20.01.2025 - Boozy SOTN
- Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid knot
- Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium
- Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
- Lather: A&E - Peach & Cognac
- Post-Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Samhain AS toner
-> 1 pass on the head plus a bit cleanup. Quick and easy.
Today I was longing for something fruity so Peach & Cognac it is. It was the first A&E soap I ever got, so it’s still in the OG Kaizen base (meanwhile, they came out with K2, K2E and Ultima bases). I must say it smells delicious - like some kind of nice liquor would. Bonus point is that it also is very easy to load and lather up.
I thought Samhain might be a good companion due to the shared boozy notes, but overall it’s too overpowering. The peach however kinda smooths it out a bit, but it’s definitely not the season for it anymore. I guess Pomona would’ve been the better combo companion, but at least I tried.

Primidi 1 Pluviôse an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Lauréole
I used the kamisori shavette today – no slippage. The shave with the shavette is quicker, but less close. Also, this blade starts tugging, so I may get rid of it soon.
@gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social: I screwed up and responded to myself, rather than to you, but here are the photos. I don’t know if you see anything.
At this time I’m wondering whether putting the lower part of the kamisori blade into a (padded) vice might be able to straighten the thing back?
Anyways, have a good evening!

Unfortunately it’s not that simple. You have to overcome elasticity, which means that in needs to be bent back more than just straight, so that in plastically deforms in the exact precise way that makes it straight again after unloading. Predicting the right deformation (i.e., this exact problem) is a difficult computational dark art in deep drawing. Also, you only get a few chances, because plastic deformation leads to work hardening (it’s like you’re forging the steel locally where it deforms locally).
To illustrate the problem, you can bend a straight piece of hardened wire like a bicycle spoke and try to straighten it again. It’s almost impossible, because the exact location of your original bend has work-hardened and when you try to revert it, typically a part next to the original bend will bend instead.

Not looking good, I see 😩

Well, I never knew I wanted to understand why that happened, but apparently I did. Fascinating.

I forgot you already own a kamisori-style shavette in my recommendation yesterday. Oops.
Personally I feel like Feather AC blades are not really comparable to their DEs, at least for me. The ProGuard are the only usable ones, but they are harsh despite the guard comb. I feel way more at ease with KAI ACs, either the “Captain Pink mild” or the guarded “Protouch MG” are very nice and comfortable blades.

I also generally prefer the Kai’s, but I had this one in the shavette, so I’m using it 🤷
