Ham has natural sulfur in the meat and sulfites are often added to packaged deli meat as a preservative. That’d be my guess why.

Probably right. They figure yeah, I’m gonna go ahead and fart in this because it smells like sulfur anyway. The meat workers probably don’t get a lot of fart breaks, so they just fart in the sulfur packed meats.

For anyone that wants to why it smells like that upon first opening…it’s Modified Atmosphere Packaging. Depending on what’s being packed they push different gas mixtures into the package to make it last longer. Which is part of the reason the expiration dates are months out or 5 days after opening.
