I think this is a bad idea for anonymity and freedom of speech reasons.

I’m not sure I’m catching your drift. What sort of verification? And how does verification (whatever type) “turn into propaganda”?

Solution in search of a problem in my opinion. I don’t see any problem. Lemmy’s perfectly fine the way it is right now. If there becomes some problem eventually, we can figure out how to solve it when it happens with a more clear understanding of what the problem actually is.

lemmy.ml has no verification and no freedom of speech. Who asked for verification anyway, and how?

You mean an admin would have to verify each post or comment before its made public? :)
Yeah I dont think many instance owners want to spend their days doing that. Also I dont think instance admins are some kind of golden human beings with the right opinions. Anyone can run an instance.
To me its simple. Censorship is almost always wrong, except to protect children from realizing early how bad people can be. Let them enjoy their childhood at least.

I beg you pardon? We admins have been chosen by gods! /s
I see other reasons for censorship, like blatant propaganda by authoritarian countries, like what Russia does all the time.

I think we recognize Russian propaganda but we dont recognize our own very easily… It all seems like we are perfectly rational in the west, but we are probably just blind to it.
