I think this is just a thing in Apple Stores. Apple pioneered the Find My technology. Every device has gps baked in and activation lock. Even if you steal it, you can’t use it. You’re also now carrying around a tracking device that law enforcement can use to find you.

However, try doing the same thing in New York or Seattle and see what happens…
Ok, so this isn’t really even a question at all.

I don’t think Apple wants me putting devices out in their stores, with or without security locks, since none of them would be Apple devices. And there’d be nothing for me to gain from the procedure, so even if I technically could, I would never want to.

Oh hell naw. Some fool is gonna dump it all in a duffel bag and ship it off to his plug to send to some country where they just jailbreak them.

It’s because demo units are registered per store.
On top of this, if I remember correctly iPhones 15 and newer have special versions of firmware which do not let you enter DFU mode to remove the demo mode.

Every time I see these type of videos, comments always be like: “America cant do it cuz the immigrants, democrats, and black people would steal it.” or something like “This is why a homogenous society is more harmonious.”
The actual reason nobody steal them is cuz its tracked…
Only idiots would steal it
Like wtf is this “Japan is a paradise” westerner simping?

They can both be true, for example look into the lost and found system in Japan. Japan culture is like what OP says, but yeah it’s fucked up in other ways, that has no bearing on whether they treat stealing differently.
