I don't want the word "test" spammed all over the place. If you want a instance to spam , spin up a docker environment or go spam the main Lemmy instance or another one from their instance list.
I've enabled email verification and if I have to temporarily enable invite only I will.
I always feel defeated when I need to moderate something, but it does eventually come up. Unsolicited commercial speech almost isn't even speech, which is why it can be posted by bots, shitting up wherever it ends up.
It's topic based social media. So topics must be enforced at minimum. Otherwise it's just a gobbled mess of words without meaning. Timeline social media is better for just straight posting anything you want without worry of censorship and perhaps peer to peer social networks is a better model for that than federation. Reddit has added post to self.
It's complicated to get right.
That's exactly how Votal died. They started banning people who were spamming, then they started banning people who they disagreed with and claimed they were spamming, then they banned everyone and shut down their site.
Banning spam and banning people you disagree with is entirely different. If I don't ban spam 9/10 post will be a post about how to increase your testosterone or make your dick bigger.
Wolfballs is a open source federated platform unlike votal. I expect and hope to help other's set up instances that federates with us.
If you don't like the policy of one instance you can hop on another one and the communities will still be there because they are shared.
I won't get everything perfect every time but I will try.
So far I have no way to make any money here this is just a hobby and because I hate reddit and their censorship.
Also if you want complete censorship resistance you should checkout scuttlebutt. https://scuttlebutt.nz/ It's based on peer to peer technology so there is no site admin.
That is gonna be the best you can get for a censorship free platform.

Well at the moment signups are disabled on all my instances so that's not a great recommendation currently
But even once that's sorted out I don't expect to ban test posts, @test@a.tide.tk would welcome everyone's nonsense as long as you're not trying to promote anything
