You think HMRC is conspiring with Uber with the goal of making less money for HMRC? And that after years of this, it’s never been leaked or alleged?
Dunno mate. Seems more likely to me that tax-dodging internationals are just experts in dodging tax.

I do. It’s the one conspiracy theory I subscribe to. 😅
It’s not uncommon for HMRC to make sweetheart deals with large multinationals. There was a massive select committee inquiry in the 2010s into this and I don’t believe anything has changed.
Counterpoint: HMRC will move quickly and swiftly to stop this loophole and fine Uber and similar companies without hesitation. Oh wait… No they won’t.

They’re charging vat on their fee, but leaving it to drivers to charge vat on their part, with most drivers being exempt.
The only way to prevent that is to class drivers as employees, which is probably a good idea but more complicated than tweaking vat rules.
