I want more pure comedies for sure. Feels like comedies are dead. Too much tip toeing around and playing safe due to “cancel culture”

I saw a non-horror movie yesterday, and 3 out of the 4 previews were for horror movies, including one entire scene from one.
Studios are creatively bankrupt.

Horror can be done on a low budget which in turn makes the genre extremely profitable so movie studios just see “People want more horror” rather than making different movies on a low budget.

Comedies seem to bomb at the box office which is why we have seen fewer recently. Horror is the only pure “genre” that seems to have consistently good profits.

I find most of the numbers from this survey to be dubious, but this one is insane. I would love to know just how leading these questions were.

They do say they surveyed moviegoers. That’s a lot of self selection right there. I think movie theaters are a terrible value so I hardly ever go to theaters.

Here you can find movies that are priced around 1 hr of min wage at fairly decent theaters , so lots of ppl go to a theater for a big release. And i support 1/3 of the title , we kinda need more good comedies that arent slapstic humour but some good comedic social commentairy told trough humour and not another “dystopian vibes” action movie

Remember the results are global. In my country it’s good value. There’s a lot of competition because it’s not lucrative enough for monopolising franchises anymore.
Do I still go? No, not really. Great big-screen movies aren’t as frequent as they once were and it doesn’t cost much to get a good display and sound in a lounge room. It doesn’t help that the “experience” of going isn’t there anymore. Cinemas give off strip mall vibes,

Thank you for the reminder.

Most theaters nowadays have discount days. $7 Tuesdays in several cities I’ve visited this year.
