It also features a new addition: an AI Launch key.

    Sigh.

Alternatively, you can assign one of Logitech’s Smart Actions to the key to, say, ask Perplexity for an answer to your query in your browser. Or, you can just set it to be right CTRL.

Entirely reprogrammable though, as with most uses of “AI” it’s just a buzzword to sell to a few extra chumps.

But it still acts as a separate non standard key, does it? So yo9u need the Logitech software to assign a key. Does the software need to run in the background or does the keyboard saves it in the hardware?

The AI Launch key launches the AI out the window, right?

Gentle reminder that a wired keyboard is by far the most sustainable option.

So, do that. Unless you really need that keyboard to move freely.

That’s a really good point. It’s cool that a whole keyboard can be powered by indoor lights, but if it doesn’t improve your typing experience, what’s the point of it? Appropriate technology, right?

I mean, having to plug something in to charge is annoying, and requires you to have a changing cable close by, or be charging the device on a schedule. This eliminates that entirely. A keyboard that always has power sounds pretty nice. I only use a wireless keyboard when travelling, but imagine this with an Xbox controller, or wireless headphones. If you find either of those applications useful, you can at least understand the wireless keyboard application’s usefulness.

Yeah, I can see this being good for media center PCs, but would not be my everyday keyboard. Also if it requires specific software that is a no go

Logitech requires login and connection to their servers to carry out some configs. I’m a long time user, but won’t buy anymore

That’s a no from me. Too bad. I like the possibilities of solar-powered devices.

Looks like it’s carving out a piece of profits from more niche markets. The Soleil is dropping for pre order on October 10. But unlike Logitech, this one has FOSS firmware and is not made of plastic that degrades within three years.

But also probably 4x the price.

The K980 ditches them in favor of making you install Logi Options Plus to find out. Boo.

    Instant e-waste.

I think if I was going to get a new keyboard, i would want to go one of two routes. Either super customizable, or go super silly overpriced. Have you seen that flux keyboard? It looks bonkers but it’s like $500 - $600

I looked at it, thought “it looks fairly average, I wonder what’s unique about it”

I saw the price and my eyes went wide lol
