(Old issue I didnât deal with because sidetracked)
Hey I want to install Linux on an old outdated computer so I can use it, but a guide is asking me to verify the iso file and no matter the source I try the numbers donât match.
This really held up what should be a simple process but I donât want to install from a file that has potentially been altered.
What do pls?
I know mint offers this on their website, but thatâs more to make sure youâre not installing dodgy malware instead, say if you downloaded the image from a torrent or mirror instead of the actual site.
Itâs not necessary but recommended. You could always try to install since itâs on an old laptop you could wipe again if anything goes wrong.

Iâm going to double check. It looks like I went to linuxmint.com and chose Cinnamon.
And when the numbers didnât match I tried mirrors (which claimed to be from reputable sources like universities and looked legit) to do the sha hashing steps on those too.
Seems in March someone on linux.org was talking about bad isos, Iâmma read through and see if he or she found a solution.
Thatâs weird - Ive not had that issue but I have to say I am often a bit lazy and donât check. If itâs not lining up it suggests the download was corrupted. I guess you have tried the download more then once?
If you tell em which distro I would be happy to go through the steps and download and share what I did in case thereâs something you are doing wrong (not suggesting there is - I donât know how much of a computer person you are). But I am travelling so canât do it this week because I dont want to be downloading over mobile hotspot.
Thanks for the offer! Iâve managed to create bootable installations and install them before, but tended to skip this step. Itâs not a problem with directions either, I faithfully followed the verification guide which seems to work. The numbers just donât match.

Sounds like the best place to get it from. I worked at a chemist warehouse for like 2 months and thereâs a massive markup on fragrances. Itâs where they got some of their best margin
