Do any other viable alternatives exist?
There is a fun science fiction novel that wrestles this question, what technological solutions exist, what are their risks, and what happens if some counties get radicalized by climate change and implement them anyway.

viable alternatives ? yes, serverly reducing emissions, something we have yet to do.
The minute you stop injecting say sulphur aerosol, the temp roars back and the scale of sulphur injection is enormous and about as expensive as running the oil and gas industry. We’re geo engineering the planet now with CO2e
Climate Change is the solution to all this, it will collapse civilisation.

I wonder how much the aerosol from wildfires contributes to cooling too. It was noticeably cooler when the smoke was hanging in the air this summer. When we run out of forests to burn, not only will we have lost all that CO2 storage, smoke wont be contributing to cooling during the hottest phases of summer.

Severely reducing emissions isn’t going to happen soon enough.
And even if we wen Net Zero today, it doesn’t solve the issue.
CO2 acts like a blanket, and keeps warming the earth, so if we went Net Zero today global warming would keep going for the next ~thousand? Years
