have over just going to the instance?
- Comment on Zorin & Fingerprint Log-on 2 years ago:
now that seems rather unhelpful
- Comment on We now have lotide federation 2 years ago:
Text posts should be working in the current version of Lemmy, but yes that used to be the case
- Comment on We now have lotide federation 2 years ago:
Looks like it's a similar issue to https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2106
lotide sends posts from communities as links, but Lemmy assumes they will be whole objects
Though even if that's fixed it might still not work, since Lemmy also assumes the announced object will be an activity rather than the object itself
- Comment on We now have lotide federation 2 years ago:
apparently, I need to look into why
- Comment on We now have lotide federation 2 years ago:
Here's a table of the current compatibility as far as I know: https://arewefriendsyet.lotide.org/lotide-lemmy.html
- Comment on Hey guys I'm gonna ban anyone using scripts against the site 2 years ago:
Well at the moment signups are disabled on all my instances so that's not a great recommendation currently
But even once that's sorted out I don't expect to ban test posts, @test@a.tide.tk would welcome everyone's nonsense as long as you're not trying to promote anything
- Comment on Our school just changed our Wi-Fi network to certificate login instead of password, should I be worried? 2 years ago:
I assume that just means WPA2 Enterprise? As long as you aren't using the certificates for anything but authenticating the WiFi network, I don't think that's any worse security-wise
- Comment on Which Shell are you using? 2 years ago:
The main one for me is the smart autocomplete. It uses the command history and manpages to try to guess what command I want to run, and it's often right.
(though the fact that you can't turn it off is frustrating)
- Comment on Which Shell are you using? 2 years ago:
fish
- Comment on Do you think the name metaverse is taken from the name fediverse? 2 years ago:
wikipedia credits the term to a book from 1992, which predates the fediverse as far as I know
- Comment on Thoughts on the "Fediverse Quadrant"? 2 years ago:
seems pretty close to my perception
- Comment on What's your opinion about Discord? 2 years ago:
Really? If discord isn't easy enough then I have no idea what would be
- Comment on What's your opinion about Discord? 2 years ago:
I've never used calls in matrix, but my understanding was that they do exist, just aren't well supported by non-Element clients
- Comment on What's your opinion about Discord? 2 years ago:
doesn't it?
- Comment on Does Lemmy have a way to counteract a mod taking down a whole community? 2 years ago:
GNU Social has proposed a mechanism for sharing a group between multiple instances: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/fep-8485-unbound-actor/2200
But as I understand it, it assumes such a group wouldn't have moderators at all
- Comment on How come Lotide mods don't sticky any posts in their communities? 2 years ago:
I mean it's possible but I'd rather do things the right way
(where "right" is mostly derived from consensus among other implementations where it exists, which it seems like it does in this case [though most don't allow pinning other users' posts so it still doesn't work])
- Comment on How come Lotide mods don't sticky any posts in their communities? 2 years ago:
I can't speak to other people's choices, but I imagine many communities don't really need sticky posts
Also worth noting that stickiness doesn't federate between lotide and lemmy because lemmy decided to do their own thing rather than match the established convention: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/1018
- Comment on Thoughts on r/antiwork drama and implications for Lemmy 2 years ago:
disabled that account from here
looks like deleting the comment didn't go through though
- Comment on Why does the navbar look like this? 2 years ago:
yeah there's not supposed to be an arrow there
what browser are you using?
- Comment on Can you make Ebbtide be the default FE on a Lotide instance? 2 years ago:
in theory one could, though officially we (lotide) only recommend a default frontend being one with paths that match the AP object IDs to ensure that links from other instances work smoothly. As far as I know, only hitide does that currently
- Comment on Feature Request: Lotide Login Support 2 years ago:
(lemmy still doesn't support lotide's text posts in the released version so I don't think this made it over there)
Regarding your point, though, it's not that simple. lotide's API is completely different, so supporting it would mean introducing an abstraction layer over different platforms, which is probably not something they're looking to do
- Comment on wHY IS THIS SIDE SO UGLY? 2 years ago:
there is css here, but it's intentionally minimal
that's not to say that I think the current state looks good, but visual design hasn't really been a priority
- Comment on Truth social to have heavy AI moderation to make it family friendly 2 years ago:
true, which is why I said "theoretically"
If your service hasn't been designed to be easily ported, then such a migration could take a while
- Comment on Truth social to have heavy AI moderation to make it family friendly 2 years ago:
The thing about hosting companies is that you can theoretically switch between them without a major impact to your users, which would significantly limit their control
